Anyone else finding the game really hard?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 8:24 pm

As a ranger (archer with restoration), I'm finding certain monsters really tough (those slow, fireball-spamming dudes are insane, especially when you get two of them at once), but that's good! It forces me to kite and use consumables and line-of-sight, which is fun. I never expected a beth game to have this level of challenge, and I hope they never nerf the monsters.

Playing on expert.

Normal monsters/bandits are super-easy. Just a few shots with the bow (or a single one with stealth) and they are gone.

The problem is that I am so overpowered that I can not tell wether or not the dungeons is supposed to be too hard untill I get to the boss (either the boss is super easy or I have absolutely no chance no matter what I do).
I hate having to turn back when I have reached the boss... =(

On the contrary, I'd say that it's much easier than Oblivion until you get to about Level 9. The game gets harder as you go on, which at least makes more sense than it becoming easier.

No.. NO.. NOO.. No game is ever TOO hard. Turn down the difficulty level if it bothers you or take the time to learn what you are doing wrong. Stop trying to mislead developers into believe that the world must want a simpler game. I am playing at Master level and I am dying a lot and LOVING every minute of it. I am learning not to just run full on into a room. I am learning to see if I can find a high vantage point that allows me to see what I might be up against before.

I never understood why people want a game that they can simple play through without ever being challenged. You won't ever be good at games if you don't fail and learn from it.

For the most part I have no problems, but for me, tthe dragon fights are sometimes difficult. Fights are not that hard, when they have the decency to land every once in a while, but what is my melee character supposed to do, when they keep flying and shouting over me. I tried shooting them with bows, but it's really difficult to do them enough damage and make them land...

Combat can get quite challenging, but I usually find a way to smite my foes.
And if not, I'm not too proud to run and hide

There have been some difficult bits, one was the tomb with all the Draugr in and the necromancer who keeps summoning them, as a sneaky assassin type I found it quite difficult. Possibly about 10 re-loads before conquered it, other than that I've been having no troubles.

I kept getting insta-bigged by Sabre Cat's when trying to continue with some of the main story, so had to do a bunch of side quests.
That quest was such a pain in the ass. I lost Lydia once to a restless Draugr, started at the entrance to the tomb, lost her again after she accidentally started a fight with the guy that we were helping, and finally killed him on my last try.

I play on normal and Its a happy medium. I can destory bandits pretty easily, but magic casters give me a challenge, its also a good challenge on normal when you are fighting 3 or 4 people.

I'm getting my butt kicked on normal difficulty. I'm a level 10 imperial with a one handed weapon and shield. I've died at least 30 times so far.

I'm playing on Normal (Adept I guess it's called? Can't remember...). Anyway, the game poses a challenge at times. Some battles I'll have to use health potions mid-battle just to survive. Some battles I use all my potions and still have trouble surviving. That's when I break out the shouts, or the poisons, or other boost potions that I may have. I've had to reload a few times in certain spots that got very difficult. Frost trolls are obviously no joke either at lower level. But so far I've found that I can pretty much handle myself as long as I think out a strategy and use it properly.

Oh, I have come across an enemy during a quest that was completely impossible. I won't spoil it, but it's some sort of Dwemer made enemy. He's huge and shoots hot steam at you that literally kills you in about 2 seconds flat. It's an insta-kill attack that you cannot dodge. I played hell trying to kill this damn thing. Eventually I figured out to lure him into a doorway that he was too big to get through, and then stood at a safe distance on the other side and me and Lydia pelted him with arrows until he died. It was definitely satisfying seeing his big ass go down, and then looting him and finding a bunch of valuable loot. Made it all worthwhile. But without that doorway there, there was NO WAY I could have killed him. He was a monster.

To be honest, I've bit the dust more in Skyrim than Dark Souls.

Ironic.

I like a challenging game and i change the difficulty here and there but I'm at the hardest part of the game so far and using restoration spells and potions of healing in my hotkeys and using them like a champ.

I've only gone down twice. Once to a Draugr Overlord because, in true zombie movie fashion, I didn't notice that he had three other lackeys moving to attack me, and once when two snow saber cats teamed up on me before I could even pull out my weapons.

I'm level 5 now, and to me it's not too easy and not too hard, but a bit strangely balanced.
Most standard-enemies are too weak imo. Bandits, wolves, etc. are killed easily from the beginning.

But then sometimes some crazy beast appears and totally kills you in 2 seconds (something like a living wood, and another time there was some kind of a frost elementary). I mean it's cool to have stronger enemies from the beginning, but maybe not randomly in the woods (but rather somewhere, where you could find great loot). Also those enemies killed me faster than a dragon.

Totally agree with everything you just said there.

I was killed three times trying to best a Krosis before I finally succeeded. I was killed by spriggans twice. I was eaten by a dragon. I was smashed by a giant, on two occasions. I slipped and fell into a river, dying. I was brained by a bandit with a warhammer. I was set ablaze by a fire atronach, twice. I was lightning'd to death by necromancers, twice. I was mauled by a vampire. I was smashed by a mammoth. I was ripped to shreds by both a Krosis and a dragon at the same time.

I think I've made my point. There's a lot of danger in Skyrim, and you have to have caution.

I don't think its hard,
Just some creatures you come across are harder to kill and you end up dying,
Like when I went up the throat of the world and came across a frost troll which nearly killed me and there was a bear that killed me once,
But some enemy's are really easy to kill, I'm kind of surprised how easy dragons are to kill as well.
