Anyone else lose a pet recently?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 4:18 pm

Last two pets I lost where my female Rottie/Weiner Dog mix (not to sure how that worked out) Maxi who died from old age, and my female Pug Keiko who we had to put down due to being ate up with cancer. I hated losing my pug cause you miss that woof and snorting that they do.
:( I have a Boston Terrier that i love so much. i don't know what i'd do if i lost him :(

I have male Rottie/Blue Healer mix named Loki---he's one of those dogs that will devastate you if or when he passes away. This dog is just plain awesome! The stuff he does and allows you couldn't do with another dog. I will be up most destroyed if or when he passes away, like I said he's just a wonderful dog  .

I can't even read this thread. I'm such a softy I'll start crying just from hearing about other people's losses. I dread the day by baby kitty has to go, and she's almost 7 now. I love that cat more than I ever could have understood.

My mom's cat died a year or two ago, and she was only five. I put a little tribute to her on Youtube. I was surprised at how difficult it was (she was my cat for a few years before I moved out). Circle of life and all.

I feel the same way about my collie. He's such a sweetheart, and so smart. Man, you almost managed to get me a bit teary-eyed. Get ye gone, emotions!

I had a border collie / queensland heeler when I was five. Smartest dog ever and I loved her until she got hit by a school bus. That was a terrible day for me.

But now we have our australian shepherd who's the greatest dog and my buddy. He's 12 now, I'm not sure what I'll do when he eventually passes away.

I lost my first dog when I was young, shot by a drunkard. Second dog we had was too hyper for our small yard, he needed open space and lots of exercise on the account of being a sheep dog. We were told the person he was going to would take good care of him, but he didn't even last a few months. My third and currently alive dog is the longest one I've had for four years. A black and white Shih-Tzu. He's had a few close calls with a particular dog out here attacking him. One more attack and I'm going to have to complain and put the other dog down. Each attack is getting a little more viscous in its attempt to kill my dog. Even after me and my uncle have kicked it (once each and one in the nuts) it's still coming back. One night I even caught this damn dog slinking around me looking at me with a hunger in his eyes like he would like nothing more than to see me dead. It would svck if this damn dog actually succeeds and gets my dog.

A few years back we lent our Shih Tzu to someone who was going to mate him. The dog, being a rural dog running around all day, had never been in an urban/suburban area and was hit by a truck. The lady who hit him put him down and then we get the call and we go bury him on a mountain.
Also I have an 8 year old Shih Tzu Poodle mix and she's only got a few more years in her.

I haven't had a pet die, but I have had to get rid of a lot of them.
6 cats, one parakeet, a hamster, and two dogs. Not all at once though.

The dogs, Blackie and Fuzzbutt, I had to get rid of when I was younger and we moved back to Nebraska.
The hamster, Nibblet, when I moved again and couldn't take it with me.
The first cat, Tessa, I had to get rid of because my mom went to rehab and no one could take care of her.
The second, Toby (weird cat name), ran away because my psychotic cousin (also named Toby) would kick it whenever he got the chance. I hate him, what kind advlt does that? Atleast he got jailed for beating a man so bad that he now has permanent mental disabilities. (obviously not fortunate for the poor tattoo artist who he assaulted)
The next three, Precious/Gracie/Wayne, I had to leave with my mom when I moved to Alaska.
The parakeet, Kozmo, because the old lady below us had a fit because he had a panic attack at night ONCE. Seriously, once.

The last cat, Icarus (lovingly referred to as Icky), we got last year. He was my favorite, Completely white, bright gray(almost white) eyes, short haired, super calm and loving. Being born deaf probably has something to do with the calmness though. My sister went to college in Missouri and took him with her though.

And now I have a guinea pig and a fish tank.
I really really really want another kitty, but my current apartment doesn't allow uncaged pets

Its weird that I like cats so much, being that I'm allergic to them and have to take meds to keep my head from bursting into flames in their presence.

Our gorgeous huntaway/bull mastiff cross dog was put to sleep last Monday. She was ten years old, and we'd had her since she was a puppy. We had to put her down because she had a cancer that ran all up her upper leg, and she was in so much pain that the vet was surprised she could actually still walk. She stayed tough and happy up until the last four days of her life, but when she started really going downhill it was just so heartbreaking to see her in so much pain and so unhappy. I still can't really believe she's gone :(

A couple weeks ago our Chocolate lab which we've had since she was a puppy [about a year ago] that a good friend found for us and who was our guard dog was stolen or ran away. and we came home this morning and my mom's cat was dead in the boat :/ she's really broken up about it. anyone else lose a pet recently?
I'm sorry for your losses. :(

Most recent for me was my dwarf hamster...she was just a tiny rodent but she had so much personality. I'm surprised I became so attached to her. And 1.5 years ago, Baby, the last cat out of the last "group" of kitties I had, died (old age, almost 20). I've owned a lot of cats in my lifetime...and there's so often a few special ones that you really remember/hit you extra hard. I still sniffle when I think of my cat Misty.

I lost my pet rabbit about 7 years ago, that was the most recent pet I've lost, strangely though I don't remember ever being upset about it even though I loved the crazy fur ball.
It will be a sad day when my dog goes :( But until then we shall fight, bark/shout and chase things to our hearts content!

Put down our seventeen-year-old cat a few months ago. We had him since the day he was born, and we were friends ever since I was five. That was the toughest week (and then day) of my life. I don't normally cry, but I did at least twice a day during that awful wait for the vet visit. I'm past it now, of course, though I'll occasionally think I see him lying on the couch and remember he isn't here anymore, he's underground in our back yard. ... :(

Nevermind me, I'm just incredibly astonished that the most compassion and caring I've ever felt for anything in my entire life has only truly come through for something as ultimately meaningless as a pet. If only the world consisted of cats and nothing else, maybe I wouldn't be such an angsty, stupid [censored].

Edit: Ugh, I need to stop posting for a while. Depression's rearing its ugly head again..

Nearly 3 years ago now a mother cat and her two month-ish old kittens showed up in our driveway and we took them in. 'In' being we take care of them, because my dad is allergic and we can't have them inside (at least not while he's home  ). We nearly lost the mother to illness in the summer when she got sick, wouldn't eat or drink, and disappeared for a week. She came back starved, severely dehydrated, and still unable to eat or drink anything. An emergency trip to the vet saved her.

Then she took off and never came back the following spring. That was two years ago. We figure she was probably hit by a car. Her kittens are still around though.

My pet pony died.

Last year around this time my dog died, golden lab. Devastated and I still well up a bit when I think about him. Even more so when we found out he was in pain for months with stomach cancer and twisted bowels.

My pony killed itself from binge eating, every day. He was a morbidly obese pink pony.
