1.8 Beta Update, Solsthiem DLC hints...Again

Post » Wed Oct 17, 2012 3:06 am

Wouldn't dragon mounts make Skyrim feel very small and petty as a world?
I can't see how that would make the game a better experience.

It's like,
"here is your room"
"wow, it's huge"
"here is a real ferrari car you can put in your room"
"wow a real ferrari, oh wait. i can only drive this in my room?"
"yes"
... ? I imagine it would become very dull very quickly.

Yup... an earlier thread had a post about somebody testing 'flying' through the world at dragon speed. It was quite fast and presumably dull.

Don't give them ideas!

As luck would have it, Uncle Crassius just announced his latest book, "the trusty draconic steed".

I guess I won't need to do the stalhrim weapons then :) I can stick with my version of them still tough ...I hope they will add spears and probably base my mod on that ultimate DLC as my Issgard mod is right north west of Solstheim ...

Exactly how, does dragon riding fit the lore? I'm just curious.

The Imperial Battlemages as well as the Akaviri Blades were dragonriders.

I'm cautious at best about the Dragon Riding, but it does give me some ideas I would LOVE to try...

eurogamer, ign, oxm, escapst, etc. have articles on it.

Robert Purches @ eurogamer is the only one, it seems, to have actually read the posts here.

Dragonriding? Meh. Who cares. I don't see my character ever getting involved in those sorts of shenanigans. But [censored] YEAH we're going to Solstheim! :bunny:

I think the only real use for the Dragon Mount, if there is one, is to get to Solesthiem.

Yeah, I can't ever see a Dragon Mount actually being used. If they did try and introduce it I'd be a little annoyed, I don't much fancy floating about in the sky. But I'm fairly sure we can't be certain a new DLC is Solesthiem for certain right? It just may be reference things?

Dragonriding isn't really going to happen- it's going to be like taking a siltstrider. If anything, it'll be a super short animation cut scene that you can't control.

if a non Dragonborn character can't visit the island then that destroys about all replay value

Even if it's not really feasible, you have to admit, buzzing the towns you don't like would be awesome.
I mean, Maven Black-Briar would definitely have to show a little respect after I set her house on fire from above for the twentieth time. See how long that fortune of hers lasts after she's spent it on on new building supports.
And even then if she fireproofs it, I'll just get a different dragon. Make winter come early to Riften and coat the whole thing in ice.

Every character you create in Skyrim is dragonborn, whether you want to roleplay that way or not...just as every character you made in Morrowind was the Nerevarine from birth...

Maybe dragon mounts are another mean of fast travel (ie from Solstheim to mainland).

The game was not made with levitation/flying in mind. How are they going to cope with closed cities? This is but a glaring example of why flying cannot be implemented into current Skyrim but therenarr also some other technical aspects...

I'm hoping that 'Dragon Riding' is misleading and doesn't actually indicate that we'll be able to do it whenever we want.

Bethesda needs to take a page from From software and Dark Souls when it comes to dealing with player feedback that doesn't mesh well with the game world: When Dark Souls players begged for Voice Chat, From added it in the DLC... in the form of 5 wooden orbs that only say one word and must be used from the inventory. It was hilariously trollish.

It would svck if you couldn't swim over, ala Morrowind.
