ATI HD XXXX and DualCore CPU PROBLEM SOLVED

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 6:17 pm

Hello,

For info, this config is working (textures are ok if you choose small cache, large cache is not working) but I have a lot of ingame lags. Bash TV is almost unplayable...

My config :
C2D E6850 overclocked @3.4GHz
Radeon 5850 1GB
3GB ram
Win 7 32bits
Catalyst 11.10 preview 2

The game was running much better before the [censored] patch using Catalyst 11.6 version (as proposed by someone on the forum)... after the patch, it was not working anymore and performances became a shame... Honestly, how can ID guys sell a game that is not working !! Let's confess you made no test at all... C2D were one of the most popular processors and Radeon 4K or 5K cards also... As a customer, I think you have no respect for us as you are selling such an unachieved piece of [censored]... So, ID, please give us a patch very soon, I don't want to know who is guilty, AMD or ID, it is not my problem, I bought a game I want to play it as it should be !

Multiplayer uses a separate base directory, you need to paste the rageconfig.cfg file into the multiplayer base directory too.

After a long weekend of testing, many tweaks and stuff...
I don't know how you found it, and from where, but my friend - IT WORKS! :)))
THANK YOU! I got 50+ FPS, no black boxes, no texture problems - nothing! :) I will play some more for better testing! :)
Thanks again! :)

You should ONLY add +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 as a launch parameter! By default value of that variable is 1 and it need to be set to 0. Because normal variable asignment via .cfg doesn't seem to change it I found a way to make it 0 by using cvaradd function with -1 so you get 0 so I posted that to couple of threads. Now it seems like you took it for granted and have put that in more than one place. When you launch the game jobs_numThreads should be 0 already if you used launch parameter and by calling the same again it would then go bellow 0 (0 - 1 = -1), (-1 - 1 = -2) which is probably what can cause crash for some pople. So be careful with it, do not use cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 more than once and you can also check current value of variable by typing 'j' or 'jobs' into console and pressing TAB to see the current values. Value must be 0.

I followed your instructions and it did not fix the game's massive stuttering problem for me. As a matter of fact, it is now worse for me. :/

My PC:
AMD Athlon II 5600+ x2 @2.91GHz
ATI 5770 1GB
4GB DDr2 @800MHz

This rig is underpowered by today's standards but it runs Crysis 1&2 perfectly. I can see no reason why my rig should not run Rage at even minimal settings.
I sure hope id gets their [censored] together and fixes this ASAP.

Doesn't work, game is still a slideshow. The only thing that's worked at all for me is placing the atioglxx.dll from Catalyst 11.6 in the Rage directory, and even then the game runs at <30 FPS (not a slideshow though).

+1 to this. The engine is under-optimised for a higher latency system architectures.

Consoles have integrated low latency architectures which negate much of the issues seen on PCs i.e. texture streaming.

This is most notable on the Xbox system; the PS3 had streaming issues on launch.

The developers have not used the greater raw muscle of PCs to overcome latency issues through better memory environment management.

iD might have been better building an OS shell environment dedicated GL in which to run the application.

Old shell replacers like GameOS were themselves an advance on the old iD Boot Disk you could create to clear out your 486 DX66 ready to play Doom 2.

Fix this software please or give it to us free to fix ourselves.

I just wiped out all the optimizations (rageConfig.cfg, rage folder in AppData\Local, Steam start parameters) and was hell of surprised! With these AMD Catalyst? 11.10 Version 2 Preview Drivers the game runs better without all this... texture popping is present but it was worse before. No crashes, no weird textures.

bah i give up on this game, i can't play cs 1.6 cose of the new catalyst drivers and the new catalyst makes my witcher 2 work like crap it loads 3 times more than with the old catalyst this is bull i've said my piece hope u have fun with this game but it's clear to me ever since i loved those engine 2 games they had with pirates they were full'o'bugs i'm surprised fallout 3 works fine tbh.

this was my last post i'm logged out forevz and my rage uninstalled because i'd rather play cs 1.6 and witcher 2 than try to solve all the problems a crappy firm has; these problems should have been solved before launch date after all they weren't just bugs and the game was still playable, the game was actually unplayable from the freaking start check this out ppl are getting together to solve their problems even after they paid FOR A WORKING GAME this is pathetic, sad and ciao.

I have set my rageconfig.sys to these settings:

seta com_videoRam "2048"
seta image_anisotropy "4"
seta image_usecompression "0"
seta image_lodbias "-1"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "200"
seta image_cacheMinK "50"
seta m_smooth "0"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_maxPPF "8"
seta vt_lodBias "-1"
seta vt_minlod "-1"
seta vt_maxaniso "2"

My shortcut is: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\Rage.exe" +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +seta com_allowconsole 1 +vt_maxPPF 8

and the game starts 100% now

in the setting under Video i have:

1440x900 [16.10] - Resolution
Full screen - Display Mode
4X - Anti Aliasing
OFF - V Sync
Small - Texture Cache
High - Anisotropic Filter

And games runs @ 60 FPS, All graphics are good and no lag at all.

But 1 Problem, i Can't get past Eden Project because once i go to open the door it Crashes the game.
Has anyone got a solution to this?

My System:

Win 7 - 32 bit
Intel? Core? Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Gigabyte 965P-DQ6 - 6-Quad M/board
4GB duel kit
ATI HD5970 2GB GDDR5 Memory, PCI E - 16

Thanks for this, would've gotten around to posting sooner but I've been busy actually playing the game LOL. Works for me on:

AMD Dual Core Athlon II x2 245 2.9 Ghz
4GB DDR 3 RAM
ATI RADEON HD5570 1GB
11.10 Preview 2 Drivers

I get tiny artifacting issues, but it's very rare and only happens when driving. I've also tried with different CCC settings, and with the atioglxx.dll file both in and out of the RAGE folder, with no difference.

Before this I was using the 11.6 Catalyst Drivers with a tweak posted by someone else earlier, but the one posted in this thread allows me to play with a steady 45-60 FPS :)

In-game settings:
1920x1080 / 1600x900 / 1360x768 (3 monitors, same result, approx 2-4 FPS difference between 1360x768 compared to 1920x1080, not noticeable without FRAPS counter)
AA - x4 (any setting works)
V-Sync - ON (any setting works)
Texture Cache - SMALL (setting this to LARGE causes artifacts)
AF - Off (any setting works)
In-game settings have no affect on performance whatsoever, I leave AF off because it doesn't appear to do very much at the moment.

The only thing this tweak doesn't do that the 11.6 driver tweak did for me, is take the 100% load off my CPU, but even at 100% usage it still works perfectly, texture streaming is barely noticeable.

Thanks for this!
