Bad sign from Pete's twitter...

Sounds like nutty Nancy Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill, before you can see what's in it."

Oh please st-fu. with the politics. There's enough constantly elsewhere without having it on the gaming forums.

This patch will not fix it and likely won't be fixed in the near future if at all. When you see the guy say things like "hear from folks like the last tweet I replied to that say "no probs here". We'll keep looking." OR "We are investigating it and why only some people are seeing it and many folks, like you, don't have an issue."

He's just covering the company's ass by saying this because he knows there is no fix.

Nope. Sometimes a bug fix turns out to be far simpler than expected. It has to happen at some point, so what's so odd that it might have happened within those 5 hours? It has to happen in some 5 hour block at some point during some day. Granted, not every bug is that easy to fix but often they are. You get the right programmer looking at the right thing at the right time and boom, problem solved.

Thanks for all your reasoned, objective posts.

Huston we have a problem : I just called Eb games ask them about the lags issues, they told me that many other clients ask them if they could get their money back, but they said no. I asked them if I could get an Xbox copy they also said no.
So if I cannot get my money back, if I cannot change the game for an xbox version, and the fact that the game won't fixed. Bethesda just gave me a 60 years old car and told me it's as fast as a lamborghini. :D
haha...just lost 60$ and I can't even play anymore...

GOOD JOB bethesda

I don't see the lag being fixed 100%. It seems to be an inherent flaw in their game engine, a flaw which has manifested itself in several games now.

Oblivion ran great on the PS3. If they couldn't make the new Elder Scrolls game run at least as good as the last one they shouldn't have made a new one.

Yeah it will never be totally and completely 100% perfectly fixed. Just the nature of the game worlds that are being established in these games. So much stuff to track, eventually it will bog the engine down a bit here and there. They should be able find a way to alleviate some of it however.

I think they should have outsourced the PS3 version to the people that made the PS3 version of Oblivion a beacon of HOPE for PS3 adopters. Those guys really knew what they were doing... at the console's launch window while Bethesda still hasn't figured it out years after its release. This is pathetic. Oblivion's saved data files NEVER had a semblance of this issue and the game really took advantage of PS3 hardware, for the time. Bethesda... they're among the worst PS3 developers out there, at the moment, and it's a shame since most of the rest of the gaming industry learned how to program for the PS3. There is no excuse for this [censored]. Bethesda are an anomaly... a clearly slow-to-learn development company that's lagging far behind industry standards when it comes to PS3 code and so this is just inexcusable.

I agree.

If they need to contact that company and get them to make a patch then so be it.

I don't really care how long it takes, this problem needs to be FIXED not patched.

I doubt any of us are under the delusion that this upcoming patch will fix anything other than minor quest related bugs and the 360's streaming texture issue. Don't you think if they were going to patch the lag on the PS3 that they would have shouted it from the rooftops by now? It would shut us up and god knows that's something they'd like.

Fair enough. It was just getting annoying with people constantly saying "that company that did Oblivion for ps3" ... They love them so much but they don't one their name.

Ah, I see.

I agree, we should use their name.
They deserve representation more than Bethesda do, or I should say that company who failed at porting Skyrim to the PS3.

If Bethesda wanted this fixed then it would have been done in a targeted hotfix which would then be put into expedited cert.

What Bethesda is doing is just following the standard post-release patching course of doing another round of fixes across all of the platforms and pushing them all out at once in order to blanket the patch release as "version 1.2".

That isn't to say that the issue won't be fixed but to let something so obvious and so egregious go for nearly a month without a fix leaves me with little hope.

There's a big difference between taking the game-breaking issue seriously and quickly releasing a hotfix versus bundling things all-together in a multi-platform catch-all because Microsoft and Sony charge developers/publishers for the content push. Bethesda is trying to do this on the cheap to the detriment of PS3 owners and it's gross.

Umm.. the game has only been out a week dude, and it's out of their hands now, so in reality, they only took a week to make a new patch.. not too shabby if you ask me.

Why is everyone so sure of this? I know everyone is on edge, but for godssake, it not even out yet and we don't know what is truly going to do! They'd be right asses if they allowed yet a third game to go on with these issues.

Huston we have a problem : I just called Eb games ask them about the lags issues, they told me that many other clients ask them if they could get their money back, but they said no. I asked them if I could get an Xbox copy they also said no.

Is this fact? Sources please?

Again, if this is fact, please cite your sources.

Nope. I've said it many times here already. They never announce any fixes/patches until it's ready for release. It's SOP for them, and I don't see that changing.

I tried to point out that this patch is not likely to fix the lag, but thread was locked. I believe it takes longer than a day to figure out an issue, write the code, and include it in a patch. Maybe I'm wrong about that, maybe a software person can elighten us on that possibility.

I don't know if he's being sarcastic or not, but he posted this on twitter about 6 hours ago:

@agas148 We are working on Dragon Shout DLC at the moment. A fix for the PS3 will be released on March 18, 2012.

I don't even know what to think about that.

I call shenanigans...
He couldn't give us an exact day that the current patch will drop in the next week, but he can miraculously pull out an exact date for a fix 4 months away? This either isn't him, or his acct. was hacked by a troll to add fuel to the fire.

Just so you guys know, there are two different Twitter accounts claiming to be Pete Hines. Far as I know, THIS one...

https://twitter.com/#!/DCDaecon

...is fake and posts sarcastic remarks about PS3, including the silly one about a fix coming in 2012.

https://twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon

THIS one, is again, as far as I know, the legit account for Pete. Note the similar spelling. A fair mistake. You should really only read tweets from the second one if you want to hear from Pete. Or you can look at the first one for a laugh. Hope that clears up some confusion. Things move fast, though, so it'll probably get buried to page six in one minute.

Yeah, I knew that. What made you think I didn't? If I just put out a random "4J Studios", plenty of people wouldn't know what I'm talking about and perhaps I could have put it down and explained, in parenthesis, who they are, but who are you to criticize me so seemingly gravely for not meticulously and perfectly detailing such in thing in one of my posts? So my post doesn't perfectly explain all the details of reality... so what? Few do. If you need proof that I know full well who 4J Studios are, feel free to dig through my posting history and you'll see. I know the name of the studio. If we're to play semantics, perhaps my referencing them as "people" rather than by a company name is a sign of respect. Perhaps I would associate Bethesda's behavior with that of a monetarily-based company and 4J Studios' work with that of people... fellow human beings who actually take pride in what they do.
