Is anyone else giving their own little 'goodbye' to Oblivion

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:01 pm

Hi guys!

I've decided to spend some time reminiscing about Oblivion and what it meant to me over the years. I have a huge collections of screenshots spanning my character's career -- from the very first time she opened her eyes in the Imperial Dungeon, all the way through the Oblivion and Shivering Isles crisis to the end where she fought off a pair of dragons (via mod) that were threatening Cyrodiil... a certain foreboding of what is to come in Skyrim. Listening to music from the game as well as elsewhere that grabbed me over the last 5 and a half years while I flip through these screenies, I'm filled with happiness, sorrow, and nostalgia.

Does anyone else plan on reminiscing about their time in Oblivion during the next few hours? For me it's the perfect sendoff as me and my character leave the world of Oblivion behind us and move 200 years into the future and explore anew the lands of Skyrim with adventures untold and excitement unmatched!

Post your thoughts in this thread if you are... surely I can't be the only one. The last few years of my life have had quite a few ups and downs, and as crazy as it may sound, Oblivion was always there to cheer me up when things got rough.

Now, as I finally step out of the ashes of my own past and pull myself up by the bootstraps in my real life, Skyrim is here to help me open a brand new chapter, and perhaps the most exciting of eras. Exciting new job, exciting new life situation, and SKYRIM!

Yet still, I will never forget what Oblivion did for me. I owe her that much as a sendoff.

What say you?

Afterthoughts (edit)... Aye, from time to time I will surely return to the land of Cyrodiil and spend time with my character in these ages past... it will live with me always. I don't think we every truly say "goodbye" because these games are always there to greet us whenever we feel like experiencing the magic all over again. For the present time, however, we move forward to Skyrim and all she has to offer. I've left my character in a fitting place in Oblivion and when she is reincarnated in Skyrim it will be the perfect rebirth.

I believe I will watch this video last as the perfect sendoff... ((NOTE: Just in case you've never completed the Oblivion main quest, the video will be a SPOILER!))

Perfection. Truly. :)

Sadly, I started playing Bethesda games when fallout came out. However, I recently started to play oblivion and while its amazing I can't see myself finishing it because of Skyrim. Only if I knew sooner :sadvaultboy:

I have a main quest to finish still. Martin is waiting at The Temple of the Blades, ready to lead the Imperial Forces to draw an attack from Oblivion so that Gnarshlia the Argonian Werewolf Battle-Mage can retrieve the Super Sigil Stone in order to create a portal to Mankor Cammeron's Paradise and retrieve the Amulet of Kings. Even after that, Oblivion will still have plenty of life left in it for me to enjoy.

If I still had oblivion... I would. To remember Skyrim for the next TES game I am going to make a walkthrough (maybe with commentary) post it on youtube and relive all that I've went through and rewatch it lotsa times!

Been playing for the past two weeks for the first time in over two years. Finished everything (including Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles) and took my character to Cloud Ruler Temple. In Third Person, I made a save overlooking all of Cyrodiil. It's a fitting goodbye to my character, leaving him surrounded by his fellow Blades.

I started to play oblivion again this week (To clear up side-quests) and after seeing Skyrim gameplay, it didn't feel or play as good as it use to. I said my goodbye this morning. :(

I'm not saying no goodbye. I'm not uninstalling either. I mean I still play Daggerfall and Morrowind every now and then. Skyrim just adds to the TES universe, and it doesn't take away anything from me.

Yeah, I don't know that I'll ever say goodbye to Oblivion. I prefer to think of it as "so long for now". I spent a lot of time in good old Cyrodiil, and I've got a fondness for hearing those 4 actors doing all the voices. I kind of find it charming to go from Chorrol to Cheydinhal and have heard Jauffre in like 10 different people. It's kind of fun.

So yeah, I'll be leaving Oblivion for a while, but at some point, I'll want to go back. Still, I have been playing it a lot in anticipation for Skyrim.

For both morrowind and oblivion, I will always be able to go back into that fantastic world and have a lot of fun.

I will be playing Oblivion all night tonight until I pass out. Then all day tomorrow, giving Oblivion a well deserved farewell.

(Except for the four hour live stream!!!)

I still remember the countless hours I played that game with my friend. Each of us helping each other complete quest after quest. Those were good times.

There's no "goodbye", just a "see you later"

I didn't say goodbye to Morrowind when Oblivion came out, and I won't say goodbye to Oblivion. Each game offers something else that the other doesn't, and I have a strong suspicion that while I'll likely enjoy Skyrim more overall, Oblivion will still do things better than Skyrim that I'll have reason to go back to Oblivion.

this expect i STARTED with oblivion, then to fallout, THEN to morrowind/daggerfall, neither of which has more that 10 hours in (probably combined)

I have played Oblivion since release, and have never tired of it, but from what I have seen, Skyrim will be my home now.
I play on PC, and use the Vilja mod, and I am really not looking foward to the day I climb a mountain in Skyrim that overlooks Cyrodiil and realise "Thats where Vilja's bones are".

I actually dug out my original Xbox from storage and explored Morrowind a little with each of my characters. I revisited Oblivion with a new Argonian and stormed through the main quest line in about 20 hours over the past few weeks. This week I strolled around with my main character looking through all my artifacts I had collect in each of my homes. I'll say good bye for a while but I imagine I'll pick them up again just to see where Siv's roots started so many years ago. I've decided that my character in Skyrim will be a decadent of my character in Oblivion.

Why you dont copy the look of your oblivion character to skyrim and gave it the same name as in oblivion? :) So you dont stop playing oblivion indirectly, you are just walking to another landscape with better graphic :)

I've said my goodbyes. Took my character up near the border of Skyrim so I would know she was watching over my escapades there tomorrow, and called it quits. I've put 1500 hours in, but now I'm ready to move on. I'll come back. I promise.
