Bethesda should pursue the Knights of the Old Republic Franc

Development for the games you even love cost money to develop. No profit , No franchise to love.
Obviously. I'm quite aware of how much software costs to develop. That doesn't mean the next KotOR needs to be developed by Bethesda in order to succeed.

Bethesda needs to keep their grubby lore-crushing fingers off of Star Wars! :stare:

there needs to be another kotor but not the stupid mmo

I realize MMOs aren't for everyone, but the game really is fantastic. The story, sound, graphics, and gameplay are top notch. As time goes on, it will only get better.

They abandoned it for Mass Effect, so Bethesda can pickup publishing rights from them and Lucasart.

Actually not. The Old Republic is technically KotOR III, as it continues the story.

TOR actual has one strength that even the original KoTOR games didn't have... you don't HAVE to be a Jedi. This is one thing that has always kind of detracted from that series for me, because I'm not interested in all the Jedi/Sith stuff. Although I haven't played TOR in a while, I was really enjoying my Bounty Hunter.

Yeah, I just started my Gunslinger today, and have been thoroughly enjoying it.

I think it's pretty obvious Bethesda knows what its doing when it comes to being a company in the video game industry. They have been making successful games for a while now.

Metaphor!!!!!!! The one who deprives all from a fruit thats only sweet to all except himself.

Talk about irony.

And no, I'd not want a KOTOR game made by Beth. Beth's focus is on open worlds, and that's it really. Poor characters would not help in a KOTOR game at all.

Anyway this is all hypothetical, but for the foreseeable future, this will never happen.

And I want Bioware to stay away from the franchise as well, though another KotOR game by them would still be infinitely better than if Bethesda were to ruin it.

In the best case scenario, someone throws a ton of money at Obsidian and gives them a huge amount of time, so they can make a game just as incredibly awesome as The Sith Lords and actually finish it.

Hope Bioware makes another Kotor , the mass effects universe bores me to tears.. everything feels so sterile in those games.. or like the same company designed every product within the game world.

Demand is there, Bethesda is the one to supply the quality needed.
The demand for Kotor 3 is there, yes. But the demand for a Bethesda style kotor isn't. People want a Kotor that plays like the original. And now that Bioware is done with ME, maybe they can look into it. I haven't seen this idea anywhere except here and I don't think Bethesda is good enough with story telling so they can not supply the quality needed. Kotor for me is about the story. Bethesda is good at open worlds and good atmospheres, but when it comes to telling a good story Bioware is way better.

I just can't see KotoR/Star Wars being a good match for Bethesda's "great open world/shallow characters/shallow character interactions/shallow story" style. Those games have always seemed to be about character and story. Why would you ever think that Beth could do a good job with them?

edit: as I've said, I love Beth's games. Probably play them more than any others. Doesn't mean I can't be fully aware that character & story just aren't their strong suit.

No, they shouldn't. KoToR was about the story and the choices you made first and foremost. Bethesda fails quite horribly at creating a decent story and as far as choices and the effects they have in their games... non-existent to straight up laughable. Now, world-building and dungeon crawling? No one can touch them on that front. Hell, I'm not even sure I want Bioware to make the next KoToR after seeing what they did to Dragon Age 2.

A perfect thread for that famous Darth Vader "noooo" and it wasn't used? Tsk tsk, internet.

Nothing I've seen from Bethesda suggests to me they'd do a KotOR game well. I felt the sequel would've been much better if only it were finished, so I'd much rather give Obsidian another shot.

"Saw a Jedi the other day... horrible things."

Yeaaahh-no.

Bethesda can make a world that sort of functions and looks nice enough. As for writing and characters? No... just... no. All you'd end up with is 200 hours of trawling round a landscape trying to find something to do and eventually ending up grinding skills until someone makes a mod that adds skimpy outfits, you use that for a while and are inevitably back to grinding for another 200 hours.

I'll freely admit that I was disgusted by the ending/s to ME3. Up until that point however I loved the characters and writing overall. I'm startled that there are apparently "characters" in Bethesda developed games. Where are these mythical creatures?

It was. You should play it again with The Sith Lords: Restored Content Mod (imaginatively nicknamed TSLRCM), it's much better than KotOR 1 ever was.

Ah yes, "Bioware" the game developer who allegedly conspired with Electronic Arts to produce a poor ending to Mass Effect 3, and then sell a satisfactory one as DLC, we have dismissed that claim.
Just drop it.

True old Bioware I know and love seems to be doing good in swtor.

How good would the writing be though with Beth at the helm? Because I really want a good Star Wars RPG with a great plot and everything (SW 1313 is kind of a disappointing reveal).

Immersion, and living massive worlds is bethesda,s specialty. KOTOR is a whole galaxy to build upon, and vast history. It allows integrity of the KOTOR universe to remain accurate, without limiting developer creativity. They can start at any point of the timelines, with created, characters or those vaguely known responsible for great feats. How about reestablishing the Jedi Order with a aftermath of the empire as a premise.

I hoping Bethesda will develop KOTOR as a XBOX 720 exclusive/partial to launch its debut along with the next generation system.

First of all, what world do you live in where you think companies will just give away their franchises to someone else? Will never happen. Second of all, The Old Republic is the next game in the KOTOR series, take it or leave it. Everyone is so obsessed with single player gaming. Single player gaming is dead. It is not where the money is. You'll either make friends or be alone forever...

It's like the people who want to play Diablo III solo. That's just weird. You want KOTOR play SWTOR. If you wanna be a loner, play it solo.

It depends who they contract to write it. They need to beg Ridley Scott & Lucas.

I'd much rather have a developer known for good strong story to be doing that. And I don't believe in this "immersion" thing.

Yeah, Bethesda svcks hardcoe at writing stories..Just saying. The games might be fun, but the stories are never gripping or long lasting. Bioware is a master storyteller.

Who said giveaway. They have to purchase the rights, or develop under a partnership. Bioware has no interest in bringing the franchise back, so we are left with the larrgest potential on the backshelf under Pikmin or Viva Pinata. Bethesda has to undestand why not develop whats in demand, then after a successful profit go into their creative from scratch register. Happy consumers and developers. I feel like I am waiting for Mayweather to fight Paquiao, give the fans (revenue), what we want.

That would cost the entire budget of the game.
