Anyone else hate the 12+ rating?

Post » Sat Jun 22, 2013 12:34 am

Idk what it is, I just cant get my head around this game being for 12 year olds and above. Lol Kind of aggravating.

Would have much rather preferred a 17+ rating. At least in the US.

Edit: They do dumb down games to meet ratings, and that's exactly what they'll do from my point of view. Nothing will be as graphic, or as intense as a 17+ game.

Less blood, less swearing, less dramatic emotion to meet the audience iQ, and a bunch of other things.

The rating is stated before the latest developer question btw.

Have they released what the ratings are for this game? Because, unless they released it today, they have never said what the rating for this game is or going to be. I think you are just complaining about nothing and it really isn't that big of a deal. Someone made a thread a few weeks ago about this exact same topic and I'll say here what I said there: ratings don't make a game, period. ESO could be rated E for everyone and still be the best damn game in the world. People who complain about ratings for games just don't seem to understand that it doesn't automatically make the game any better.

Edit: Morrowind originally was rated T but later on it had it's rating changed to M. Did that make the game any better? No it didn't. Even if Morrowinds rating was never changed and stayed as a T rated game would you be complaining here saying it wasn't as good as Oblivion or Skyrim because its maturity rating was lower?

I couldnt care honestly.. I personally like alot this game has that old-school fantasy vibe. ES was born in 90s, and this game definitely has that flash from the back thing.

It's not rated yet..the bottom of this page even says "rating pending"

It obviously isn't for people under teenage years..so it's probably a placeholder

If you actually read underneath it it says the game is "provisionally rated PEGI 12." So that means it's not official at all.

There we go I just debunked this whole thread and it can be closed now.

Edit: Damn you bluesnacks I wanted to do that!

The provisional 12+ rating is from PEGI, which operates in Europe and not in the US.

Also, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was rated 12+ too and is by many on this forum seen as the best TES game.

No, Oblivion was originally rated T but had it changed to M shortly after it's release, not Morrowind.

Ok thanks for correcting me there I couldn't remember which one it was. Either way my argument still stands, the game didn't become any better when it was rerated as M.

Same here. Rating really means nothing to me; if it's a good game, it's a good game. Rating has nothing to do with it.

To be fair, the reasoning behind the rating change was a joke, and nothing even remotely gameplay related.

That's not the point, your argument is irrelevant for the rating

And how is my argument irrelevant? How does having a higher maturity rating game make it any better? Would Oblivion be considered a lesser game if it stayed with it's original T rating? Uh...no it wouldn't because the game was still good.

So yes please tell me why my point is irrelevant.

technically the M rating wasnt gameplay related, so yes, your argument here is actually kind of irrelevant. The game WAS made to have a "T" rating. And the only reason I specifically prefer "M" rated is for cool killing animations or blood/gore etc. I like things to be violent, and oblivon made you smack things and it was like slicing mannequins.

Game was made with a T rating..user made nvde mods made it an M game..it was the same exact game for most people T or M..the rating did not matter, it was the same game.

Nope it still isn't irrelevant because I'm not talking about just the gameplay I'm talking about the game as a whole. It doesn't matter if a game is rated E T or M it can still be the best game ever. Just because you prefer a game to be rated M doesn't mean that any game that isn't rated M suddenly is bad. Cool you didn't like the combat of Oblivion still didn't make the game as a whole terrible now did it?

I highlky doubt that user-made content was the reason, since it's not official DLC or anythting like that.

Thought it was the Lucian being all jacked up at the end of the DB questline and hanging naked and [censored]. Think we had this thread once before like a few months ago.

Either way the change in rating neither hurt nor helped Oblivion. It was a good game because Bethesda created a good game. Bethesda could probably create an E rated game and still sell millions of copies because they created a great game.
