1.8 BetaSolstheim DLC discussion Thread - #25

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raven_Rock, Miraak Temple, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Castle_Karstaag and a Telvanni tower (N.B.: Not the Telvanni Tower seen in Morrowind in Vivec, but http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tel_Uvirith).
There will be some new armor types, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bonemold, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raw_Stalhrim each having heavy and light classifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim and Nordic.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures/automotons, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Riekling#Riekling, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Scrib#Scrib, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Netch#Netch, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Boar#Boar, Benthic Lurker, Ballista Centurion, and something with an internal name of HMDaedra, quite possibly referring to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora since it lists his plane of oblivion, Apocrypha. You will also be able to ride dragons and be in combat while mounted on one.

From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

There will be at least two new tracked stats: Dragonborn Quests Completed, and Stalhrim Items Crafted

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.
The Telvanni tower has float up and down animations, so no levitation it seems.
Dragon riding will take place in its own world space

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

Misinformation:
Weapon degrading -- There's nothing to indicate this is added, that isn't to say it can't/won't be added however. There was just no "new" information in this update. The degradation stuff seen previously has all been renemants from previous CK games (Fallout)
H2H stuff, That was my diff program messing up, sorry :)
Release dates -- No one but Bethesda knows!

Other stuff that I can't put my finger on or give intelligent guesses about because of lack of information
Miraak death animation, Chieftain animations, Chisel animations (perhaps new crafting station for the new armor.. doubt it though), Storn Death Reaction animation & Storn Suit Stages, Frea, Pray, StonePickUp, KillMoveDLC02RipHeartOut, TreeAmbush
There also seem to be a lot more animation files for running with weapons. No idea why.

All of the above is speculation over new strings found in the files from the 1.8 update, and should not be treated as facts or as any proof that any of it will even make it into the game! (but you all already knew that, didn't you!... Didn't you?) They were found by comparing 1.7.7.0 files with those in 1.8.145.0. The update to the Beta (i.e. 1.8.151.0) gave no new information.

Didn't mean to post this in the old one after you opened up this one. But I'll repost it here so people don't have to jump back and forth between threads for a conversation.

It's entirely possible that he isn't as highly ranked as the Skyrim-based ones, he might have rebelled against the establishment - or going by what Miraak translates too, he might have served as a teacher of sorts (Allegiance guide can certainly be interpreted that way).


If he had rebelled, I think there'd be a destroyed bust to indicate his fall from grace.

For the record, I'm not opposed to there being new dragon priests, I just don't want this one to be the same as all the others, with a hand-wave explanation of "Oh, we forgot about him" or something else that indicates it was done without a lot of thought put into it.

I'd be more than happy if this character was a living, breathing person in a renewed Dragon Cult, offering you the chance to join them to gain more power in your Thu'um than what you have now or something like that.

I think there are ways of implementing a new Dragon Priest, but not if he's from the same time period as his counterparts. I think it would be much better if he was part of a new revival of the Dragon Cult or from an entirely separate group that also studied the Thu'um. More dragons than Paarthurnax survived the purges after Alduin fell, and it's very possible that one of them was able to create a new band of followers for them to rule over.

On dates... dunno if this pertinent, or maybe just someone missed it...

I posted a congrats on the bethblog, and appended it with a "sounds like a great time for an announcement... please" earlier this afternoon. I've been checking the blog for that announcement, no dice, but did notice something funny. My post hasn't been approved as yet, even though other posts that cam after were, including disparaging ones... hmm...

On dates... dunno if this pertinent, or maybe just someone missed it...

I posted a congrats on the bethblog, and appended it with a "sounds like a great time for an announcement... please" earlier this afternoon. I've been checking the blog for that announcement, no dice, but did notice something funny. My post hasn't been approved as yet, even though other posts that cam after were, including disparaging ones... hmm...

What can that mean?

It would be too much like the Vampire Lords we got in DG. I wouldnt be a fan. But maybe as an end game type thing? Hmm...

I am trying not to hype myself, telling myself "11/11/12 for anything concrete is quite likely... wait for that".
But the TES fan in me cries every day without an announcement to be honest... :blush:

Combine it with equilibrium and you have a semi-consistent summon. (Once a day, of course.)

I would absolutely LOVE a DLC that allows a mage to become a lich/lichlord! Haven't seen that yet, that I can recall, in any RPG, ever. Definitely would be an awesome expansion, maybe one with 3 new guild lines, warrior, mage, and thief.

Functionally, isn't the vampire lord just a reskinned Dragon Priest with upgraded abilities? Don't get me wrong, I'd like to become a lich as well, but I think the vampire lord has gotten pretty close to that. And honestly, vampirism and lichdom seem almost the same, minus a phylactery and the decay.

Being a lich is more than just being an "immortal" undead. Vampire Lords aren't really mages, they just have special powers that mimic magic. IOW, just because they can use vampire "magic" doesn't mean they necessarily have conventional spell abilities. You also have to transform into the Vampire Lord, and have the luxury of transforming back again, but you also suffer the penalties. The lich retains all of its human abilities, but can not transform back again. The lich also commands lesser undead, meaning a possible (small at least) draugr army at your disposal. But you'd also become something of an outcast, meaning post-lich you'd need a means of either disguise or an engaging questline passing from this realm/plane to other realms/planes. It would be too much work for a standalone pack that would only interest mages, hence, a guilds pack, with quest lines for each, not necessarily tied together in any way. Perhaps something to do with Nocturnal, to tie thieves and mages, then just have to worry about a compelling reason to get warriors involved.

If he had rebelled, I think there'd be a destroyed bust to indicate his fall from grace.

For the record, I'm not opposed to there being new dragon priests, I just don't want this one to be the same as all the others, with a hand-wave explanation of "Oh, we forgot about him" or something else that indicates it was done without a lot of thought put into it.

I'd be more than happy if this character was a living, breathing person in a renewed Dragon Cult, offering you the chance to join them to gain more power in your Thu'um than what you have now or something like that.

I think there are ways of implementing a new Dragon Priest, but not if he's from the same time period as his counterparts. I think it would be much better if he was part of a new revival of the Dragon Cult or from an entirely separate group that also studied the Thu'um. More dragons than Paarthurnax survived the purges after Alduin fell, and it's very possible that one of them was able to create a new band of followers for them to rule over.

Well, I was operating on the assumption that Miraak was not equal (my fault for not mentioning it) as we already know (or can read between the lines) that there were lesser Dragon Priests (unnamed in this case) as well as the more prominent ones we encounter. It's only a theory anyway that Miraak might be a Dragon Priest.

I highly doubt we will be seeing the Heart of Lorkhan. Red Mountain aka Red Tower is deactivated as a result it's stone, the Heart of Lorkhan, being destroyed. Alduin's return is the result of the deactivating of all Towers minus the Adamntine Tower, as its stone is convention itself, so the return of the Heart of Lorkhan would make little sense lore-wise. Hmmmm. What if the Thalmor have really been around since the Merethic Era and through their intriguing and machinations have masterminded the deactivating of the Towers? Considering their goals it sounds like something they might do, though it might sound far fetched.
