Anyone elses curious about the Sphere from the original?

Post » Wed Aug 11, 2010 10:40 am

I was a huge fan of Crysis from day one.
I build a PC just so I could play it, plus I just needed an upgrade anyways... :-P
-Does anyone else who played the original Crysis feel short-changed when Crytek basically said "forget Nomad, Prophet, Psyco, the sphere, and the island. We want a new game so everyone can join in from PC and the consoles."....?
Crytek had a great thing going for them, I couldn't wait to see what happened next, Crysis ended on such a dramatic note that the next Crysis should have been nothing less than Epic,... but now everything has changed, for better or worse..
What do you guys think?

Multiplayer is completely destroyed, suit modules feel like perks, classes feel like MW2. THEY EVEN HAVE THE GAME WINNING KILLCAM. It'd be nice if they kept to their idea instead of destroying it for a MW2 with nanosuits (you don't even feel like you have one because you die so fast :s)

I was in on the "pre-alpha" testing, and as far as I can tell Crysis2 mp is just a visually different ModernWarfare 2. Perks, kill cams, weapon classes, even reward streaks like UAV and flying gun ships,.... it's all too familiar, and Crytek is doing it on purpose to try to sell the game.... and I agree, having a NanoSuit doesn't seem to change anything, in fact it's pretty useless

THEY EVEN HAVE THE GAME WINNING KILLCAM.
Not that i've seen. Where have you seen that?

There's one extremely important factor that completely changes MP gameplay which still remains and is even further improved in Crysis2 - The Nanosuit. :)

As for the Sphere from C1, i'm eagerly awaiting Richard Morgan's comic book tie-in for the events between C1 and C2, plus there will also be tie-in story revealed in C2 :)

To be honest, the nanosuit doesn't make much of a difference especially how it is now.

Sorry have you played the game? Yes it does change the gameplay drastically, I don't see much of a connection to cod, it feels like it's own game.

Can you shed some more light on this? When can it be suspected, how will it be made available, etc.

Shinanigans, please don't say Nanosuit2 is improved when it clearly isn't,...
-There's no speed/strength mode
-running always consumes energy and isn't nearly as fast as the original run or speed up weapon reload(rather than just choosing speed mode)
-you can only use your "strength" to jump high(rather than jump high, and move/throw large objects, eliminate weapon recoil... etc)
-when you're hit in cloak mode you uncloak and your energy is completely drained(as opposed to just loosing health but remain cloaked)
-armor mode consumes energy without being shot, and blocks the edges of the screen with some silly nanosuit design(instead of recharging your energy when you're not being hit)
-you can also die in armor mode even when your suit still has energy(ass opposed to dying after you energy and health are completely drained)
-you can't go prone
-It's bad enough Nanosuit1 is vastly superior to Nanosuit2 and won't be seen in Crysis2, but don't try to sell us on Nanosuit2 being an "improvement"

A comic book!? Oh come on, I wanna play that part, not read it!

I want to be Nomad one more time, see how much it got worse on the island after the General nuked it.

If Crytek intends on jumping the gun on DLC, at least make a DLC off of it...

I completely agree! I'll miss the island, the sphere, flying exosuites, Nomad/Prophet/Psyco.....
Crytek is just copying COD for the muliplayer and throwing something together in NY to make it seem epic because they think it'll sell,.... shame, Crysis1 was one of the best games ever. :-/

I'm quite sure it was an Admiral that nuked the island, but I'm really interested in the events after then returned to the island, how Prophet survived the nuke, aliens, sphere, etc. I hope it'll be more than just a comic.

I just hope you don't die as fast as you do in MW2. Come on!!!! We're talking about super soldiers here! They aren't wearing clothes, they're wearing nanosuits! At least let us feel that it's really nanosuit and not nano-suit.

believe it or not, MW2 MP is still going VERY strong, despite all of the game-killing weapons and killstreaks.

I know it is hard to believe, but MW2 MP is amazingly popular and has been for quite some time now, and it is actualy fun to play some times.

just how much of Crysis 2 have you guys played so far? you say its just like MW2, but have you actualy played the pre-alpha MP? the nanosuit can make a major difference if used correctly, and the gameplay is not camper-friendly. killstreaks are almost not even there, and they do very little to the game.

in the end, even if Crysis 2 was like MW2 for the MP, how much of a bad thing would that be?

dont hate just because you can dude, give it a chance (after the final version of the game is released)

Not many of us have played the alpha test. :(

Crysis 2 being like Modern Warfare 2 is a very bad thing in my eyes. I am fine with taking their ideas and refining them, but some of the ideas like 5 custom classes is just outright theft. Crysis had tons of potential and that potential seems to be wasted in favor of a Modern Warfare 2 gameplay feeling.

Crysis has lost vehicle and air combat, 16on16 gameplay, and two Nanosuit modes, leaning and prone is gone...

So many features that made Crysis have so much potential has been removed in favor of moving towards an easy selling Modern Warfare 2 shooter.

5 classes is kinda pushing it, that is rather blatent, and I doubt they will change it because the limited edition trailer wrote it in stone. but its not like its a bad idea at all anyway. once again, MW2 is a very popular game, hard to go wrong with it, but I must agree that a whole company that did the TimeSplitters series could do better, but this is what they chose (so far) so Ill leave it up to them to make the descisions.

vehicles in Crysis were overpowered, everyone would just get in a tank or air vehicle and raqe everyone, and it was very hard to shoot it down with no lock-on. so there really no problem there.

the player cap really makes no difference because the code was editable to change the number of players anyway, and Crytek will prolly make Crysis 2 highly moddable.

besides, the cap has been tested and it seems to work the best, Ill trust them with it. leaning will be in the SP of C2, and no one would use it in MP anyway, best to keep it simple (although I dont remember anyone saying it wasnt in the PC version)

prone... ehh well that gives you dropshotting, and for whatever reason Crytek UK took it out, well w/e. personaly I think the Black Ops diving will be game-breaking, its a terrible idea and Treyarc will be stuck with it.

easy selling? would you rather the game sell bad?

Quite happy to move to NY,
save a few NY asses, blow some stuff up, use the suit to its fullest adavantage, dont see any probs with that,

Hell wats up, you get a suit, you get weps, you get location, thats a game by Crytek, how well you play it and how succesfull you are is up to you , simple.

Guna miss the island and the chickens too, but hey, i can surely find something in NY to throw around lmao

If we dont judge until the beta, then nothing gameplay wise will be fixed.

You're absolutely right! Crysis wasn't a game to make exceptions and settle for anything less than the best. If Treyark want's to mess up a silly game like Black Ops that's their choice, but Crysis was(is?) better than that.... Hopefully Crytek will see their displeased fans and make some radical changes back to how it used to be.
Dear Crytek/EA,
Have you ever hear the phrase "If it aint broke, don't fix it!"?

I'm glad the sphere is gone, or else we'd only be shooting frozen Koreans and those boring old aliens in a giant nuke crater. With the Nanosuit 1.
A comic book is excellent because there's no gameplay, and it can portray the story better. :)

Besides, now we can pick up and throw skyscraqers in a destroyed 2013 NYC.
