Bethesda...Mature Themes?

Since the ESRB is American, anything involving a skirt cut above the knees will receive an M rating, while decapitations goes well along the lines of raising your child properly. Go figure.

Discussing that obvious irony is not welcome here, according to the moderator. Let's continue that discussion in the Society General board (the one that doesn't exist).

I don't think the nudity is all that big of a deal even here in the US now. There wasn't so much as a blip about Witcher 2 anywhere that I noticed and it has plenty of nudity in it. It's well done and fits the moments where it is used so it doesn't seem gratuitous. It's just part of a more mature story line. I think leaving it out of Bethesda's games is more of a strategic move towards a broader audience. It's just safer not to have the controversy really. Somehow games like Witcher 2 get away with it and I'm not exactly sure why. I also found it strange that in GTA they showed male full frontal nudity and nobody said a word but for some reason they still don't have topless girls in the strip clubs in the game.

But I was kind of surprised that there didn't even seem to be a hint of six in Skyrim. Even in Fallout 3 you could have those dark screen moments with the local prosttutes. Seems like they're backpeddling for some reason or other.

Well I have never felt like the TES games needed sixual content like, oh say The Witcher 2. I won't even bother mentioning the underwear grinding of Dragon Age Origins (honestly a 'fade to black' would have been better). The personal relationships with NPC's in TES have never been to the point where a sixual scene was needed to develop it any more. TES just got spouses and even then the whole relationship (if you can call it that) is a joke. I've never had any imagined feelings for my TES spouse like there have been for other games. In TES the spouses are just an empty shell that set up a shop and give an extra perk. Certainly no need for nudity to develop that any.

Part of the rating was for stuff in books. Try reading all the volumes of The Real Bareziah. The important reference from the ESRB was about the [censored] in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Opusculus_Lamae_Bal_ta_Mezzamortie.

Haggar, you do a disservice to yourself by describing what you disagree with as "gay".
I apologize if i offended anyone...i use the word gay almost literally to describe in 1 word the lack of masculine or "manly" views that i see prevelent nowadays. Imo most people are overly soft and sensitive so i sum it up with "gay" in the slang sense but i have no problem with gay people...a gay friend of mine even uses the word gay like i do, stating that hetero males who dont act like men are "gay"..i guess its ok when he says that because he's a gay guy :P

Anyway im straying off topic and "hijacking" this thread so i'll stop now :)

Stigwa..good points, i believe that which doesnt kill us makes us stronger but obviously that doesnt apply to all...many kids would crumble growing up in situations that other kids grow strong in. Not everyones a conan :P

If you feel Skyrim needs to be more 'mature' I am sure there are plenty of mods out there. It's only a game after all

Misleading title. Now the title actually matches what is discussed in the thread.

Bethesda never said there were sixual themes. That is the standard ESRB blurb for "M" rated games.

Personally I think you're just pissed that your trolling title got changed.

To quote a wise owl:
Please provide a source where Bethesda said that.
The sixual themes are in the game. However, there's not graphical six and/or fully naked men/women in the game. That doesn't mean the themes aren't there. The themes have been pointed out with plenty of examples in this thread.

Neither does he/she know who put the rating on the back of the cd case. I'll give a clue: Not bethesda.

Apparently he/she/it/them cannot actually read very well.

Let's try it in troll:

Bethesda No say words. ESRB say words. Bethesda have to print words or get hit.

I do wanna say something regarding this topic. This is all about role playing. Ok so they let us marry someone. Obviously it is normal for two married people to make love to each other. Now, I'm always seeing comments like, if you want to do that why not go get a real woman, or go look at porm, or some other comment that debases six to it's most juvenile form. But for a mature player being able to act out six is just another part of role playing. It's not a dirty thing about oogling at a woman's body, it's about a natural act that people take part in all the time.

Look at it this way. I want to kill people in this game but nobody says to me, "Why don't you go out in the real world and kill somebody, why not go to some site and watch snuff films". Now some of you roll your eyes and think things like, because that would be stupid. It's just a game and you're not hurting anyone. Well try that logic with six too. Maybe I don't want to bother with a real person. Maybe I just want to act it out in the game and that's good enough. Maybe I want to role play my relationship with my in game wife just like I want to go down the road and chop that bandit's head off. But there's some kind of double standard here even among gamers that it's ok to murder people all day in a game but somehow it's messed up to want to have six in a game. In real life murder is a massive no no but six is one of the most discussed and thought about topics of society. Few people want to murder someone but almost everyone wants to have six. How does that get all reversed in gaming to the point that people actually defend the murder and make fun of people who want to have in-game sixual relationships? It really makes no sense at all when you get down to it.

No one's making that comparison.

We've pointed out that not only did Beth never promise it, but that sixual content is already in the game.

"sixual Themes" not "sixual Content". That's the difference between "Lusty Argonian Maid" and Dragon Age Origins' "six scenes"

Yeah, and even those 'torrid' six scenes in DA:O were pretty PG-13. Nary a nipble in sight. Heavy stuff. Other than a couple of tame references to 'sixual themes' in a couple of Skyrim books, and a few people in their underwear out in the wilderness, that's about it for Skyrim's risque content. Oh, almost forgot the necromancer dude who killed and raised women to be his love slaves... even though you never actually see anything erotic, it's all just related to you in a few non-descriptive journal entries. They have some bloody mess areas, and plenty of gnawed-on skulls and ribcages laying around for the gore quota, but I didn't see anything in the whole game that was particularly titillating or deserved even an iota of 'sixual content' labelling. People are right- it was just an advertising ploy, hoping to lure in teenage kids lusting after some pixelated ta-ta's or something.

Haelga, in Riften. Her associated quest, as well as items found in her bedroom, are quite sixual.
I believe it's Brynjolf who tells you that his Falmer Blood Elixir allows you to 'make love like a sabrecat'.
While not technically sixual, Mikael the bard wrote 'A gentlemans guide to Whiterun', which basically describes the women of Whiterun as potential love interests.

Honestly, I'm glad that Skyrim isn't full of sixual content. It'd ruin the game for me - I play Skyrim because I want an RPG, not an advlt film.

Whoa. Mikael wrote that book? Whoa. TIL.

Some of the in-game books have some pretty . . . interesting things, I think. Theme-wise.

All in all, though, I'm glad Skyrim doesn't have much sixual about it. I bought a game, not interactive advlt films.
