Bethesda bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?

He was obviously talking about Rouge Warrior.
If you're talking about Ratslayer's post, Rogue Warrior was not a series, set in a radioactive hell, or made by Bethesda.

Neither was Wet.

And it is standard to forget that the [censored] up, that was Rogue Warrior, even exists.

I think there really needs to be some kind of branding change so that people stop getting Bethesda (Softworks) confused with Bethesda (Game Studios).

Well, if the game has open PVP like I want, then you can just cap them and move on!
I hope it has EVE Online-style PVP, you can kill anyone anywhere, but if you do it in a high-security area, don't expect to survive the police response.

So If Bethesda bough Stalker, why would THEY work on it. They have their flagships already, Fallout - TES

I dunno what to think of this really. I only recently began playing Shadow of Chernobyl, and so far I am impressed. With the company going out of business or whatever happened though, it's, in my opinion, better for Bethesda to buy it and (Hopefully) make a decent game then for us to never get another S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title again.

The thing is, which studio would make it? Bethesda Game Studios is already busy enough with TES and FO. So it would have to be one of the other developers under Bethesda Softworks, and they all seem to be very busy. I don't believe the rumour that Bethesda bought the IP for a moment, but I'd still like to say that I don't think 'a game' is by default better than 'no game'. A dead franchise is just that, it was fun while it lasted and in the case of Stalker it ended on a high note.

clarifications because STALKER is the best thing ever and all this misinformation bothers me immensely

1) Vostok split off from GSC in much the same way 4A Games split off from GSC, and for much the same reason - because Sergey Grygorovich is an insufferable [censored] who blows money on pointless [censored] and then goes WELL I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS ANYMORE IT PROBABLY WON'T SELL and drives off into the frigid Ukrainian winter in his Ferrari to one of his four mansions. (that's not an exaggeration he owns a Ferrari and multiple mansions mostly purchased with STALKER's profits).

2) IF Bethesda's bought the rights, which seems incredibly unlikely given both GSC's denial and the fact that the site the news itself comes from says "the above statement isn't considered an official statement and we'll correct it if necessary", i would assume they'd have Vostok develop the actual game, considering it's like halfway done by this point anyway and Bethesda's already developing its own post-apocalyptic FPS/RPG.

i have faith that if this turns out to be more than [censored] Bethesda's role will be purely as a publisher, and as a publisher they're pretty good at not interfering in a game's development cycle and letting the developer do whatever (for better or for worse). they'd never develop a STALKER game on their own; switching between two massive open-world franchises is more than enough, especially when STALKER and Fallout are already pretty similar at the core.

3) if Bethesda does get STALKER and Vostok is on board as a developer and by some miracle THQ manages to die at about the same time, there is a good chance that 4A and Vostok will merge or at least work together once again for STALKER 2 and it'll be the best thing ever.

Andriy Prokhorov, currently at 4A, was largely responsible for Shadow of Chernobyl's atmosphere but left GSC in 2006, which is why Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat were both noticeably less grey and why Metro, while not really a very good game, had such incredible atmosphere about it, and getting him on board for STALKER 2 would be a godsend.

Interesting Wall of Text?

Exactly, probably best to have it end with CoP. The modding community will carry the series on for a while still. http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009 should have its 2012 edition land at some point, and there's http://www.moddb.com/mods/lost-alpha and all sorts of other mods which turn SoC or CoP into practically a new game.

Never play the STALKER Complete mods, its filled with stolen content from other mods and is generally not good.

Disagreed. It adds a lot to the game. If it takes stuff from other mods it's none of my concern.

And where did you get this information from? The Complete mods are incredibly poplular, and I've never heard this before.

On topic, I would be incredibly angry if this turned our to be true. I'm hopeful because if GSC's denial, but I don't want Bethesda to touch STALKER. I love TES and F3, but STALKER has an element of love and depth put into it that Bethesda's recent games haven't had. If Bethesda didn't outright kill the series off, they would certainly destroy what made it special.

From mod makers who are pissed that the maker of the Complete mods stole textures and other things from their mods without asking, and when they bring it up he denies it or just ignores them.

Could we get a link to one of these complaints? This seems highly unlikely to me.

I've been looking but I can't seem to find it, from some links it looks like the guy who made those mods FINALLY credited people.

but still I don't think they are very good mods, if you want a good Call of Pripyat mod use Redux.

I just made a thread about this, it would be quite smart if Bethesda took up the Stalker franchise, for starters it already has a big worldwide fanbase, secondly, it is right down their alley, RPG action FPS game in a big open world! Much easier taking over a franchise that already has a good following, with STALKER 2 being so close to release Bethesda could finish it off, release it on all platforms as intended, and reap the rewards and profits and have a new world-wide audience thankful and waiting for the next STALKER saga!

FO3 was set in a similar mould but STALKER takes it a step further with Factions and Bandits as well as the standard mutant creatures! It would make financial sense too Bethesda have a great track record, a great team I am sure they would do the STALKER franchise justice.

Like my above post it would make financial sense if Bethesda took over the STALKER franchise and completed STALKER 2 which was close to completion, the fanbase is already there and ready for the taking, why wouldn't they be interested? There is alot more room for the franchise to grow and its right down Bethesda's alley, there is no need for it to die because the development team had a falling out with management, the series is too good and too popular for that!

Bethesda buying STALKER would be as good as EA or Activision buying STALKER. The only other people who could continue STALKER without killing it would be the people who made the first game. I say THQ should be the ones getting STALKER (since they published the first game).

well to Bethesda's credit they are great at making RPG's and Big-Opened worlds, better than Activision or EA at least :) THQ would be a great idea if they can continue on the high standard especially COP. I think the problem is the previous Stalker team wanted to go MMO whereas the management didn't, hence why they are making Suvarium with Vostok games, MMO FPS anyone? I would much prefer Stalker to stay Single Player with the chance of Co-Op play maybe thanks :)
