It's not that hard. What level are you and what class?

Maybe that quest was geared for a higher level character? Come back to it later maybe. Not everything scales to you like in Oblivion.

Nope, not hard at all. Some enemies just require a different strategy, so it isn't like in Oblivion where you just can spam the same spells over and over. Note: I'm mainly a conjurer, using a bound sword, a Frost Atronach, an occasional zombie en some fire spells.

Then return to that cave when you are stronger, until then, pick something easier. That's how a good rpg is suppossed to work, not that Oblivion scaling everything to be the same difficulty crap.

Also, it helps if you manage your character well, and use useful perks for your playstyle.

Combat has seemed incredibly unbalanced so far. I barely do enough damage to kill any enemy without a minute long melee fight. The worst part is that there is no way to tell what enemies will be super powered and never die.

I honestly have been annoyed as hell that my character is so relatively weak in Skyrim. I am on Adept, with a focused dual-wield and bow-stealth character(now lvl 18), and I keep getting destroyed in melee. I feel like I have almost no defense, and my attacks barely seem effective.

I really don't get these people talking about the harder difficulties being better. From what I've heard, it gets more ridiculous just like Oblivion did with the difficulty raised.

I don't know.....I feel like I just have to work out how the gameplay works before I can really get into the combat gameplay. The gameplay is a lot different from Oblivion, too, so it makes it pretty weird.

Then again, the bugs, glitches, and graphics problem with textures still have to be overcome, let alone the myriad of problems that Bethesda have yet to address. From what I've read and heard, it probably would have been better if they polished the game for another 3-5 months....

If you're stuck somewhere, change tactics, don't forget to use your shouts, or just leave, level up, and return when you stand a greater chance.

I play on hard and it is nice and challenging.

I've been playing on the hardest difficulty, and i've found it challenging - but not impossible. Skyrim's difficulty harks back to morrowind, in that you can and will get wrecked if you aren't careful, or go somewhere too early on. Like people have said, if you're struggling, get out of there or try to be more tactical.

I've been playing a heavy armour, 2H sword and bow Dunmer. The amount of times i have had to run away to get a spare arrow in and recharge stamina is teetering on silly - But it's been hella fun.

I'm level 5 now, and to me it's not too easy and not too hard, but a bit strangely balanced.
Most standard-enemies are too weak imo. Bandits, wolves, etc. are killed easily from the beginning.

But then sometimes some crazy beast appears and totally kills you in 2 seconds (something like a living wood, and another time there was some kind of a frost elementary). I mean it's cool to have stronger enemies from the beginning, but maybe not randomly in the woods (but rather somewhere, where you could find great loot). Also those enemies killed me faster than a dragon.

I'd say more challenging also. You have to know when to run. :goodjob:

Playing as a sneak archer on the hardest difficulty and restarted because after I picked up the 40% extra damage to archery, I felt like things were dying a little too easy. I just want the game to last as long as possible and Im paranoid about ripping through the content too easy. Normal for me is way too easy.

There have been some difficult bits, one was the tomb with all the Draugr in and the necromancer who keeps summoning them, as a sneaky assassin type I found it quite difficult. Possibly about 10 re-loads before conquered it, other than that I've been having no troubles.

I kept getting insta-bigged by Sabre Cat's when trying to continue with some of the main story, so had to do a bunch of side quests.

Spoiler
I'm finding the Nettlebane quest a, well, bane. I should have realised what I was letting myself in for after a reloaded 4 times just trying to retrieve the thing from that weird-looking guy who shoots fireballs made seemingly out of the lava from Mount Doom, but then what happens when I cut the tree... I can't even run away without dying. This is brilliant! It's on my to-do list for when I'm super-powerful.

I have been 2 shotted on max difficulty, but I really dont mind that. Maybe Im used to it after playing rogue against hunters on world of warcraft in days gone by, it just feels normal. :)

Gaming tip: Giants are level 32 and Mammoths level 38, don't hit either at level 4. :banghead:

I'm playing on adept difficulty because I svck at video games in general and I died quite a few times already. Mostly when dealing with bigger groups of enemies or bosses. But that's what you can expect from a game, that some portions are harder than others. Just take your time and eventually you'll make it. Or just drop the quest for the time being. It's not like you have nothing else to do.

I'm in a pickle. playing on adept, most things are PAINFULLY easy to kill, like bandits, and draugr. so easy that I very much want to kick the difficulty up, but I can't because there are things like sabre tooth cats and trolls that kick my ass in 5 seconds.

I know it doesn't fit your playstyle, but a shield makes the difference between winning by a landslide, or dying by a landslide.I always keep a shield handy in case an enemy is too difficult to kill without it.

I play sword & shield with heavy armour, also archery when im far enough. Playing this on adept, and daaam some of the enemies with 2H's whoop my ass....makes me have to rethink my strategy, which i like :)
