1.8 BetaSolstheim DLC discussion Thread - #21

Post » Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:04 pm

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raven_Rock, Miraak Temple, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Castle_Karstaag and a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Telvanni_Tower (N.B.: Not the Telvanni Tower, but a Telvanni tower).
There will be some new armor types, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bonemold, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raw_Stalhrim each having heavy and light classifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim and Nordic.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures/automotons, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Riekling#Riekling, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Scrib#Scrib, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Netch#Netch, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Boar#Boar, Benthic Lurker, Ballista Centurion, and something with an internal name of HMDaedra, quite possibly referring to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora since it lists his plane of oblivion, Apocrypha. You will also be able to ride dragons and be in combat while mounted on one.

http://i.imgur.com/gF1hJ.png is what the quest header for Dragonborn Quests will look like, and http://i.imgur.com/AJu91.png is what the compass markers look like for the new locations.
From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

There will be at least two new tracked stats: Dragonborn Quests Completed, and Stalhrim Items Crafted

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.
The Telvanni tower has float up and down animations, so no levitation it seems.
Dragon riding will take place in its own world space

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

---

Misinformation:
Weapon degrading -- There's nothing to indicate this is added, that isn't to say it can't/won't be added however. There was just no "new" information in this update. The degradation stuff seen previously has all been renemants from previous CK games (Fallout)

Other stuff that I can't put my finger on or give intelligent guesses about because of lack of information
Miraak death animation, Chieftain animations, Chisel animations (perhaps new crafting station for the new armor.. doubt it though), Storn Death Reaction animation & Storn Suit Stages, H2H and H2H_AttackBash, H2H_Equip, H2H_Unequip - Not necessarily Hand to Hand, but it might be. Frea, Pray, StonePickUp, KillMoveDLC02RipHeartOut, TreeAmbush
There also seem to be a lot more animation files for running with weapons. No idea why.
warven Ballista -- Possibly a new trap? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dwemer_Ballista#Dwemer_Ballista

All of the above is speculation over new strings found in the files from the 1.8 update, and should not be treated as facts or as any proof that any of it will even make it into the game! (but you all already knew that, didn't you!... Didn't you?) They were found by comparing 1.7.7.0 files with those in 1.8.145.0.

You want proof, YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE PROOF!!!! (I'll add proof later, in the mean time, look at these posts: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=core&module=search§ion=search&do=search&fromsearch=1)

Random idea... The Miraak Temple... Miraak means something about alliance in the dragon language, right? So that might be something to do with a Dragon Priest, or Lich... Right? What if some powerful mage (Like Divarth Fyr.. Can't spell his name) maybe did something in the library within Herma-Mora's realm? Maybe he got something powerful and maybe brought back someone who wants revenge on the Empire? Someone who might've been a Lich and his 'life' is in the temple, and he is allying himself with dragons? Maybe he wants to kill the Last Dragonborn (us) because he counts you as a threat, and possible 'Emperor' for the Empire?

I hope someone knows who I am talking about... Someone who was an enemy of the Empire, hated the Emperor, and had a bunch of creatures as allies.

Oh well, than let's continue here.

Hircine is the Daedric Prince of the Hunt and father of the Werebeast. His point is normally the thrill of the hunt, to bless hunters, help werebeasts (Or kill those that went against him), etc... That sort of stuff...

That question doesn't fit well with Hircine... (Fits better with Sheogorath)

It was rhetorical. I think creating a bloodmoon illusion to make a little hunt more interesting fits very well with his style.

Possible. Nice story, but we can only wait to find out what Bethesda has in mind.
I think that Miraak is a Dragonpriest, too. Sounds reasonable.

The guy I'm talking about isn't from Morrowind unless you are talking about Divarth Fyr, who I mentioned in my idea. (I kinda do think he might just come back since he can live that long easily...)

Mir = allegiance
Aak = guide

That actually supports my idea even more... The guy I am thinking about was like a guide for the Emperor in the past before his evil deeds... Maybe the Miraak part would be explaining who he was?

Not MW related? Hrm, I'm at a loss unless you're talking about Mehrunes Dagon. Highly doubt that, especially not with reference to Hermaeus Mora already.

Now you are getting somewhere (Tbh, he is my favorite villain).

~Edit~

It make sense...

If Jagar Tharn comes back as a Dragon Priest, or Lich again.. His name might be Miraak (He was allied to the Emperor and a guide, right?).. Also the DLC's name is Dragonborn so it has to be surrounded on the character some-how... And Jagar Tharn might be it.. He wanting to kill us cause we are the Dragonborn (A possible Emperor in his eyes)..

Herma-Mora's Realm could be used to bring him back OR could be used to figure out where a long lost artifact is that we will need to defeat him.. OR could be used for us to learn about his past.. You know?

All of this can be connected... And we can use "Divarth Fyr" of the Telv Tower to get to HM's realm..

Jagar Tharn, but at first I thought you meant the Camoran Usurper.

Are we talking about Jagar Tharn, Dagoth Ur, or some other BAMF? Also, Miraak REALLY sounds like a Dragon Priest. Which means that I might get my clutches on a really powerful mask. Or maybe he guides the Dragonborn on his journey and makes him completely awesome?
