Being vilified by the NCR...

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:08 pm

What happens every time I visit the Strip when vilified by the NCR:

Unarmed NCR troops try to start fighting me. If I fight back then the Securitrons come down on me like a ton of bricks, so instead I stand around gormlessly and watch my companions run around beating the NCR infidels to death, chasing across all three sections down to the last man. The Securitrons are fine with this, they don't bat an eyelid, even if (as sometimes happens) a random gambler or hoker is caught in the crossfire. This little performance happens every single time I visit the Strip, and although it was quite amusing the first time the novelty has worn off and it's rather tedious now.

Isn't the Strip supposed to be a kind of neutral zone? House doesn't let the NCR carry weapons, and law enforcement is the responsibilty of his robots. The girl at Vault 21 talks about having Legion peeps as well as NCR at her hotel, and Vulpes comes to find the player on the Strip. Legion and NCR personnel. it is implied, co-exist peacefully (if uneasily) on the Strip. Why do the NCR not extend the courtesy to me? I've no objection to being attacked on sight in NCR territory, but the Strip is not NCR territory. Why aren't the Securitrons coming down on the NCR goons who attack me first? They're the ones in breach of the peace, not me. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't rely on my own coterie of invisible-to-the-law bodyguards.

The treaty states that the robots can't arrest NCR people. That is the job of the MPs. If the MPs attack you or guys, well what can I say? I never was that evil to NCR people. If you don't want to be molested by the NCR on the strip, just wear one of their uniforms while there.

Insofar as seeing CL guys on the strip, the only ones there are spies. New Vegas is the antithesis of everything the Legion stands for.

Yeah, it’s a hard road.

Ya know when I first started playing I figured that if you flipped on the NCR you could hop over and build your character up on the Legion side of the river.

Nope. Turns out they don’t have a lot of real estate over there.

Also: the NCR have about 400 related side-quests, Caesar's Legion about four. There's not nearly as much to do when siding with the Legion.

Sounds like a few important oversights were made with the coding here. Hopefully if this comes to Obsidian's attention they can fix it at some point.

I was vilified by NCR early and was able to complete most of the NCR quests wearing a disguise. now I think I'm considered a "Merciful Thug" - waiting to complete Boone's companion quest before I completely wipe them out.

It's sad that your pretty much obligated to side with he NCR, otherwise, there really isn't much to do in New Vegas.
It's a pretty one-sided game.
Not much choice in it really.

You can still do all the NCR quests, even if you side with Caesar's legion, just wear an NCR disguise.

I did most of the NCR quests while liked or idolized by CL and vilified by NCR. Also, the NCR seem to have a very short memory. I noticed they would quickly forget my atrocities and start talking to me a short while later even without the disguise.

I only got Legion assassins after me once, scripted after Nipton. Despite being vilified for the other 80 hours of gameplay, never again did I encounter more assassins. Wish I had.

I'm playing as an enemy of the NCR. Why on earth would I want to do quests for them?

To sabotage the outcomes. The game offers a few instances of playing spy.

My point is, is that there aren't enough Legion quests.
The NCR's the good guys of the game, so they got all the meat of it.

Um, No.

NCR is more evil then good.

At least CL is trying to "Purify" the land, But the main reason is they are trying to take New Ro- I mean New Vegas.

Sergeant Teddy jumps right out at me as not on that list...

Anyway the only way around this is to leave your friend outside of the strip, and wear NCR armor while in it.
Although always remember to take it back off before quick walking back to the Fort :sadvaultboy: .

RP wise you can start as an NCR "friendly" and once you see the bloated bureaucracy and the corruption from the inside and get tired of it all, you can join up with the Legion.

You know as well as I do the NCR is the good guys of this game.
You either haven't sided with the NCR yet or your in denial that Obsidian "messed up" by making "another good vs. evil"

But I'm never directed to them by the Legion. I have to find these instances independently by running around asking the NCR if they need assistance. No-one at the Fort ever says "we need you to go undercover and extricate our spy from McCarren" or whatever.

I could for a future character I suppose, though my current character's fate was set pretty much by the time he'd left NCRCF.

Certainly not 20. Sure, not all of the quests are listed on the wiki, but I have searched every nook and cranny of all of the Legion "settlements" and I have come across like 10.

good vs evil? bah. The NCR is a bloated top heavy and ineffecient bureacracy. At least Caesar's legion is honest about their goals, and Caesar is an intelligent man. the NCR will bring the world down far more than the legion.
