use this fear to your advantage... or use this game to take control your fear.

though i must say i've never been so freaked out about something that a virtual counter part would bother me i mean it is just a game now if i saw one of those frostbite spiders in real like i would be 2 miles the other way by the time it made a step closer to me... just be glad this isn't in your room

BTW, people w/out this phobia will never understand it.
All my life people have always said to me mockingly "they can't hurt you"...but that's not the issue. I don't fear a "spider bite", or even death. It's deeper than that - it's a physical and psychological aversion that completely fills you upon seeing one. There is no logical explanation for it.
Yep. I am an arachnophobe, and this is how it is. It is not a question of being afraid of it biting you. It is a deep-seated sense of horror and loathing for a thing which should not exist. It makes your very skin crawl at the sight of the buggers.

So I modded the spiders out of the game.

Personally, I'm afraid of heights but heights never bothered me in games.
Put this on full screen and try not to go weak at the knees when you watch it.

The first time I watched this, I actually felt my knees start to weaken, especially when he looks down and you see exactly how far down it is.

As for Spiders, think of them as just pixels on a screen. They are not real. If it makes you feel less frightened, try to concentrate on the stupid noises they make and think how ridiculous it sounds.

Those aren't tarantulas, they are completely unique, very primitive compared to other spiders, and only found in one country in the world (Australia). Most people on the planet thankfully don't have to worry about them.

I know  I was trying to convey size  the little guys who make funnel webs here are also called jumping spiders. They hunt on foot, not by web but don't get any bigger then this smiley face  the ones you where talking( actual funnel web spiders ) are the same size as a small tarantulas like the ones you can get from a pet store.

Yeeeaaahhh no! There is NO amount of money that could convince me to do that for a living, I'm not afraid of heights or anything but that was toooOOooo high for me!

Actually even your everyday average garden spider's bite can be a little painful( no more then a bee sting ) it's dependent on the person's reaction to it. Just like bee stings, spider venom effects people who have a weaker defense more then those with a stronger defense. I've been bitten by a wolf spider before, the bite spot was like a really bad fly bite or a pretty good bee sting.

You should see the wood wasps we have here home  they range from 1inch - 1.5inches in length, their stinger(also used for laying eggs in wood ) is half the length of their bodies, they make the same humming sound while flying that dragonflies do which just adds to the fear factor that their size has. Mom hates it when she gets me to come down and help her with yard work cause she has 3 old tree stumps in the yard that are wood wasp condos, so of course I avoid them like the plague and I end up leaving a nice size patch of unmowed grass in the yard as I run for my life :ahhh: I would post pics of both wolf spiders and wood wasps but I don't want to ensue a panic attack in someone reading this topic :nope: And in case your wondering I don't live in a place like Australia where there's spiders the size of dinner plates, I hail from Canada( the east cost ).

We have asian hornets here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_giant_hornet. How they got to America, and more specifically, to east Tennessee (where I live) I have no idea. But, they're [censored] huge, [censored] aggressive, very lethal and the sound they make when flying makes my skin crawl. You can also hear them from about 30 feet away....long before you ever see them.

Just 3 of them can kill 1 million honey bees in about half an hour. They just bite their heads off. I've also seen them kill humming birds.

There are always two near the road to Morthal, and another two between the giant camp and Fort Dunstad. Commonly some past Fort Dunstad too. Apart from those nearly assured encounters they are quite rare out in the open. However some nordic ruins have them too in the middle.

And i'd rather have a mod that changes bear to spiders :P

I'm only saying now cause I recently had an encounter with three frostbite spiders and died, I got really embarrassed and annoyed. I died because I'm afraid of spiders (in real life) and ran away when I turned the spider was mid-lunge and I got very creeped out. Is there a setting to disable spiders and replace them?

I thought i was the only one ! i always wince and close my eyes just flailing my sword till i hear it die xD

ha i was partly joking but he seriously is afraid of spiders, ive seen him cry a little when 1 crawled on his neck and he's grown.

fears can be conquered...i used to be acrophobic (heights) until i worked a construction job years ago and had to walk on thin beams a few stories up with no harness. I had no choice but to man up to make money

Then you may have to find a way to turn that fear into a genocidal, Frost Spider killing hatred.

yeap if you're on xbox then the only way is to try this i suppose. Also, blasting spiders with magic (especially the continous stream of magic ones) make them, uh, less visible due to all the zapping covering their hideous features

And if you train your Sneak and Archery, you'll never have to get close to them again.
That would be my suggestion. They usually never even get close, i just snipe them with the bow. But then again, i don't have to deal with the phobia ...

I clicked the link... Screamed and luckily, didn't let myself examine those things. Eastern Cicada Killers are the big guys when it comes to things related to ants and bees around my house. They just randomly started choosing to call the yards home one summer, and my mom found one. It hissed. It looks like those bee creatures you encounter in the first Lands of Lore game, but actually much more harmless. Though, they are huge.

When a Cicada Killer finds a cicada, it will simply grab onto the entire prey's body... *screams more*

Because this is a cartoon spider and youre a big cartoon hero this is actually a good way to tackle your fear.

If you avoid your fear, you only make it stronger.
Go kill a few, its statisfying.

That, I think.

I'm not the biggest fan of spiders, the eight legs and billion eyes thing, ugh, I wouldn't say I have a phobia of them, I can handle them with my hands to move them out the window, but as soon as I do, I get an involuntary shiver down my spine. Same thing happens when I kill a spider in Skyrim.

I think games have a more profound effect on us than we would like to think.

I used to work for a wood yard and we used to see wood wasps that were bigger than that. The guys used to catch them and use a nail gun to pin them to the wall in ever increasing sizes. The largest one was about half again the length of that Asian Giant Hornet on the guys hand in that picture and it's sting was like a darning needle, you'd certainly give that one a wide berth. :bolt:
