Bored playing video games

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:35 am

OP - my advice is this: don't think about it too much. Play when you feel like playing. Some people move on from gaming. Some people just go on a hiatus. Just do what you want to do and don't worry too much about it.
Sound advice.

I don't play video games nearly as much as I used to. In my childhood and teens I'd play non stop.

I probably like writing/talking about games more than actually playing them these days. I buy maybe 2 games per year tops, and even that has slowed down lately. I think that's more of a symptom of where gaming in general has headed rather than me simply getting bored of the medium though.

I haven't been playing video games as much lately since the only times these days where I have time to play some I'm way too tired (like now) to focus on anything. My day today for example was just waking up, going to work, then returning home for dinner just so I could go out again and play Magic: The Gathering at a local games, books and crafts store and when I came home from that I had time to do stuff before sleep but felt too tired to do anything but watch videos and post on these forums.

And soon I will go to sleep just to repeat the process all over again except I might replace Magic: The gathering with the Warcraft TCG or Risk Legacy or tabletop D&D or settlers of Catan or some other card/board-game me and my buds play.

I'm... apathetic, for lack of a better term. I just can't seem to muster up the energy to even play video games much, it seems.

Word, guys. I miss the old days when I was able to play Guild Wars for 12 hours a day.

Funny thing is if the current me got the time of past me to play games then he would his time a lot more constructively and wouldn't even play as many games (still a bit of gaming though but not nearly as much).

I'd have spent the time differently if I could do it over again, as well, but I think my time spent playing video games did at least some good - hindsight's always 20/20, I guess.

It's definitely not because you're getting older. I didn't get into video games in a big way until my 30's. When I was 18-28, I barely ever touched them, and even after I started getting into them, I didn't play more than a few hours a week. I spent all my time reading/writing/drawing. That's actually what got me into video games...trying to find a better medium for getting what was inside my head out of it. I don't think I considered myself a 'gamer' until about 4-5 years ago. I'll be 40 in a few months.
