Anyone else realize that Skyrim is just a game?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:49 pm

What is life beyond an amalgamation of experiences? Some experiences hold more weight in our lives than our others and how many of said experiences can one remove from one's life and still be able to truly call life life? Base existence, perhaps, and therefore the bare necessity for what constitutes as life, which is simply being technically alive, can go without these experiences, but a true life that one finds satisfactory should be filled with experiences... many of which should be happy experiences. Without these things, why bother living? Technically, no, Skyrim does not, nor does any game or anticipated event/object, have any bearing on your ability to technically live, but such things are a crucial part of our individual, distinct selves and Skyrim may be, for many of us here on the forums, a great milestone and extremely positive experience. Taking away everything but food, water, oxygen, and shelter won't kill you and therefore are "just ", but what kind of life would that be? Is Skyrim technically just a game? Sure, yet the high amount of anticipation built for it clearly shows its importance to people. So what?

What is this game thing you speak of? Have I not more things to worry about than games? Civil war breaks out amongst the land, the King has been slain, dragons return to threaten our very existance....and yet you speak of games and children's things? Be gone, fool!!!

Anyone else realize that Skyrim is just a game and it's not the most important thing? Ive waited for 3 years for this..cant wait. But it is just a game..

Just a game? JUST A GAME? You, my friend, are no true fan then. It's the meaning of life! No.. but still, it's gonna be awesome and I will honestly delve deep inside this world for many upcoming hours, days, weeks. ^^

Title.
I'm ultra excited for Skyrim, I cannot wait. But it's not my life. Reading these boards..some of you people honestly scare me.

This is just a game, it's not life. I'd be bummed if I couldn't play, but I'd move on.

Thanks for the education, Master Chief. That inspiring recitation should get you a promotion. May I suggest carrying a sign at your local OWS protest pointing out that Skyrim is just a game and that you should not have to pay for yours because you, unlike so many here, realized that it is just a game. You might get a video on youtube and go viral. Think of all the scary people you could help by pointing out something that is patently obvious to anyone over the age of 4. They might get a whole new perspective; they might get a job. Or they might think you're an annoying concern troll. Either way, it's a huge win. Well, I'm off to incinirate myself in a viking long boat..nothing scary about that.

when im at work i think and do work things, when im with my wife i think and do wife things, and when im on these boards late at night i get into crazy skyrim mode.

how dare you judge my enthusiasm by thinking you know anything about the rest of my life and the amount of effort i put into any respect of it, and the rest of these people for that matter.

what if some kid just got done with his homework is tired of thinking about crap for the day and just wants to get on here and act a fool for a bit, more power to him.

Ambiguity of the internet gives people a false sense of security. That and the fact that big notion around the world is "Don't take everything on the internet seriously". You shouldn't assume anything about anybody until you have more than some posts that may be trying to stir something up and yanking your chain. If these people were truly psychopaths, there would be a lot more indicators than just the internet to solidify this claim.

Yes, its just a game. But there is such a strong following and passion behind it. For a lot of people its a very important game. We create back stories and role play. It's not our lives. In fact its far from it. After coming home from work and spending time with family and friends its nice to play an amazing game that can transport us to a universe that truly makes us forget about the ins and outs of daily life. :tes:

I'm not sure if I speak for all of the dedicated fans out there, but for me, that is what this game does.

So I understand that you might not feel this way. But don't be a stick in the mud and try to bring the people who have a passion for this down.

whens these maroons start sniping off roofs the news doesnt say >
"we didnt see all the indicators of lunacy"

they always say >
"they seemed like such a quiet person, then they snapped"

that the mentality of today, while you are "solidifying" your claims, people are going bat [censored] for a game ?

maybe its time to stamp on game developers, before we produce a generation of kids with severe disorders ;)

I've actually lost my enthusiasm for Skyrim as time progressed. It's not that I'm not excited, it looks better and better each day, but I have a lot of stuff on my plate now with school, friends, and cross country, and while I can't wait, I know that I will have to balance it witht he rest of my life.

now thats a healthy balanced attitude to gaming.

no froth or spitle or glazed expression,he/she likes gaming but doesnt let it affect real life responsibilities.

sharp contrast to the mania games cause the weak minded and vulnerable .

game devs are so fixated on the profits they are blindly ignoring the effect they are having on people in a certain bracket.
but like tobacco and prescription meds, there will come a day when people will be in a court room with class action clams.

you know your right, its not my life, because if it was my life I certainly as hell wouldn't be looking forward to playing it. People often need a way to get away from reality, tes is to us as crack is to a drug addict.

Ouch, ya'll are bashing this guy good. I don't think it required a thread... but he's right. Some of you dorks are going waaaay oerboard... But this is nothing new! Look how people turn out for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Comic Con? Stuff like that... NERDS!!!!!! It's what Nerds do. I'm a Nerd, We're all Nerds. And this is where Nerds go!!! This is their territory!!! I've been getting a laugh out of it. But ya'll have svcked me in. I'm [censored] obsessed with this game since i've gotten on the forum. A couple of weeks ago, i could have cared less. I pre-ordered, and went back to bangin my girlfriend and hunting at the deer lease. Then I bought this new Iaptop so I can play it at the deer lease... that's when I knew it was over. I may as well join ya'll.

Here's to bein' a Nerd! It's not just a game! It's [censored]in' Skyrim!

No one has scared me. I realize that hyperbole is frequent on these boards. I am excited, but dOnt let it interfere with rest of life.

My wife knows that I have not been this excited since F:Nv. My kids know I am pumped. It is fun to be really a big fan.

It is not just a game. It is a game, but Not just a game. It has a community of fans and modders who love RPGs. Angry birds is "just a game."

I bet very few people actually let their fan love for skyrim become fanatical.
Is it as imPortant as my grad school work? Nope but sure is more fun!
