Big Thanks to mardoxx for finding this

"Next DLC will be called Dragonborn. It is set in Solstheim. Main locations are Raven Rock, Miraak Temple, Castle Karstaag and Telvanni Tower. You will might be able to ride dragons. Also, new armor types, possibly horse (?) Bomemold, Chitin, Nordic and Stalhrim.

There are references to new creatures too, Riekling, Scrib (lol), Netch.. etc

PS3 DLC will come soon and so will mounted spell casting.

This could, of cause, be an elaborate troll on Bethesda's part! The naming in Translate_*.txt is correct though, http://tsdr.uspto.go...pe=statusSearch

HMDaedraCharacter.hkx

Character00 and Character01? Also Apo* and Benthic* if that means anything to anyone?

Idle animations IdleChiselStandingWipeBrow, IdleChiselKneelingWiggle, etc

MagicMountedBehavior.hkx --

Someone with more experience with CK games can probably extract more information.

I don't say that any want who wants dragon riding is a kid. I said that such actions from Betheseda and Skyrim itself shows that the target group are also kids, and people who don't think anything about balacing and astthetic/story aspect and just say "WTF....what do you guys have, for problems Dragon RIiding....awesome!!!!!" ... i suspect I don't be wrong if I suppose that this are the younger ones.. mostly?

Well it's simply the thing for me that Betheseda implement things that make no sense for the game or the story, but are "da [censored] awesome!!!" and all the people crying about... I don't like when game developers do that, the best games are from people that have a clearly vision, and don't implement just the things most people on Twitter want....

So, I hope you understand what I mean.

Yea I do. Maybe I can't see it because I'm still a teen (19). I would think that someone of larger years would enjoy escaping the mundane routines of life with a little dragon flying, but I guess not.

The DragonMountedMRhSolo_ShieldOrTorch.txt thing makes me laugh. I can't imagine a torch would do much good on the back of a dragon. I don't think the light would emanate far enough for you to really see any better. You'd think that just having the dragon spew out a fire ball would be more useful.

Called it! Although most of us can say that I guess. Solstheim was quite inevitable for DLC. It's probably the most interesting location since it's full of Dunmer fugitives. I'm not that excited about the dragons, but Solstheim can only be great. Since I read the books I wanted to learn more about the Red Year, vanilla Skyrim didn't satisfy me that much.

If wanting something that happens to be well liked by others means that I'm jumping on the band wagon, then so be it. I'm not one for juming on the hipster bandwagon and disliking things because its mainstream.

Dragon Riding fits in fine with the lore and the general theme.
I don't see anything wrong with the idea of Dragon Riding in general. Those TV Tropes articles are too often written without a hint of imagination.

I agree that it fits in with the lore and the theme, but that doesn't take away from my opinion that it's cliché and overused. Most fantasy literature I've read and games I've played that included it felt bland and copy-pasted, and I didn't like that at all. I included the link to TV tropes merely as an easy and handy way of viewing a ton of examples from all kinds of media, I most most definately did not intend to quote it as an argument to 'prove my point' (just so we're clear on this).

I'm very much a fan of dark and gritty fantasy with a strong dose of 'realism' in it (that is to say that the fantasy is believable within the artificial boundaries set in-world). I can also enjoy lighter-hearted fantasy, just as long as it's (again) believable. What I don't like is fantasy where stuff is pulled from thin air, where the 'suspension of (dis-)belief' is stretched too thin (like 'bread spread over too much butter', to paraphrase a certain admirable hobbit).

That being said, there are a couple of books that managed to pull it off, such as the 'Dragonrider from Pern' series from Anne McCaffrey (one of the most important trendsetters, in fact). Unfortunately many subsequent books and games rarely managed to pull it off to the same extent. I really hope that's not the case here.

The fact that dragon mounts fits in with the lore and the general theme does do something to dissuade me from this fear (even if I'm still uneasy with the whole fantasy concept of riding dragons), I only hope they manage to pull it off.

The dragons in Skyrim are pretty much like wyverns too.

You're absolutely right! In light of what SpaceMarine88 wrote (Akaviri Blades being Dragon Riders, quote beneath) and the existance of an 'order' of Dragon Riders from Battlespire one wonders what the possible link to the Dov might be. Perhaps this will be explored more in detail with the DLC?

Not only that, the original Akaviri Blades were not only Dragon Hunters, the old lore states that they were Dragon Riders.

That's very interesting. I really hope they tie the hypothetical DLC (with dragon riding) in with the current lore.

He did state a reason, but he also blamed age, which is annoying. And why do people assume you either have dragon riding or deep storytelling? They have nothing to do with eachother.

It's mostly a matter of taste and personal opinion. Age does factor into this, as your taste and opinions change simply because you grow older and gain more experience in life. Those changes (in taste and opinion) aren't necessarily for the better, though, and age is hardly the decisive factor. I know fourty-year-olds whose general behaviour would qualify very much as 'childish' (not to mention petty) and I know fourteen-year-olds that have a very mature and wizened outlook on life. As such, using age as an argument in favour for or against something seems like a bit of a cop-out (just my opinion). After all, some of the most fun times we had were as a kid, and just because a kid might enjoy something does not necessarily make it bad.

I also agree that dragon riding needn't necessarily exclude deep (I'd even settle for "proper") storytelling. I'm really hoping they'll tie the previous lore in with this. That would silence most of my concerns.

You misunderstood. I was just jumping on the *cough*Say something*cough* band wagon. It seemed like it was more fun than it actually was though. Kind of a let down really.

I wasn't trying to slight you or anything like that.

Pfft. I'm 37, and one of the biggest disappointments in the game for me was when the screen blacked out after I mounted Odahviing.

Riding a dragon would be awesome, AND make sense story-wise. :D

Anyway, Solstheim sounds interesting, especially since I loved Morrowind but never bought the expansions.

Dragon flying-mount.. i dont think that would work very well. It would make the world feel very small. Its the type of thing that sounds cool, and is cool for a few minutes, but then over time it svcks the fun out of other aspects of the game.

Only way i see it working is if they made some restrictions on it. Like, if they made it a dragonshout, you summon a dragon-mount, that will let you fly for a certain amount of time before leaving, and then add a long cooldown to it. Then perhaps i would use it, but if it was without restriction i think it would be negative.

True, it could ruin exploration if you can just fly to destinations that you cant fast travel to..

i think what Bethesda should do next is let us be able to be skyrims version of the dark lord and have minions that do our dirty deeds, and give us the ability to shoot lasers out of our eyes. Then we should be able to fly out into space and fly around in an alien spacecraft while we transorm into alien super soldiers that are basically unstoppable. Yeah, that will please the masses, why not.

Apart from the (im-)practicalities of fast-travelling everywhere on the back of a dragon mount, I would be slightly more concerned about the maintenance of such a magnificent steed. After all, a horse can be fed oats, apples etc. - but what are you going to feed a full-sized dragon? Sounds like you're going to be needing a lot of cattle...

Nothing. They cant die from starvation (assumption, since they dont die from age and would outlast mortals), but they could get their own food while we're gone. Chomping on bandits and such while I'm off stomping Thalmor in the snow, etc.

Yeah, that was a major lack of payoff.

Spoiler
I'm partial to the idea of militarizing the Dov, riding them or not. I think it would be nice to go and locate dragons who didn't want to follow Alduin, but didn't submit to Paarthurnax's Way of the Voice either. You could conscript them into your own military force and have them fight with you in exchange for protection.

Then, in TES VI, if we do end up having to go to war with the Thalmor, and we're doing it overtly (rather than using subterfuge and other, more intersting plans), we could go and try and get the dragons to join us to make the fighting easier.
