Forsworn Bow. For me, it has the perfect balance of "reload" speed, range and damage for my build. It's also the best looking bow in my opinion. Of course, it's not the best bow, but it's just my favorite.

Actually the Longbow is the best bow in the game. Look at this chart:

While most choose to upgrade the Longbow to more powerful bows made of different metals; the Longbow is actually one of the best bows in the game for several reasons. First it is the lightest and therefore the fastest. At the highest smithing level the Longbow will do more damage than a Daedric bow because you can invest the 5 smithing perk points into archery damage. This means you will get more damage per second earlier in the game and it will cost you less money to get there. This link http://i44.tinypic.com/e7cnrm.pngshows an Excel page on damage per second. The Longbow shows 11.06 dps and the Daedric 15.85. However this doesn't take into account the perk points required to get the full potential out of Daedric weapons. If we invest those same points into Archery damage we increase Longbow by 100% to 22.12 which is almost as much as Karliah's bow which is 22.39. Karliah's bow is Ebony however it is already enchanted meaning you still need 5 perk points to get this bow (one for Arcane Blacksmith) and you'll be stuck with those enchants.

All in all, Longbow is the most affordable, upgradeable, fast, quiet, and accessible bow in the game. It will require no smithing perks to get it's maximum potential (let alone smithing in heavy armors which many bow users don't use). IMHO Longbow is the best bow in the game.

I'm assuming this chart compares an unenchanted daedric bow vs the Nightingale bow?

I recently smithed both the Nightingale bow and a Daedric bow to legendary, and the daedric bow has considerably higher damage. (Which was dissapointing as I wanted to use Nightingale)
i believe its base damage changes depending on what level you found it.

The Nightingale bow doesn't use any of the smithing perks - so you won't be able to improve it as much as the bows which do (like the daedric one).

Yes but it frees up your points to invest elsewhere. You also are able to fire off more shots with the longbow by the time your enemy reaches mellee range so if you do invest in the level 100 archery skill its more likely you will be able to hold something at a distance with the longbow rather than the higher level bows.

If you prefer the stealth one shot kills than go with the daedric. If your playing on higher difficulty where mobs are more likely to survive the first couple hits I would go with the Longbow.

funny how ppl don't take something, because it does not give the best stats.

weird way to play an rpg. but well... most players just want to get the best of the best stuff

"As best I can"

Anyways back on topic, I'd really like to see a DPS chart take into consideration of a fully enchanted daedric bow (Just to see the DPS numbers)

There are two answers:
- For damage over a period of time, it's the glass bow. Light bows fire faster than heavy bows, making the glass bow the strongest bow in terms of damage over time. Also when you smith the damage of weapons tends to get closer and closer, glass will usually outclass daedric.
- Daedric and the highest version of the nightingale bow have the highest base damage for heavy bows, if you have the daedric smithing perk then daedric can be improved further than the nightingale bow can.

Heavy bows have greater range than light bows, the range of bows increases as you get better quality bows. Also arrow speed is quicker with heavy bows, so you have a better chance to hit. But light bows have a faster draw time, load time and damage over time.

So it depends on your playstyle. I happen to think the nightingale bow looks better than the daedric, but I never take any smithing perks past steel and arcane, so I very rarely find daedric bows.

If you have a good Smithing and Enchanting skill then it's a Daedric Bow, otherwise the best is the Nightingale Bow if gotten at level 46+

I hear you there.

Myself, I actually love the Ebony weapons best for their looks. Slick, contemporary, lethal. Just how my Assassin's like them.

Nocturne personally has the Smithing Skill to forge Dragon stuff, but I stick with upgraded Ebony weapons because that's just his style. And their colored black. Works much better with stealth than the "gleaming" weapons for every other weapon set.

At least that's the logic when I heavily RP my characters... which is all (100%) of the time.

;)

I tend to stick to the Ebony bow. Gets the job done without looking awkward on natural hunter clothes or lower-level armor.

I usually stick to Hunting or Imperial bow (for RP purposes) unless I do the TG quest line, then it's the Nightingale Bow. A hunting bow with the steel perk and some smithing will do a great deal of damage. You save on the perks required to get to Daedric also. And it's available from the get go.
