Anyone else going to not use dragon shouts?

I'm going to play the whole game without a a jump function. Spice it up a notch.

Okay, so I understand a lot of people (including myself) want to use dragon shouts because they are:

1. Unique (new to the Bethesda series)
2. Powerful (makes for an easier game)
3. Helps with Roleplaying (my assassin will love the time distortion shout)
4. Just outright fun in some cases

So we have many reasons why people WANT to use them.

I think the OP is trying to make a statement of,"I don't need specific magic to be awesome."

Which is AMAZING. I really think it is. It is the equivalent of saying,"I don't need to do the main quest to get awesome abilities because I can forge my own destiny by doing what I WANT TO DO." Which is ironically what Todd Howard LOVES to say when he is describing Skyrim.

So to the OP, kudos to you sir, play your non shout game as I already know you will, but understand that not many will comprehend your struggle, but that is what will truly make you a hero, side stepping a given advantage to craft your own destiny.

Kudos to you sir, kudos to you.

Quite the opposite for me,
I will eschew magic, and use shouts in it's place every at opportunity that presents itself.

Quite the opposite, really, OP. I plan on using them not only in-game, but IRL also.

This. :flamethrower:

Considering that would involve completely ignoring a major aspect of the story that is sure to be drilled into your head by countless characters . . . not so much. Only time I wouldn't use dragon shouts would be with a non main quest character.

I won't be using them. I had no interest in using magic in previous TES games, and that isn't going to change in Skyrim.

I'm also not a fan of hearing my character's voice in a game like this.

I don't know if you have played Oblivion or not, but that game was not based solely off of the main quest.

I am sure Skyrim will be no different. The catch phrase has always been,"Do what you want, be who you want."

Albeit I am sure NPCs will remind us,"Oh hey, remember those dragons? They can teach you new spells!" Some of use will choose to do what WE WANT TO DO.

So for some, much like the OP, we will be content with just doing whatever we feeled compelled to do, using what skills we DECIDED to learn along the way.

Yeah, I'm also only going to drive my Ferrari 5 MPH under the speed limit and order porterhouse steaks and throw away the fillets.

Seriously, are you really going to do that?!?

You're comparing real life to a game.

It is not the same thing.

I would LOVE steaks and a Ferrari in real life, but in a game, maybe I don't want to go around shouting things that decimate my enemies.

For my first playthrough, I just want to play a normal character like the other TES games, using my own skills to get what I want rather than the dragonborn abilities from word walls. What about you?

i don't think thats even possible as u will need some for quests... why would u even do that? blows my mind..

I plan on shouting "FUS ROH DAH" as I leave my last exam on Friday before picking up the game.

Not to use dragon shouts..
Like saying you won't use catapult in a Zelda game.Or a chorus on a Hip Hop song.

A basic and elemental part of the game.
Bahh,I will use dragon shouts.

No. Does "be whoever you want, do whatever you want" sound familiar?

Yes. It's called a marketing stunt.
We cannot be who we want. In fact we can only be Generic when we begins.
We most certainly cannot do whatever we want either.
It's just a marketing gimmick.

I'll use them like crazy. Why not make your character unique? Isn't a mage just a little more badass when they can slow down time or shoot giant fireballs out of their mouth? Isn't a warrior more awesome when they can yell at an enemy and knock them down?

Depends, if the game is hard and balanced around using them I will but from what I've seen they look more like dragon cheats than shouts and could make the game too easy. If that's the case I just won't use them or avoid getting them for as long as possible.

Is anyone else going to NOT use WASD to navigate and only use fast travel? :D

No I simply plan not to travel, why bother using any of the cool stuff that Bethesda put into their game when you can simply play as a mundane dirt farmer who does nothing but stay in Riverwood and cut logs!

Garrett the Assassin seemed to be dancing with the shadows as he crept undetected through the castle's great hall. As he came upon a regiment of archers headed his way, he jumped expertly onto a supporting beam above, and waited in the gloom. As the regiment marched below, he noticed a straggler that had fallen behind. With perfect timing, Garrett leaped down behind the lone soldier, making no more noise than a cat would, and lunged at his prey.
Garrett: FUS RO DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The sound of twenty bows twanging in unison echoed through the hall.
Garrett: Oh shi...

Well, from an rp perspective, it does seem strange that a thief can breathe fire and turn things to ice. I for one will only use shouts that conplement my other abilities. So mages can use any shout, thieves only illusion and stealthlike shouts and warriors combat shouts.

I've made a point about ignoring articles about gameplay features to do with Skyrim - just hoping "It'll be like Oblivion but better". As much as I have no idea what the dragonborn abilities are - I fully plan to embrace and use them as intended. :-)
