Bad sign from Pete's twitter...

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:27 pm

@tcoertjens Because we have folks playing it, hear from folks like the last tweet I replied to that say "no probs here". We'll keep looking

@jonohimself Understand it's frustrating if you're having issues. We are investigating. Hang in there.

PS3 & 360 updates have been submitted for certification. PC coming too. Current estimate is they will be live the week after T’giving.

Okay, let's review.

He says they're still investigating the lag problem, and then a few hours later he says the patch is complete and is undergoing certification?

I don't know about ya'll, but this tells me the problem isn't going to be fixed in the update...

Of course it means that. Why else do you think they won't tell what the patch addresses?

Honestly it has to pass certification before thay can officially release what it does.

Edit: Typo.

This. You don't announce what a patch does before it's even been properly tested and certified, that's just asking for even more trouble.

And it's not a bad sign - it just means that 5 hours ago they hadn't sent the patch for certification yet. It's very possible that within those 5 hours they found a fix and submitted it.

Or it could just be bad communication. Pete isn't on the ground floor for whatever happens inside of BGS. He was just trying to do damage control.

There is also the possibility that its a simple error that was overlooked, which caused crippling damage, and could be easily fixed. I'm pretty sure we've all had one of those moments before when troubleshooting our PC's. After 3 go around's with the PS3, maybe BGS finally knew what to look for.

Here's to hoping for the best. May the best bring us peace of mind.

If 1.2 doesn't fix it, everyone needs to DEMAND a PRODUCT RECALL/REFUND simple as that.

I'm not saying all hope is lost.

But if this isn't bad communication, then you can pretty much bet money that the problem will not be fixed.

Nope. Sometimes a bug fix turns out to be far simpler than expected. It has to happen at some point, so what's so odd that it might have happened within those 5 hours? It has to happen in some 5 hour block at some point during some day. Granted, not every bug is that easy to fix but often they are. You get the right programmer looking at the right thing at the right time and boom, problem solved.

Well when people are up against various returns and exchanges policies from various retailers it's important to know if this specific issue is addressed before their 7/14/20/whatever days are up and they then have to file complaints with various agencies in order to get their money back.

Well as unlikely as that is, another forum member said yesterday that he got an email from a Bethesda representative saying the exact same thing Pete just tweeted.

I had my doubts about that post but now I'm pretty sure he was telling the truth. And that pretty much kills any possibility in my mind that this could have been fixed in the past 6 hours.

If timing were an issue for me in a situation like this I'd just go return the game right away, then if it turns out that the patch addresses the problem I'm having I'd just go back and pick it up again.

What if Sony rejected the update after Bethesda publicly said what the patch was going to fix?

That would cause even more headaches for them. And maybe even legal issues.

I don't care. They're telling 360 and PC players directly what they aim to fix. They should be telling us, as well... but they aren't.

I agree that they could be more open about how they're going about fixing the lag.

But they couldn't just come out and say "Don't worry guys the next patch will fix the lag!"

If 1.2 doesn't fix it, I'll simply demand to be able to send in my PS3 copy and get a 360 copy in return. It's still a great game, but I've learned my lesson about buying Bethesda games on the PS3 (first game from Bethesda I've played on PS3).

Exactly if 1.2 doesn't fix it, Bethesda better start considering a product recall and refund for all PS3 copies. Everyone with the issue should start demanding a recall and refund as well.

So we rushed the PS3 version.

It was cripplingly buggy.

Now it just seems like they're rushing the patch. I know I'm the embodiment of the hypocrisy and double standard of the internet right now, but this just seems a bit too fast and rushed to fix anything important.

Please God let it not be so. I really want to enjoy this game.

If Bethesda wanted this fixed then it would have been done in a targeted hotfix which would then be put into expedited cert.

What Bethesda is doing is just following the standard post-release patching course of doing another round of fixes across all of the platforms and pushing them all out at once in order to blanket the patch release as "version 1.2".

That isn't to say that the issue won't be fixed but to let something so obvious and so egregious go for nearly a month without a fix leaves me with little hope.

There's a big difference between taking the game-breaking issue seriously and quickly releasing a hotfix versus bundling things all-together in a multi-platform catch-all because Microsoft and Sony charge developers/publishers for the content push. Bethesda is trying to do this on the cheap to the detriment of PS3 owners and it's gross.

I would have been a lot more happy if they only released this game on Xbox and PC...

Not only would it have been better on both of those systems, but I wouldn't have invested the money I did into preparing for Skyrim on the PS3 only to be severely let down.

Yes I would have been a little upset I had to buy a whole new console to play the game... but that's where I am now - $60 bucks and my first experience of the game...

Edit: The money I invested on my PS3 was a new pair of high quality headphones... which would have got me really close to getting an Xbox.

If the patch 1.2 don't fix the problem, everybody will have the right to ask their money back. There is nothing more to say. Wait and see. Fixed or repaid.
