Bethesda Forums are very friendly - Bioware not so much.

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 10:39 pm

I've been wanting to find out for quite a while now how Bethesda Forum members feel about the Bioware Forum and other forums as well. My observation has been this: I joined here in either late 2008 or early 2009 - when I started playing Fallout 3 - and I immediately noticed that the general feeling on the boards is a friendly one. I'm always glad when I'm playing a Bethesda game because I know that I will get awesome and friendly support here.

Having said that, I joined the Bioware forum back in 2010 because I was trying to learn about Mass Effect....right away the forum felt cold and snobbish. People came off as elitists and were not helpful. Well when I recently started playing Dragon Age: Origins I went back to Bioware anyway to try and get help....don't get me wrong there were a few nice people....but a lot of them were pretty rude. I've never understood why there is a difference in forums, but there is. Concerning DAO, the Bioware members pointed out that the game was two years old and what did I expect. Then I thought: I could go to the Bethesda Fallout 3 forum right now and post a question and get friendly help right away. I just don't get it. Do you think the snobby attitude at Bioware is caused by the corporation? Or perhaps by the people that play their games. It's an interesting observation to me though. I wish all forums were as friendly as the Bethesda Forums, but for me that has not been the case.

Has anybody experienced what I'm describing here or no? Gardenia

I joined the Bioware forums when DAO came out. I thought it would be nice but immediately that place proved to be not my kind of place. After the community manager BLOCKED ME WITHOUT TELLING ME WHY I WAS PERMA-BANNED, I forgot about that place. Just ask me for any story about the forums. I agree these forums are WAY better and helpful than the Bioware forums.

P.S. While I agree with your post, I don't think you can post threads criticizing other forums. Mods tell me if what I posted is allowed since I don't want another warning.

I like this forum because the people are smarter than most - if not all - other forums I've gone to, with proper grammar to boot. I just can't find another forum like it. Plus I love Beth games, so the taste in games here is, to me, ideal. :D

Love you BGSF!

I completely agree. The rules are really what keep this place tame and less childish. I've never seen another forum like it and it doesn't bother me because I love most of the games they publish/develop.

These are the best forums. Simple as that. It's a fact, not an opinion.

BioWare forums were fine for me, but I get more help on stuff here. And these forums have a much better layout/design. Although I do like the poll section on the BioWare forums.

I've never really spent much time at the Bioware forums. What little time I have spent there wasnt particularly enjoyable or interesting.

Plus, these forums let you criticise Bethesda's games if you so wish. Express a negative opinion on Bioware's forums though and you're likely to get banned and have access to your games taken away.

Hooray for (relatively) free speech.

I'm really only here now because of the Lore Forum and ponies.

Otherwise, there is two big things that keeps everyone in-line, rules that are not tryannical but also keep certain anger inducing subjects (religion, politics, etc), and mods who enforce the rules

Bethesda Forums is the only gaming forum I use because the Moderators are incredibly helpful and the people are friendly. Occasionally there's a bad apple here and there, but that's to be expected.

I love this forum for Bethesda's games and atmosphere here :). The rules are fair and encourage friendly forum etiquette. The Mods are nice and friendly. I've been to some other nice forums as well, but gamesas Forums is my favorite.

I honestly get the feeling that I could post a question for help in, off topic/community discussion here at Bethesda Forums, about Mass Effect or Dragon Age and get more help from the members here that have played those games than I could at Bioware - even the mods jump in every now and then and add some very useful stuff. Bethesda is smart and the bomb! I'm very happy to find out it wasn't only me that had negative experiences at Bioware. I thought it was me, like maybe I had a chip on my shoulder....but I knew I didn't.

OP, I love these forums, and I'm glad you do too. This was the first forum I ever joined, and it set the bar for me, it seriously did. We do have an awesome community. That said, I have to ask that we not call out specific forums for not being as nice as this one. Just creates bad blood and negativity, and it's against the rules anyway. Leave your issues with other forums at the door and just enjoy this one. :)

Oh the irony, look at the topic below or above this one. The sixy one. Sorry for the embarassment. Other than some turbulence now and then it's a pretty clean forum and safe haven form the wastes.

This forum is great, we've got awesome and intelligent members and moderators, and the general tone on these boards are very welcoming and kind.

Also the BGSF bronies are a huge reason why I'm here.

Before the Bethesda forums, I was a member at the Serebii Pokemon forums (This is around 2003, the good ol' days of the 3rd Gen.) and they were just as good as these forums. How? Rules.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bethesda forums is the best kept forum I have been on since Serebii while others are a little rusty in some spots.

Of course, it is all about how once precieves a forum, TBH.

I like Serebii as well, though I only go there for game info :P

It could also be the sections of the forums your in. With the exception of maybe Skyrim General, most of the subforums are pretty well behaved.

If only I could remember my old account info, I wouldn't mind logging back in over there just to say hi to some old friends.

Memories

I find the amount of drooling over FemSheps quite annoying.

I did have some good conversations going there when I bothered, but I found the forums too passive. Most users were, and are, busy in the Mass Effect 3 subforums repeating the same bull over and over again day after day.

It's definitely not the worst forum I've been to. Nexus at least used to be worse but its moderation seems to have gotten softer.

I blame the search engine. If you had to put up with such a lousy engine that only examined the topic title while never bothering to find matches in any actual posts or usernames, you'd turn into a jerkwad too!

Considering the horror stories I've heard about people's forum accounts being linked to their Bioware game accounts, with some of them in the past having lost access to their games after a forum ban, I'd be scared to post there.

Overall this forum is very laidback, the moderators too. Maybe that opinion will change as I dive deeper into the moderator board, but we'll see.

The SWTOR forums are even worse than the WoW forums, and that's saying something.

This is the only Forum I have joined, I like it too, even if the Fallout section is dying down and I need to creep into CD for my daily dose :)
I've looked at other Forums and seen the lack of athourity there so I'm glad this one is well taken care of by the mods :user:
