Bill Gates is better than Batman

For those who don't have time time (or patience) to read the entire infograph, here's the essence of it;

Bill Gates Gives Away More Money Than The Entire US Foreign Aid Budget

Now I'm no Microsoft fan, but I don't like it when people are hated and judged for something they're not. Bill Gates, he's just a power hungry nerd and micro$oft is a cancer in the world of technology. pff. Right?

Meanwhile, Steve Jobs is deified.

This is absolutely incredible and I wish more people did this. Instead they spend all their money on multi-million dollar mansions, private jets, and garages full of limited edition sports cars.

I respect Steve Jobs as a marketing genius; he managed to convince people that they need an Apple product, which is an amazing feat on its own, but he's still extremely overrated.

Well, if he's so generous... one would think that he'd at least try and make sure the next windows product isn't as buggy as previous versions, rather than the current system of "Even-numbered releases are always buggy, odd-numbered ones are the fixes to the previous one". The question is *why* he's giving away so much money; is he a Philanthropist or is he doing this because it's very good PR? We won't know without some kind of mind-reading device, but how he runs his company can be a good indication.

He hasn't been a full-time employee at Microsoft since 2008. Not the right way to go about a 28 billion dollar publicity stunt.

oh I'm not saying that, "Bill Gates is better than Batman" is the title of the article I linked in the OP. I know how awesome Batman is, I've actually got The Batman Handbook on a bookshelf above my bed, right next to The Art of War by Sun Tzu. :D

He probably understands that money doesn't buy happiness... something that other greedy billionaires should learn. Not saying all of them are greedy, just the ones who will use any means necessary just to get richer.

A quotation from the link sums that up nicely:
[Bill Gates] spent $200 million to rescue a polio vaccine companies feared would be unprofitable.
It's a vaccine. It's supposed to save lives, not make you rich. That just rubs me the wrong way.

I don't visit Cracked very often these days, their articles have become increasingly inaccurate and misleading and I just don't enjoy reading them any more.

Is this actual Gates or does this count charitable actions done through the Gates Foundation? Little known fact is that the Gates Foundation's charitable acts are funded by not just Bill, but others (including Buffet).

Not to belittle his donations (as he still donates a considerable amount), but the article is quite unclear on the matter

It implies it's Gates alone, because they counted Buffet's donations separately, but it might be a mistake.

Warren buffet makes donations outside the gates foundation as well. The Gate's foundation's donations also weren't in cash, but high valued stock. Buffet's donations make up approximately 85% of the Gate's foundation's donate-able funds. That at the least is one of the problems with the infographic (as it compares the foundation's funds to Gates net worth, when most of the funds for the charity come from Buffet). Another problem with it is the gates foundation "only" donates a billion or so a year, whereas the US foreign aid budget is spent in it entirety every year (and then reset for the next)

"profitable" doesn't mean "lolwegetalotmofmoney." Profitable means they make enough money from selling their product that they have enough to futher increase their research and resources. Small-town walk-in clinics only become international medical megagiants through profit. A medical company that sells vaccines purely to save lives, while being a saint, will also only make just enough to keep the status quo if that. No expansion, no research. Overall, less lives saved in the long run.

Not every vaccine needs to make a profit. If they feared they couldn't break even, then I'd understand. If they can break even, then why not release it? The article implies they weren't going to do anything with it because they couldn't make money. Obviously it has a reason to imply that, so I can't say for sure if it's accurate without looking at the source.

I heard that when he dies he has made it so that 90% of his wealth will go to charity.

I think someone with that much money has a responsibility to do things such as giving to charity.

What can one person do with $28 billion anyway. Too much money for one person imo
