Or fear of whales or bones? Or specifically whale bones?

fear of heights or bridges?

:D Heights. I have lept off 1000ft cliffs in RL, but there's no way I could ever say I enjoy it. Like a lot of stuff in the creepy places thread, it's the implications. The Whalebone Bridge and the implication of falling forever makes me want to get across it asap, and not look down. :P

Genuinely wanting to avoid the spiders in the game, and having to find strategies to achieve that adds a wonderful level of immersion. I think you're lucky, OP. Enjoy. :P

You may be afraid of spiders, what you can conjure is not.

I dont like spiders IRL either, they creep me out in game too, but they dont live long enough to cause me any issues. Quite a few NPC's in Skyrim dislike them aswell, your not alone.

I guess apart from some random spiders out in the wilderness, you can always tell if there are spiders ahead due to their webs.

I've had a bit of phobia regarding bees since I was very young, I have been continuously stung by wasps. I've always been afraid of them since of their personality (bite for no reason). My phobia is neither deeply rooted or extreme but I can tell you that eventually I decided to use either wasp killer or an aerosol spray to weaken them if they do come across my property. I then avoid their twittering body and try to go throughout the day. In Fallout New Vegas there are not only giant bees, but those creepy wasp-like mutations that poison you (don't remember the name) its probably just my personality, but instead of fear when I come across these things I feel more annoyed than anything else, and their death satisfies me. Remember that it is a game and if they try attack you, 99% of the time you can run past them if your fears are truly that deeply rooted. Then again there is always the use of "~ kill".

I too, have a phobia of bees.

Mine is centered around when I was quite young (5 or 6) I happened to step in a yellow jackets nest (they build nests in the ground) in my grandparents front yard. I got swarmed by them. Ever since then, I've been deathly afraid of them.

The first time I noticed a beehive in skyrim, dangling from a tree...that I was standing next too, and I heard the tell-tale signs of buzzing, I took off like a bat out of hell! >.<

I am much more terrified of scorpions, centipedes, and millipedes. So many legs... The bees in this game are so harmless that my huge phobia of bees doesn't notice them. The centipede creatures in this game used to terrify me, but I got used to them. They still are gross.

My bee phobia comes from one day when I was young and playing basketball by myself. I was just shooting hoops, and out comes a hornet or wasp chasing me. His stinger was spinning as he came towards me. I ran as fast as I could to the garage. Then slammed the door as I ran into the house. Then the cicada killers decided to make their home around the house I live in. Those things may be much less likely to sting, but they are so freaking big. They, oddly enough, are not related to hornets.

I seriously was scared to play Morrowind because of the bee thing in it. I saw a picture of it flying and was so bloody terrified. I started finding those things cute, though. They looked like a cicada killer, but weren't as scary looking. I did feel sorry for them due to the fact that the Dunmeri were hurting them by carving their shells. They make such cute sounds that I can't be afraid of them now.

If only there was a way to kill off those cicada killers so that they'd never be around my house. I don't want to be riding my bike and see one saying, "Oh, hai, Klawed. How is your sanity?" while wiggling its stinger.

I heavily dislike spiders, except tamed ones, but I use my dislike to turn it into genocidal hatred and cut them down!

I absolutely hate Spiders too and i jump out of my skin in real life when i see them, not so much when i see them in Skyrim, but i still get that fear inside me, its just manageable as i know it isn't real.

I play on Xbox also and tbh, in 35 hours of play i can count on 2 hands the number of encounters i have had with Spiders, they dont seem to be very common so far for me. I hope it doesn't ruin the game for you as they are a very small part of it

Oh and also, having a fear of Spiders is hard wired into us as humans btw through evolution i believe as a defence mechanism. Anything like a Spider triggers these feelings in us.

I admit, the first time I encountered one I ran away down the tunnel, then creeped back and kept peeking round the corner firing flames at it, w/out looking at it too much. Creeped me out.
I've seen and killed so many now that they aren't a problem.

BTW, people w/out this phobia will never understand it.
All my life people have always said to me mockingly "they can't hurt you"...but that's not the issue. I don't fear a "spider bite", or even death. It's deeper than that - it's a physical and psychological aversion that completely fills you upon seeing one. There is no logical explanation for it.

I would have to disable one of my favorite mods if I was an Arachniphobe. I also dislike the idea of falling off of a log or the Whalebone Bridge, I have a healthy fear of the sudden stop at the end. The one opponent in the game that will always get me are the Afflicted in Peryites Quest

But you shouldn't feel anything as you go splat, it happens so fast and the impact is so violent that death is instant when you hit unless you manage to slow down your decent so as to have a slim chance of surviving the fall, or fall off a height that wouldn't kill you but severely injure you. As for the spiders, I myself have a slight case of arachnophobia but I know the ones in game are only pixels and pixels cannot hurt you in RL, there for my normal fear turns into a green blood lust in game, I will go out of my way to kill a spider that crosses my path in game but I do that in RL as well. ALL EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS MUST DIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! :drag: The worst part is, is that the game spiders look pretty close to the Wolf spider in RL so the first time I killed one I expected to have a wave of baby spiders hope off the dead parent spiders back and swarm me just like they do in RL. :ahhh:

You should see the wood wasps we have here home  they range from 1inch - 1.5inches in length, their stinger(also used for laying eggs in wood ) is half the length of their bodies, they make the same humming sound while flying that dragonflies do which just adds to the fear factor that their size has. Mom hates it when she gets me to come down and help her with yard work cause she has 3 old tree stumps in the yard that are wood wasp condos, so of course I avoid them like the plague and I end up leaving a nice size patch of unmowed grass in the yard as I run for my life :ahhh:
I would post pics of both wolf spiders and wood wasps but I don't want to ensue a panic attack in someone reading this topic :nope: And in case your wondering I don't live in a place like Australia where there's spiders the size of dinner plates, I hail from Canada( the east cost ).

I have quite an ~unease~ about spiders in the real world, but the ones in Skyrim do not creep me out AT ALL. I was hugely supprised.
They're just shooting practice.

I blame these: (don't click if you are arachnophobic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYn0c-odDlw They are only poisonous to humans and primates, and are very aggressive towards humans. I think people are afraid of spiders because in pre-historic times there were large versions of these that ate people. Spiders are notorious for not leaving very much in the fossil record, so we haven't seen any evidence, yet. (I jest, of course, but I like the 'humans were their dinner' explanation for why atrax robustus is so aggressive toward humans, and only so deadly to humans and apes, and nothing else). :P

At least this proves that gamesas still has it. Personally, I like it when a game manages to trigger a fear response, but I haven't experienced this in over a decade... and it was gamesas that did it. I was playing Daggerfall late one night, lights off, headphones on. I was skulking about Daggerfall, playing my wood-elf burgler, thinking of doing some burgling. I heard a sound, something like wind, and looked around apprehensively. In the distance, I saw something that looked a bit like gleaming red eyes, and saw an odd message: Ghost just died. Thoroughly perplexed, I was unprepared for what happened next. In an instant, my headphones filled with the late King Lysandus' angry roar, "VENGEANCE!" I just about fell out of my chair! :D

I think I have a reaction to a certain sound effect because of Daggerfall. I've heard it in movies, on a pinball machine once, and I think it was used in Quake (fat grenade throwing thing, as I recall), as well... but I first heard it in Daggerfall. The roar of an Ancient Vampire, indicating that death will come to me very soon...

We have those but they are the small version not the tarantula version, still creepy all the same. The most dangerous spider in Canada is the Black widow spider, just glad I live far enough N.E that the climate is too harsh for them. I used to work in a warehouse that supplied fruits and vegies around the city, we where the first line of defense against intrusive insects, everything coming in was gassed with carbon monoxide to kill what ever insects where hiding in the produce, next was our feet, if you spotted a spider coming out of a bunch of bananas you had to kill it. So be warned, when out grocery shopping and you decide to visit the produce section always check the bananas and what not for any signs of life, you wouldn't want to bring it home with you trust me :ahhh:

Dafuq did i just read? I can understand that people have phobia's. Every one has something they'r scared of. But when you're playing a game like skyrim you can't be serious when you are saying that it freaked you out? It's a game for god's sake.
I'm kinda scared of heights, but the problem for me lies more with the fear for myself doing something stupid at high places. Like the voice telling me to jump and trying to convince me that i can fly.
Don't get me wrong, i know i can fly. I have not yet learned to keep myself in the air for a long period of time yet though....

So i try to keep myself from heigths so i can resist the voice telling me to fly away...
I get very sad when i see birds also... they refuse to tell me their secret. :nope:

Having voices in your head telling you to jump from high places is a [censored] WAY WORSE problem to have than someone who is afraid of polygonal spiders.

Those aren't tarantulas, they are completely unique, very primitive compared to other spiders, and only found in one country in the world (Australia). Most people on the planet thankfully don't have to worry about them.
