Bethesda's Harsh Crackdown

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:13 pm

I am not sure why Bethesda is cracking down so hard on leaked intro footage

Todd Howard has said time and again that at the beginning of the game you are a prisoner going to your execution.

There is nothing else to the footage....except that it showed off some of the awesomeness Bethesda should be proud of

The main quest is still a mystery.

How you know you are dragonborn is a mystery

Where you meet Esbern is a mystery

Basically we really do not know much more than Todd Howard has made known to the world already

So why the harsh clampdown??

What is harsh about it?

They even made a separate forum where we can discuss the leaks

Because this is the standard reaction for any video game studio.

Because the footage looks like crap, being a compressed poor-quality 480p capture of Xbox footage, and it gives a poor impression of the game. They don't want it misrepresented before release.

They sent copies to reviewers a few days ago.

They're going to need a full time internet cop to quell this.

TONS of copies going out all over to previewers, some of these not being of the uttermost sincere and serious kind.
Also, their significant others, children, friends, allowed to play, of course...them not being bound by any sort of deal
or agreement with anyone else..and to be perfectly honest, this close, I don't think they care on damn bit anyways.

Well, the reason being is that the reveiwers have likely made a promise to NOT upload the game before the world-wide release of Skyrim.

Even though the footage doesn't show anything more than how we escape, it's still considered spoilers and I doubt that's what Bethesda wants.

This, reviewers are under NDA not to reveal details before 11-11-11, illegal footage is illegal footage, personally I thought the moderators were quite lenient by allowing that one particular thread to go on so long.

Which is fair to say the least, considering the amount of nerd rage Skyrim's 'bad graphics' has already generated.

Yea, I've noticed that "meme" has already started.

It was amazing how fast some of those videos were taken down. I left one up to buffer, listened to a few songs then BAM! Zenimax media complaint.

If you think this crackdown is bad, you should've seen the how the Bioware forums acted when leaks revealed DA2 was a terrible game. That wasn't a fun time :shocking:

I knew these would go down quick, so I recorded them.

Internet police has an APB out on these videos. You can still check em out though. I wonder how they do it exactly, 20 sweaty dudes in a dimly lit room trolling for spoilers?

You know what's funny... as they are taken down, people are posting saved copies which will then get re-encoded, taken down, and replaced by saved copies that will get re-encoded again... I predict that by next week, we'll have threads along the lines of "why does it only have three different colours" ;-)

lol

Then someone will surely be here referencing that 12th gen copy as the reason they are canceling their pre-order.

I'm actually surprised that the crackdown wasn't more severe...

With as competitive as the Video Game Industry is, the secrets and development of a company's games are typically better protected and guarded than the Pentagon.

Well, except for the CoD franchise... we all know that Treyarch/Activision really don't give a [censored] about their online security. That's why every CoD game is completely owned by hackers/modders within 24 hours of game release. Not to mention, within six (6) hours of Black Ops dropping, there were gamers seen online with everything unlocked and all achievements, all weapon mods, etc. Their security is abysmal.

But yeah, aside from the sub-forums where we can discuss it, I am surprised that they haven't really blasted the "leakers" more severely.

I do kind of enjoy the attention Zenimax is putting towards the leaks, makes the game seem more elusive.

I saw the leaked footage, and read the complaints about the gameplay and graphics. I personally saw nothing wrong with anything. Yes, the graphics were poor, but that was because I was watching it on youtube with a 360p video. I have no doubt that the graphics will look beautiful on my HDTV. Many of the other complaints were nowhere near justified, either. Maybe I'm just easy to please.

No you're just a normal human being, lacking the nerd rage that most youtube commenters tend to have.

Some journalist(s) break a serious contract and release footage about a part of the game they want to keep secret, thereby undermining their PR strategy. Beth has had the rule of not posting leaked materials since (at least) Oblivion, them going back on it and letting us post the leaked video would make no sense. They've already been incredibly lenient by creating this forum and letting us talk about all the leaks that have come out.
