on fallout 3 the super mutant, cant remember his name, was clearly the best companion to have, the dog was naff...

Note in NV you can have two companions, one human and one non human.

Human list..

NCR or any anti legion run, Boone.

A great companion to boost your stats, great at range and you're willing to outfit right Rose of Shannon Cassidy.

Non hardcoe, a pure damage dealer and bullet sponge Veronica.

Best all rounder and great perk Raul.

One I've yet to try out Lily.

Non human...

ED-E, great perk, early and easy to get, however buggy and tends to act up.

Rex, his perk is actually quite good, especially combined with Boone's, less buggy than ED-E.
However tends to be more agressive than ED-E and is a melee character.

Raul... Period.

Boone is just boring, creepy and crap shot.

Raul and Cass are my favs. Raul when I need some backup and Cass because of her sense of humor. She keeps me fairly entertained, even though I know all her lines

Rex being a cyber dog, should have a ranged weapon. A preadator style shoulder mounted cannon anyone ?


Raul has the best personality. But dear god dose his vanquero outfit look stupid... I wish there was a black duster, with a bandana that would look awesome on him with the desperado cowboy hat.

I just give him a different armor with greater DT, but he sorta switches back and forth to his damn hat. >_<

I don't think there is a bad companion. ED-E maybe the only one, but that is because he can get stuck sometimes. Other than that, he/it is awesome.

I tend to cycle through them depending on where I am going, sometimes just for variety.

The only issue is, if you are using multiple companions, is there are some quests that you would want a certain companion with you while it is going on. During certain quests or places, an event will trigger an increase (or decrease) in how much the companion will like you. They have to like you enough to give you their side quests. So, keep that in mind as you choose a companion for a quest.

Of course, if you are going to use just one or two as you play the game, then all of this is moot.....

there isn't really a "best" companion. My first play-through (hardcoe) I had Veronica as my companion almost throughout the entire game. She did a lot of damage, but I ended up having to reload the game like crazy because she kept dying too often. The end battle was an absolute nightmare trying to keep her alive, so I ended up just telling her, and Ed-E, to wait and I took on the boss myself.

On my second play-through (non-hardcoe) I took on Arcade as my companion through out the game. He was a lot better than Veronica because he would kill most small-medium creatures before they even got to me (unless it was a horde of creatures). He was great right up to the end. When the finale battle started, he told me I was crazy for siding with the legion and took off (he just started walking towards the damn).

I have yet to try anyone else, but I get the feeling that any companion will make the game incredibly easy (especially on non-hardcoe mode).

thanks for replies, i'd like to get raul cuz he seems good, can someone give me some advice on where to go and what to do to get him? all i know is he is near black mountain (never been) and imprisoned...

i thought of a predator plasma cannon but it would be kinda cheesy and out of sync with the fall out *style* kinda be like ede pulling a tesla cannon out of his rear LO L ,although possible its got more bull then a texas long horn ;p

Go to Black Mountain, fight your way to the top (or sneak.) then go into the building he's in, read the terminal, unlock the other terminal, bust him out and recruit him.
You don't need to complete Crazy Crazy Crazy to recruit him.

You already know the answer. Head to Black Mountain and make sure your Radio is on.

Just know there are a few ways up there, some are more fun than others.

yeh i know i know about black mountain but i dont know where it is on the map is what i meant, but ive just seen on that link its east of goodsprings so i'll take a look

On your map, if you have Sloan marked, then look for the Squiggly Road just ever so slightly North and to the East of Sloan.

....but they can be so much fun!

Fast travel to Good springs.
Head down to where the powder gangers are.
Head north to a place called Sloan.
Head N East of there.
It's hard to miss.
Other ways to go up but fight and climb is the quickest / easiest.

The hat is the worst part.
Not as bad as veronicas hood, God I had to giver her a power armour helmat, but damn it looked terrible.

I gave Veronica and Cass a reinforced combat helmet. What was odd is they would switch to a recruit or decanius helmet if I put one in their inventory - they have lower DT.

Lilly is a power house, but more psycho than ED. I have her on passive and staying back. The moment I get a Caution warning she charges off and attacks. She has messed up more than one snipe set up. If you are a sneak sniper, don't take her. She is also very fast on the attack. I've set up two shots with the grenade rifle (long barrel mod) at range and she almost always gets hit by the second grenade. Again she is on passive and staying back.

OT-my favorite is ED despite his psychotic hatred of other bots, general bloodthirstyness, and occassionally getting stuck in low doorways.

i like arcade and ED-E but arcade glitched(says i have too many companions even if no one is with me).
Lilly is actually good with rifles but i tell her to melee.
Veronica isnt very good for me because I tend to kill most things before she can even get her weapons ready.
Rex is great, he finds enemies and kills them before i even see them.
Raul is a great shot with a great perk.

ED-E and Veronica are my favorites.

ED-E with the weapons upgrade is great and picks off most enemies at a distance. Veronica excels inside and anytime you are swarmed by enemies up close. Between the two, they cover anything I don't kill.

If I'm hunting Deathclaws I prefer just ED-E. No need to see Veronica try to melee a Deathclaw.

Boone is the best companion in the game and along with ED-E, make a great team and you can get them both early in the game. Both have great perks and their personal quests are both good.

My other favorites are Arcade, Cass and Raul. Arcade is fearless although he doesn't think so and his quest is great for what you can achieve with his help in the final battle. Cass has great dialogue and Raul is crazy funny and a great shot. HIs quest is not complicated. Cass's quest is not my favorite at all but she's great so I do it.

This. With Boone and Ed-E everything is dead ASAP. I could probably just walk around and let them kill everything.
Ed-E is really powerful once you upgrade his weapon with the followers!

Boone is great in combat but he's no fun at all. Cass is funny and a great shot. ED-E is like the perfect robot companion for a cowboy. I love that wild west music it plays from it's speakers everytime he engages in combat.

Haven't tried Rex yet, still trying to get him.
