Bethesda: Skyrim DLC Will Feel More Like Expansion Packs

My favorite was when he described a complex economy that we would be able to help flourish or cripple through our actions.

What he really meant was you'll have a grand ole time fast-traveling to 3 different holds to unload all the stuff you picked up on ONE dungeon crawl because none of the merchants have crap for gold! See, you guys just build stuff up in yer head!

Let's not forget that merchants wives/children/best friend will "take over if the merchant is killed".

Or my personal favorite "Skyrim has an all new engine!".

He also said each race would get a representative armor set, which, of course, was not true.

I would say so.

Obsidian said that Legion in New Vegas was going to have a lot of content and be on par with NCR in terms of it IIRC and they were, but Bethesda didn't extend the deadline and they were forced to cut it.
Obsidian didn't lie, they told the truth, New Vegas was gonna have more Legion content but their deadline was too short to fully design it all.
Bethesda on the other hand decides their own deadline, and Dawnguard does not seem like an expansion to me, more like a mini-expansion or a big DLC, but not an expansion.
And Hearthfire is basically like Frostcrag Spire.

So I'd say Toddy lied.
Wrong. The ones who cut Obsidian's dev time was Bethesda Softworks, the publishing arm of the company.
They also control Bethesda Studios' deadline, which Todd cannot control

Do you seriously expect a company to design 2 completely new original products within months of each other. Especially when one of those products hasn't been released to all markets.

You know what they say talk is cheap. Most developers nowadays will make promises or say things they can't do or won't do.

If bethesda released an "Uber epic kill things in some war against the big bad army" DLC, they would get no more money from me.

there is this thing called a deadline and sometimes things you want in get cut because you dont have the time to implement them also you can only delay a game so much

I believe he later clarified that they would do a couple of large DLCs with smaller stuff in between. Some of the small stuff would be free. So far we got mounted combat and enhanced finishing moves added for free via patches. We got one rather nice DLC and this one was added at a small price due to many, many requests for it. On the blog today Gstaff indicated that only a small portion of the team worked on this one while a larger number of the team are working on a much larger one.

They are just keeping us content while they work on the big one methinks.

Very true. However, they also hold stuff back so they can charge for it later. Unfortunately it is becoming common practice now. Having said that, I certainly don't mind spending money on good sized expansions that add quite a bit of content to a game. Paying for small stuff though that in my opinion should be part of the game at release I find more annoying.

While I enjoy the Disgaea series, I hate how they nickel and dime you on Disgaea 3 and 4(charging a couple dollars just for a character from a past game). I believe some of them are actually already on the disc but they are "unlocked" when you pay for them.

Well, in my opinion dragons should breathe bubbles. That doesn't mean other people are going to agree, and that doesn't mean it should be in vanilla Skyrim because I say so

What is and isn't in the base game is factual. What should and shouldn't be is purely your opinion. And the stuff Hearthfire adds was all created after Skyrim was released, so that entire point is moot

Just because a few things change in plans, Todd Howard is a liar?
Exactly. A few things couldn't be done, no need to make a thread, is there?

Maybe you have difficulty reading. I even said in my statement "in my opinion" I realize others disagree. Forums are for expressing opinions last time I checked. I used Disgaea as an example of how I feel gaming is going in the wrong direction. That and games needing a multiple patches to fix numerous issues that should have been addressed before release.

BTW, doesn't matter to me if they worked on it after the game was released. I'm sure many companies when discussing ideas decide to not work on certain aspects for the main game, realizing they can add it later and make more money. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, and perhaps many people enjoy that.
