Bad, Infuential Intro.. The Imperials.

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:11 pm

The guy who gets his head chopped off said it, he tells that he was a challenge and a fair one. The solitude court members protest that had they known that Ulfric wanted to challenge the High king to a duel they would have denied entry into the city to him.

They then turn around and LIE about what happened, after having been RIGHT THERE where it took place.
Ulfric says it him self, he killed the high king in a duel, according to the old nord law (still in effect AFAIK) because if the king can not protect his self, how can he protect the people?

The widow plays the victim card when you talk to her about it, and lies about what happened.
It is my opinion that they are truly getting paid for the spreading of lies.

I don't know about this, I've never heard Ulfric say that he used a sword to kill him, just that it was in a duel. General Tallius said that Ulfric used "the voice" to kill the High King, and guards all over the place say that he "shouted him to pieces." Sounds to me like the High King got Fus Ro Dah to the face.

After going both ways in the beginning of two seperate characters, i've ended up not liking either of them. Ulfric represents a path that does a lot of things right, but with all the wrong goals and reasons, and if you leave it to him for too long it will end up worse than it currently is. On the other hand, the Empire is a stagnant mess of beaurocracy on its way to assimilation into the Thalmor.

My good character will probably join the Empire and help to make them strong again. My evil character will probably join the stormcloaks, wait until the opportune moment, and then exterminate the leadership of the Empire, the Stormcloaks, and the Thalmor in one strike, taking control of all three and merging them into one massive evil utopian empire.

I sometimes wonder which way would work better...

I feel bad for the next hero. You know, the one who's going to have to ballance cleaning this whole mess up alongside saving the world from the next ancient evil. I would feel bad for the Dragonborn, and I kinda do, but for someone called a hero they sure do go about making almost everything worse.

Odds are, the next hero will do the same. It's kinda tradition now. Hmm...

Also, You know whats really funny? If that overly proud moron of a Stormcloak didn't say "Lets get this over with already" he would have been saved by the dragon? That immediately made me think..."Man...must svck to be a proudful idiot...if he would have just kept his mouth shut...few more moments..." lmao

You should mod that in your game.

Instead of him being first on the chopping block, you go first and he gets saved at the last minute by the dragon. Then Alduin eats the world.

Ulfric will say exactly "it was my sword piercing his chest that killed him", the general was not in the area when it happened so he only know what he is told, same as the people and the guards.

The thing about the intro is that the Imperials there that day may not represent the Empire as a whole. It may be just those select few officers who are to blame for not following proper protocol.

Ulfric doesn't speak up and say you're innocent, but then again, would it matter if he did? It's not like they would believe a word he says. And what if your character ISN'T innocent? It's up to you as to what your character was doing before he got captured. I think the intro is pretty open to interpretation.

General Tullius is there. He's the head of the Legion for the entire province.

Ulfric is gagged.

May have something to do with the fact that Ulfric is gagged. Lol

Did he not use a shout first and then poke the high king with his sword??

...I made a perilous journey all the way to Solitude to join the Imperials.

Was it worth it?

To me, it was totally worth it. Got to kill a major figure in Nordic Culture, got to kill a ton of Stormcloaks, had a TINY shout fight with Ulfric, took his clothes, and his guard's as well, got to join my favorite army, and brought peace to Skyrim. Feelsgoodman.jpg

I'm 120 hours in and havn't chosen yet. Started out as going to go Stormcloaks due to the intro but am now definitely going Imperials. I don't see any reason for anyone but a Nord to go Stormcloaks, they are total dikes led by a super dike.

Just another reason to not go Legion. Save yourself the disappointment when later in the game after completing the questline of running into Legion members who talk crap to you call you a citizen and don't even recognize your title or Legion armor.
I will never side with the Legion again their random spawns ruin the immersion.

To put it simply, anyone who pays any attention to the game, after the beginning, will recognise that the two sides are brilliantly grey.

Stop trying to minimize the blame to just the Captain. It is everyone's responsibility to act morally. And it is the General's responsibility to ensure his subordinates are acting appropriately. It is far easier to say the General does not care about innocent lives than it is to say he's too incompetent to manage his own men.

General Tullius was talking to Ulfric at that point, or at least not there. That Captain blatantly overstepped her authority even though hadvar told her you weren't on the list, and Hadvar was clearly unhappy with it but complied because she was higher rank than him.

He did admit that the first impression you got of the Empire was terrible and admitted you had every right to be mad at them, but begs you to give them a second chance. That he admitted their faults is admirable enough for me to choose to indulge him and give him that chance.

OK I HAVE THE ANSWER TO THIS, IT'S CALLED A WORK OF EXCELLENT WRITING!

http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/5107506

Read this article, it explains why the game is so well written and why the bad guy is not so obvious and makes you THINK.

I know sme people like a black and white world, but skyrim is complex and layered, thats what makes it so compelling.

I just red all post till yours, and I don't agree.

Both sides are rather gray. I don't agree with Ulfric himself on a lot of things, but I do agree strongly with the Stormcloak movement as a whole. The empire is weak. It would have been costly, it may have resulted in defeat, but the empire should have continued the Great War instead of initiating a ceasefire with the Dominion. Sure, the empire is repairing itself and trying to raise strength for another conflict, but the Dominion is doing the same while gaining ever more influence over the empire itself. Not to mention the empire continues to splinter, while the Dominion grows stronger. It's possible that an empire with Skyrim can take on the Dominion, but I find it hard to place my trust in that. I believe Skyrim should stand empire-free in this fight. Hammerfell never accepted the ceasefire, they continued the war for 5 more years. In that time they not only survived, but completely repelled the dominion from Hammerfell. That was with no imperial assistance, against the full might of the surviving dominion.

Who's to say the Nords can't do the same? Perhaps they can even ally with Hammerfell, seeing as the two nations seem intent on combating the Thalmor threat while the Empire tries to hold itself together, all the while giving power to the Dominion.

I think I just found the RP rationalization for my yet-to-be-created Nord character siding with the Stormcloaks! TY!

Stormcloaks are freedom fighters trying to liberate their country. I didnt find ulfric to be that selfish of a guy with the things he said. The impwrials are occupying skyrim and im all for liberating it with my nord characters

to this and others

try 1 shotting someone with Fus Ro Dah, DOESNT happen.... Less extremely over powered to them IE level differential.. ok place this in context of jarl vs king... jar faces of jarl in a duel or overwhelms him... jarl superior wins..... jarl is dictator big hoolah either way pick your side....

reality 2... pick your side or pick no side... they pick for you... you not with them your against them....

reality 3... if the imperials were merely executing you out of strict behavior enforcment... (sort of set the standards in front of the elves, for the elvers as a leeway device or as a slap in their face wake up mercilessnesss.)

the scrutiny of that can only be place upon the nords in that.... they cut themselves off to their own regard... which ultimately is the end game result.... so ultimately.... dragons are back to life.... empire is spreading meeting the brink of evil that are the elves.. the elves see fit to conquer all... the nords can not go down into sovngrade without proper worship of talos... unless they die fighting for his name....

yardi yahdi yada... i need some cigs...

but really yall... get with it...

its a kill killer game out here. leave your sentiments at the door.

That is exactly what I used it for :foodndrink:

I'm actually having trouble rationalizing a character to join the Empire now. I'm trying to find a reason for a Dunmer Assassin to assist the Empire. I'd more likely side with the Thalmor on him, were that an option.

Spoiler
Besides, he's already assassinated the... err... "Leader"

To me I view the empire right now as the Roman Empire after the Visigoths and Ostrogoth sacked Rome and then had a semi rule of the western roman empire. When that happen part of empire rebelled and left the empire. Like what the Stormcloaks r trying to and u get to make that choice. For me as Khajiit i went with the SC yea they are xenophobic but Ulfric him self doesn't hate other races but the nords under his rule does which reflect on him. Heck in windhlem there is a few elves that support Ulfric even though he distrust the elves. but the choice to join either side is more ur true self and each side has the good and the bad it is also up to you make the moral choice it depends if you view the stormcloaks as terrorist or revolutionaries. Just remember that is a thin line between the 2 to us in the usa r founding fathers r revolutionaries fighting for the good but to the British crown that they r terrorist trying to destroy the crown. I enjoyed the SC questline and some of the ideals makes sense but i might do the empire side next play through now just trying to plat the game right now.
