Boys and Cooking

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:41 pm

I'm a boy, I'm more of a cook, yet no one really believes me when I say I just cooked a seven course meal (I mean, how could you not?). And I know I'm not the only boy who is also a cook that makes a variety of meals. Also, thank you so much male celebrity chefs for letting us choose recipes by males and females! It's a pretty awesome feeling not having to make a dish invented by a female chef again. There need to be more cook books where the author is a guy (Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape, Jamie's 30 Minute Meals) because, and this should be common knowledge by now, guys cook. And some of those guys--just like their female counterparts--are terrible, they're awful cooks. But others who, like myself, have been in the kitchen since they were (slightly more) wee (in my case SIXTEEN years old) are absolutely amazing--again like their female counterparts that have been cooking since they were wee. Just sayin'.

I love cooking, but I'm a guy, so I try to tell everyone that I'm a guy who cooks.

Spaghetti bolognese is my specialty yo.

You're more of a domestic task than a gender? Nice one, love.

I feel you, bro. Not literally! No homo.

When I tell my girl to make me a sandwich, all she does is yell at me about how fat and lazy I am. So i started to make my own sandwiches. It's so much better this way. I can put whatever I want on them without her complaining!

Yep, I like eating and it's easier if you cut out the middleman.

Been cooking for close to 12 to 16 years here developing my skills (Started when I was 12 to 14 years old) . I'm not chef since I don't have formal training, but i'm definitely a cook and love to do it. Hardest thing to cook is probably my Italian chicken which requires a nice slow cooker to heat the sauce for about 6 to 8hrs. A recipe is never perfected, but that's the oldest one I have cooking that dish for about 9 years. Easiest thing to make are taco meatballs which I just take chili sauce, taco seasoning mix and combine them together in a pan. After that I just throw them + some frozen meatballs in a slow cooker for 6hrs. Little prep time and makes some nice quick appetizers.

If it is eggs, a sandwich, or in pocket-form, I can make it. I can also make popcorn on a kettle...

Cooking is what you do when you go to a drive-thru and order right?

This sounds pretty nice. My cooker is kind of crappy - it's very hard to adjust the heat gradually. I hope someday soon to be able to kit out a pretty decent kitchen, as I do love food, and I'd love to have the option to try my hand at most recipes and cooking styles eventually.

Well, except molecular gastronomy - I'd need a fully fitted chemistry lab for that. :P

I'm not the best of cooks, but I'm not bad at prepping various things. My specialties are salads especially. I can also make a few good quick meals, mostly meat based ones.

Men are the significant majority as far as chefs go. Sorry, you're not a special snowflake.

I feel like this thread needs a https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-hg6tbKmKmuU/TYTwsa3c-jI/AAAAAAAAAHg/NqGmAuXcN1Y/i+hunger.jpg...

I can somewhat cook. Well, fry. I fry stuff well. I also boil and grill well. Cooking is kind of beyond me.

My parents were ***holes and only taught me how to cook desserts.

Sure I'm popular at parties but wtf I can't cook myself a nice dinner for the life of me and then I end up just eating out.

You've been cooking since you were 16, and you're now what, 16.5? I have to assume so, as you refer to yourself as a "boy".

Lots of men cook. It's not abnormal.

no you don't.... fresh prepared food is available at most markets

I live on that [censored].

I ain't about to waste time cooking just for myself. Frack that.

I'm pretty good at cooking, but hate it.... hate cleaning up after cooking even more... and when you're a bachelor, you always gotta do both.

Back when I was engaged it was 1 or the other, so I didn't mind cooking.... *sigh*

I am a disciple of the great Alton Brown! I have all three of his books, and keep his show "Good Eats" DVR'd. Thanks to him, I was able to make great dishes in college, without burning down a dorm and the food. They were also great hits when I made food for the heck of it.

Also, I'm the only other person allowed to make food in my house during the holidays, where as all my siblings and my dad are banned for even entering the kitchen.
