Anyone else think conjuration is boring?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:32 am

Well after my mage, im almost considering never using conjuration again...eventually its just summon dual dremora lord, then everythings dead in 10 seconds...I just get bored of it because after all how is it fun letting AI fight for you? Anyone else agree?

I have never used conjuration (well, magic really) in any TES game i played mainly because i thought it looked boring. I will try to be a pure mage for once in a future playthrough.
I hope it's not boring (fingers crossed!)

Well, I don't know yet and will likely not know for a long time, but I have started a battlemage with conjuration as one of the major skills. I do not intent to take many perks outside dual casting and cost-reduction and I fond it pretty fun so far. Maybe what you need is a similar usage of the skill to have some more fun?

Conjures are lackluster that's for sure. More control over your pets would be a huge step in the right direction. Further, Charming opponents and taking control of them is incredibly entertaining as well. The Enchanter and Bard classes in EQ1 were amazingly fun because of this.

Well...kinda, yeah.

I had never played a conjurer until Skyrim. By the time my Breton summoner leveled into the 30s, I admit, it began to get a little stale. Now whether that was because I was getting tired of just sitting back and watching my Dremora Lord cream everything, or simply because I had spent 150 hours in Skyrim, without playing any other game in the interim, is up for debate.

Anyhow, I created a new character--a melee warrior. And playing a summoner definitely seems a bit like "easy mode" in comparison.

I'm playing a conjuration build right now and I like it okay, but I'm limiting myself to only reanimated corpses. More control over your "pets" is a mechanic the game really needs. I think I'm going to shelf the character until a hotkey extender is released because 8 hotkeys is about 1/3 of what I require.

raises hand........

i miss using clannfers and daedroths. the frost atronach svcks indoors as well in skyrim.

@sixgunsam. i think i saw a hotkey extender on skyrim nexus. i believe it required script dragon but thats pretty easy to install as well. i have it downloaded i just havent read the readme or installed it yet. i agree that playing necromancer is fun but the atronachs are far more useful and powerful....at least til you get the dead thral in which case you can equip a high level mobs body with really good gear and he just tears through everything.

It's a fun spell to use once in a while during tough battles, but yes, it does make the game bong if you use it all the time

Everquest 1

That game had great concept of class structure. Every class felt unique. Granted TES is now just custom classes, but no matter what I pick I do not feel very unique the way character progression and building works.

I'm guessing EverQuest.

Necromancy is always fun. But i agree, summoning gets boring after a while. I only use it in the beginning when my mage is too weak to take on many opponents.

I can duel conjure and I also have a mage companion. So it's a case of knowing when to use it. If your about to get taken on by a heavily armed mod then getting some back up from a couple of conjures will help you out. So it's just another case of if you want to abuse it then you can but it's not necessary if you want to still give yourself a challenge and fight on your own or with just your companion backing you up..

I might be part of the minority but I LOVE conjuration. I can finally dump my heavy weapons and summon weapons like swords/bows/etc.

Conjuration PLUS destruction magic = Awesome.

I am only level 31 with 84 conjuration, but I find it very entertaining. Mixed with illusion even more so.

If I can win a fight without ever swinging a weapon I will. Set groups upon themselves. Fear. Calm. Reanimate. Summon. It's all good.

If you don't enjoy it then don't do it. I find button mashing to swing the same weapon over and over again at something until it falls to be mind numbingly dull.

To each their own.

my second mage character was exactly like that. i had conjuration illusion and lightarmor and archer as my only major skills.......aside form enchanting and smithing which always get levelled up for me in every game because im a loot hoarder. i agree that its a blast playing that way and on top of using illusion and conjration spells i would dual wield staves and i had some epic battles. i just wish that i had my scamps, clannfers and cuddly daedroths back though. thankfully mods will fix that soon enough.

No, I love conjuration; it's one of my favorite things to do. I did a mage for my first character and am not too thrilled with it in Skyrim so I stopped playing that character and am now playing a sneaky archer (which I love), but I still manage to carry a couple of staves that conjure a summons so I can still do it. What I value about them the most is their distraction value in combat. I like to play ranged characters in TES, and usually pretty wimpy characters, so distractions are of great value to me.

@bigglesworth - I miss my skeletons! And the scamps.

Conjuration was my primary skill on my first play-through, and things got awfully easy after a while. Dual summons + Brelyna and her summons + Meeko made it look like I was playing an MMO. We were like a stampede mowing down Draugrs in narrrow crypt corridors.

Enemy AI is smart enough to run away when I shoot it from somewhere they cant get me, but if I keep chucking summons down there then the enemy just hands over all his health points for free. And since the Player Character is the Amazing Spiderman compared to everything else in the game, it was easy to perch and spawn just about anywhere. The rest of the time I just ran in circles around summoned stuff until I lost aggro.

Loving conjuration, got it up to 100 and use it pretty much every battle. I love watching my follower/summons smash things to bit while I cast supportive spells

My character does use a bow (much more sparingly in the past 10 levels in lieu of staves).

I wear only robes and boots. Unfortunately the dragon priest masks are light armor (I still use them).

Heh, I'm a bit if a hoarder too. So often limping along to the nearest town, overweight. Trying to find animals to kill, load with loot and reanimate.

I am all for more options to support differing play styles. I do like how they require a corpse for necromancy. I don't like different spells needed for different levels though.

I don't get why people somehow think ONE branch of magic is supposed to be viable all on it's own (as in using ONLY spells from that school), it was never intended to be that way.
