Been playing Age of Conan since launch off and on....This game is quite likely to be my new other full-time job.

I really don't do much social media but I did create a Twitter account to follow this development. Hopefully I'll get in on some Beta testing.

I went to one of these sites just to see how bad it was written and have a chuckle. I kid you not, foreign or domestic... they are getting REALLY good at layout. The copy read like a real site, it had ads and even looked real with all the posts and links to the latest info/pics/vids. The bait was the beta keys being almost gone, "but keep checking back as more may become available". Nice touch.

Spooky times for the gullible amongst us.

That's fake, too. We get spammers posting things that shouldn't be on our Facebook page.

When Beta is announced, we'll have official details up on all our official sites -- ElderScrolls.com, Bethblog.com, gamesas.com, etc -- and you'll be hearing it from us, too.

the best phishing stuff i got are crappy written english (or even worse written in german) emails, with links in them.

but always i get an email like this, i will type 'elder scrolls online' in google, to get to the official website for news.
or i'lll simply write in here if i'm not sure... haven't got any beta invite in the last 5 years, .. i feel like eating a sweetrolltrain now ,_,

Yeah, we are in 2013 now and ESO is suppose to be released this year.

There has not been a peep about closed beta yet which worries me.

Skipping alpha beta and going straight for an open beta for an mmo such as this that spins off very different style of gameplay from which most elder scrolls fans are used to, is a catastrophic fatal mistake. Better to get thoughts from the public as early as possible regarding such matters, as everyone already knows every mmo under the sun has failed other than WoW and one of the main reasons that is, is because developers do not do early testing with their mmo with the people who actually matter. The fans. The reason WoW actually worked so well despite a bumpy release is because you thought you were playing a warcraft game on the ground with a single character with other people, that was the core idea, for warcraft fans that was very anticipated and I'm a firm believer that that is one of the main reasons the game spread as popular as it did, the fans of the franchise, and the idea was implemented flawlessly by blizzard. They got the same visuals right from the previous warcraft games, everything was spot on. I can already tell you the visuals in this ESO mmo do not look realistic or correct with the elder scrolls theme at all. They are stylized and it is obvious that they are. Already off to a bad start.

svck it up beth and release the beta as soon as possible, or it's just gonna be another failed mmo. Especially considering nobody internally in bethesda has vast mmo experience, its hard not to think of bioware's similar situation regarding this in relation to what happened with SWTOR (hiring outsiders to take control, yet in this case they're taking control of your own games name). Considering the elder scrolls games are an epic single player experience and most mmo mechanics are like oil and water in comparison to that type of gameplay, I suggest you release the beta even if it is still alpha to minimize as many casualties as possible. Elder scrolls games have a very unique style of gameplay and most mmo mechanics do not mingle with it. I don't want to see another mmo, let alone an elder scrolls game, go down in flames because of incompetent developers and failure to test early properly with the fans of the elder scrolls.

Once you start changing gameplay elements to "fit in" with a very different genre and style of gameplay is where everything starts to crumble apart for fans of the elder scrolls games. If it isn't done perfectly it will fail faster than SWTOR did, I KNOW it will, I can already feel it in my bones. I can already tell you that from the video the visuals aren't good enough. They don't look as realistic as skyrim, or as good as a modded skyrim at all. Not good enough and the style even looks slightly stylized in comparison. Also when I hear "Heroic" dungeons in an elder scrolls game I immediately facepalm and think WoW clone. If it doesn't have first-person real-time combat then automatically forget it. So many people play the elder scrolls in first person mode that it isn't even funny.

Now I know this topic is about phishing sites spreading beta keys but I'm gonna post this in the chance that a dev reads this and actually for one time the universe aligns and they actually freaking listen to reason.

Wow. Where to start?

Who said they are skipping the Alpha Beta? It's in Alpha right now. It will be going to Closed Beta next if that is what you mean by Alpha Beta... and then to Open Beta where we might get a shot at it. Might. Spins off a different style of gameplay? It's so close to Skyrim combat it isn't funny. This from members of the gaming industry press core who actually played the PRE-ALPHA version. That's the one before the Alpha and the Alpha Beta and the Alpha Beta Sigma... DRINK!

Every MMO has not failed, you just don't like them. Wow launch was "implemented flawlessly by blizzard"? Ah, no. As far as them being successful... after about a year of bug fixes and game changes, it was in part because they had great timing. People were tired of UO and EQ and there wasn't any other competition in 2005 worth noting. I personally liked it, so not bashing... just saying that by then people were hooked and off they went. And this... "They got the same visuals right from the previous warcraft games". What are you talking about? Warcraft 1 and 2, no way, and 3 maybe looked somewhat like WoW... but a stylized version. See what I did there?

The visuals for ESO have to be slightly watered down to allow for it to be multi-player and they still look great. Have you even seen the "Introduction to..." video from November at all? The landscapes are awesome, the structures awesome. Hundreds of people on screen at the same time in that PvP charge, that wasn't a cinematic, that was actual gameplay footage... just staged. Seen what it looks like in WoW when that happens, you know, in between the 2 or 3 FPS you are getting, that is if you haven't lagged out or crashed because of it?

You aren't even threatening the right company man. It's been almost 8 months now since the announcement... It's not Bethesda! It's Zenimax Online, a company created with a singular purpose... this game. They are both owned by Zenimax Media. Everyone on their team has MMO experience or they wouldn't have been hired to make an MMO game. Matt Firor from Dark Age of Camelot and Paul Sage from Ultima Online to name just two. There are now roughly 250 people working on this game, all professionals, hand picked for their specialized skill set.

Actually the rest of the second paragraph isn't worth it to me...

The term Heroic dungeon is used in many MMOs not just Wow. At least here... the heroic version continues the story from the regular version unlike WoW where it just has more mobs or more mobs with more hp that hit a little harder and drop slightly upgraded loot.

And there IS first person combat... Ya know, it's like you have done absolutely no research at all and are letting your "bones" make you write this post here. This post done in such a superior know it all tone, where you threaten and warn and shake your fist in the air frothing all over everything with incorrect information and really bad assumptions.

Listen to some reason yourself... you need to relax, for real. Skip this game, if only for your own health.

I received a confirmation email from norely@zenimaxonline.com via *i.can't.remember.the.name*media.com informing me that my beta online signup was recieved. It wasn't asking me to click on anything, but it seems to have been delivered by a proxy server. Investigation on a remote computer revealed there was nothing phishy about it ... though it did make me look twice when I saw it in my SPAM folder. I've deleted the email and added norely@zenimaxonline.com to my white-list ... but it just struck me as odd seeing a "via" attache. Maybe this isn't even note-worthy, but I haven't seen proxies handing out mail for this type of thing generally.

LOL!

But, I hear ya. This is one the loyal TES crowd would have loved to help develop!

But, keys will come out. In various stages. Even if we don't get into Beta, there will always be when it goes live!

I was playing Aion at the time and went to their website to find out an answer to a question I had. I was reading the various answers on the forums but could not find the exact answer. To make a long story short, I was on their own forums, clicked a link that was said to have the exact answer I was looking for. I went to a page that looked identical to the one I was on. I was just reading away and when I didn't see the answer to my question I tried to write it out on the forum.
The website said I had to sign in first to post anything. So I signed in and posted.
I then tried to log on to Aion and was told my information was not valid. After spending money on a phone call and waiting forever for help I finally got an agent and was told my account had been hacked and that the site I went to was the culprit.
IT was there own website. I would have thought that the forum moderators would check out each link etc to keep everyone "safe". I was wrong.
So I don't go to links and sign up for anything anymore.

Still be cautious. Don't take candy from strangers. In other words, now that beta is out, you will see more phishing scams than ever before. I wouldn't be surprised if people get scam mails about beta key giveaways.

The mods cannot check every link that people post up, the nearest they can get is to ban all posting of links, which would upset many people.

Clicking and signing up for things is something you should always be wary of (And is a reason to have different passwords on different accounts, so people cannot take your email/password combination and try accessing other things with it). When you get redirected to a website check which site you are actually on, it is written on the top of the page.
