Are the Silver Hand really so bad?

Post » Sat Sep 22, 2012 6:04 am

Say wha? Ive NEVER in any game been attacked by Imperial nor Stormcloaks for strolling into any of their camps or forts. I'm camped inside one now as we speak. The Silver Hands though? I've simply walked by one of their forts and they attacked.

Exactly. I would normally support the Silver Hand, were it a choice. Because I'm not all that fond of werewolves, truth be told. But I walk into one of their strongholds. They don't ask me to leave, they just jump on me, attack me. So now they're dead, and I have a fancy new silver sword.

Given who they are, I think I just might rethink my normal policy of not doing the Companions quest. Because these guys really need their assets kicked.

Huh? They yell and make threatening gestures like bandits, even from rather far away if they spot you.
I once dismisser a follower inside a castle I just captured with the legion, as my follower slowly wandered off, all the soldiers started harrassing and finally killing :(

I've never had anything like that at ever happen. No jestures, no threats no anything.

I could care less about the silver hand really. I don't think they're evil evil. They just lack depth. They seemed like normal bandits to me.

This pretty much. The Silver Hand are evil simply for the sake of being evil. They're not meant to have any actual depth or backstory past "Muhaha eveel werewolf hunters" and are generally pretty pathetic for a faction that is in direct opposition with the legendary Companions >_>.

Because they murder without discrimination, it doesn't matter if the werewolves are dangerious or not they kill them simply because they exist. They do so for pleasure not out of some duty to protecting the peoples of skyrim.
Well, Werewolves are dangerous. They kill the innocent as well.

I wish all the quests had more options and outcomes. Joining the Silverhand would have been a welcomed addition. They could have been a unique faction, in lieu of copying the Bandit actors.

I haven't heard of the dawnguard nailing vampires to walls likw the silverhand does to werewolves. If you approach the dawnguard as a vampire but without siding with the Harkon they simply tell you to get cured, there really isn't evidence they hunt vampires that don't deserve it.
No evidence? The Dawnguard has a torture chamber, for crying out loud. With Vampire skulls lining the walls. It's rather evident they do some pretty bad things to blood svckers.

Them not attacking the PC is bad scripting. Not really from getting the disease after joining, as that can easily happen while combating Vampires all the time. But to even be able to enter originally as a Vampire makes no since at all.

Not all werewolves kill people though, innocents that is, check the companions and poor Sinding before getting the cursed Ring. The Silverhands are bad because they don't discriminate between the cursed who control themselves, those who give into the hunt or those who are driven mad.

Well then its kind of hard to do that when you see a hulking 7 foot 250 lb monster staring right at you....

And that's the thing. I want to know why they feel that way. Is it because werewolves did something to them to cause them to be this hateful or are they just a fancy name that beth just tacked on in the companions questline?

The latter considering the severe lack of backstory for the faction. They don't even have unique armor or anything they're just regular bandits.

Not if you don't go looking for it. Big difference in wandering through the forest to be besest by a werewolf and hunting down a poor sob, bringing him back and torturing/caging him.

And all the Silver Hand do this why? Exactly there's hardly any explanation or backstory so it makes their motivations an extremely trite kind of "eveel". Not every werewolf hunter is a sadistic zealot who gets his jollies from impaling people and hanging their dead bodies on hooks. At least they aren't supposed to be but unfortunately instead of making the Silver Hand a fully fleshed out faction with unique chars. and a backstory along with some depth we got the stereotypical (and convenient since it would make Aela look bloodthirsty if we were killing off people who were legitimately threatened or attacked by werewolves) bad guy faction.

I agree with you, I wish they had more depth to them, just saying as they are now they are hardly anything more than your typical bad guy monster haters.

I knew from the moment I entered that first Silver-Hand fort and saw dead werewolf heads on spikes... I knew their fate had just been sealed.

I do wish there was more of a back story to them like some kinda dawnguard vs vampire type thing. But there isn't because werewolves not not all that involved in anything with Skyrim. Aside from the Companions, there is no references to them whatsoever.

There's that quest in Falkreath.

No the Silver Hand aren't evil and further evidence that Beth dropped the ball with the companions guildline. Instead of having a proper antagonist or goal we have something completely different and terrible.

I have an obsession with the heart, it's function, beauty in design and even how it looks, as well as it's significance to life. Werewolves eat hearts.

Werewolves bad!

I believe..

Spoiler

Sinding mentions that he lost control due to the cursed Ring that was supposed to give him greater control over his transformations. He's really as much a victim as that poor girl.

They're basically bandits with silver weapons who happen to dislike werewolves.
Yeah I was soooo disppointed when I went to find one of their bases to get me some silver weapons and instead of a group of armored monster hunters I found a bunch of bandits with delusions of grandeour skinning werewolves...it was a wasted opportunity for such a cool named faction

I killed every silverblood inside that mine. There are four groups of people that I dislike the most.

Imperials (especially)
Forsworn
Thalmor
Silverbloods

SilverHANDS are not SilverBLOODs, were talking about the werewolf hunters not the shadow rulers of Markarth.

That bothered me too.

I don't see the Silver Hand as evil either. If anything the Companions seem more evil.

7 foot 250 lb seems like a scrawny werewolf. 7 foot 400 lbs seems much more healthy for a werewolf.

Thats interseting, why do The Companion's seem evil? or more evil?. The blood of the Beast they take as a gift and allows them to be better warriors and hunters, but they don't go around killing people for the heck of it. The Silverhands on the otherhand, like stated, don't care about the state of your condition, only that the wolf blood runs through your veigns and that enough to make your life forfit.

The Companions might not be super evil, but they seem at least as evil or more evil than the Silver Hand.

For one thing of course some of them are werewolves. When your character turns into a werewolf the town is terrified and damaged. The Silver Hand wants to stop that. They only seek werewolves, whereas the Companions kill normal humans in the Silver Hand. Also the Companions are mercenaries, and may take unsavory assignments it seems. Of course the game wants you to believe the Companions are good and Silver Hand is evil, so I think you get a skewed in-game perspective.
