Brotherhood of steel in new vegas

Yeah well most people will see it as NCR vs CL and not realize that NCR and BOS has been at war with each other.
So when they put on the PA and get shot by the NCR they're going to be very confused and possibly write "NCR shot me, BUG!" on the forums.
Which will make me lol several times over.
Time for new players to actually research a little in the game. ;)

...
Hey Josh... NCR do shoot you with a BOS PA on right...?
Or has that part been rewritten or something?

That would be hilarious for all the PA lovers. I personally never end up wearing the stuff. Don't know why, it just never suited me. Still, I imagine wearing PA should get you shot by a LOT of factions. Most have no love for the BOS, and most wastelanders would probably love to get one of the suits for themselves, and would see a lone person wearing PA with no backup as the perfect opportunity to acquire one.

I liked the BoS in F3 and I hope that you can join them in NV......from what I've read about them back in the west it should be much harder and demanding though. Should start with Trading and Tech salvage (like with the outcast) they then figure hey we can always use some extra eyes and ears in the wasteland, soon or later your able to go on raiding parties and more dangerous missions. After a lot of hard work they decide you earned the right to join but there will always be those who hate outsiders!

I'm looking forward to this and don't think it will be a problem because in F3 most of the power armor was generic and only a hand full of it was actually BotherHood armor (didn't have the BOS symbols or name).

If by harder and more demanding you mean pester them into promising you membership for going on a mission they deem dangerous enough to kill you and ensure they never see you again, then annoying them when you show back up to claim your reward, so that even though you are a member, you are forever loathed and despised to your face and back, then yes. Harder and more difficult. :goodjob:

Awwwww...Crap...That would svck if we couldn't wear any Enclave or BoS power armor without someone getting pissed off. That would just svck. Hopefully NCR won't hate BoS and vice versa because I plan on working with both. Having to play dress up every time I try to do a mission would get annoying pretty quickly.

Are you kidding? If New Vegas follows established lore the BOS and NCR hate the crap out of each other. They've even been to war before. So, uh, good luck with that whole "both sides" plan you've got going there. You better get used to keeping that PA in a storage locker at the BOS base unless doing missions for them. Until the inevitable mission where they send you against the NCR to steal from them or hit one of their outposts.

Ya something tells me working for both sides won't work out so well. Why don't you go ahead and work for Caesar's Legion too?? That will REALLY help your situation.

You guys are so negative. Maybe they don't hate each other too much after the war. Besides, T-51b Power Armor is pre-war technology that anyone could have gotten their hands on. BoS would be using Advanced Power Armor if they had the opportunity. NCR can't just discriminate against anyone wearing a nice suit of Power Armor. Hopefully they don't cross paths enough to make me have to choose. It would be a damn shame if I had to kill the entire NCR :gun:

They are at war. Currently. Apparently the BoS wants NCRs tech. It was confirmed the two are at war in New Vegas over technology.

You mean like the Allies in WW2 couldn't just discriminate against anyone wearing an Axis uniform? I mean anyone could have gotten their hands on those uniforms. What if it's some friendly chap who wants to work with them and have tea? Surely such a person wouldn't just be shot! You know, for only wearing the suit of an enemy they are currently at war with. Gasp. :D

Well I was thinking more like the T-51b isn't an armor that only the BoS wears. Anyone can go scavenge a set. The BoS was originally a group of defectors that took their armor with them. They probably actively seek out suits of T-51b, but that doesn't necessarily make it an official uniform. Hopefully the NCR isn't very discriminatory about what kind of power armor you can wear in their presence.

I know what your getting at but this would be more like slowly earning their trust and respect..... but hey I'm all for suicide missions :D

Edit: btw I don't blame them for not wanting me to join...cause once they let me in I took all their armor and weapons hehe.

In all seriousness, it is an interesting conundrum that potentially the most powerful armor in the game will have be constrained in use by faction politics. Maybe other factions will have their own versions, but I doubt it.

T-51b may have been common once as the main uniform of the United States military before the Great War, but keep in mind that the BOS has spent the last 200 years religiously acquiring every suit they can find. The default assumption in the wasteland will be that anyone in T-51b is BOS. The NCR could potentially be talked to in order to explain that you are on their side, but will be wearing PA. But even in that case, they wouldn't be likely to trust you beyond the length of your current visit. Even if you marked the PA on the outside to enable them to distinguish that it was you, they aren't likely to trust that. PA makes the wearer largely anonymous. They couldn't afford to trust that heavily armed person in PA entering their outpost was you. What if you had been killed and the marked armor stolen? What if the BOS had spies or noticed the system you had in place with the NCR. They could mark their own PA in an identical fashion, or at least good enough to get close and do some real damage. No commander could take that chance. No, you would likely to be told to ditch the PA if you wanted to play ball with the NCR, or they would demand you use it to infiltrate a BOS base and take out their enemies.

There is a flip-side as well. The developers said that although faction outfits and uniforms can be used as disguises, there will always be some NPCs in those factions that can see beyond the deception. Hell would have no fury like BOS soldiers that discovered someone wearing T-51b that was not one of their brothers or sisters. This probably explains the lack of wastelanders using scavenged sets of PA - it would be a death sentence unless you had the skills to fend off BOS soldiers in their own PA.

[off-topic remark removed]

Anger aside. I expect them to be a neutral party as they were in the past ala Fallout 1 and 2 style.

Why would they be neutral if they're fighting the NCR?

they are war over technology. Just because they are fighting dosen't mean one is good or bad. NCR has been said to be more of a gray than white. As in they want control and we dont know how far they are willing to go, to get it.

Fighting came to an end. BoS could still hold a grudge against NCR. Factions in New Vegas will be less Black and White and be more grey.

No... The BoS and NCR are at war in FONV throughout the game. This has been confirmed for a while. Also I don't think the war from Van BUren will be canon in FONV.

It has? I wasn't aware of that. I thought the current relations between Brotherhood and NCR were ambiguous. We know they fought in the past and that the Brotherhood destroyed the NCR's gold reserves, but I certainly never got the impression they were fighting a total war. I thought the war was pretty much over.

Well I've heard over and over that they are AT war in FONV. Though I could deffinentally be wrong. If you try to find a link to your info I'l try to link mine.

I think the Tri-Beam Rifles are BoS common weapon... Overlords with those really messed me up in Fallout 3, a group of 3 BoS's with those would murder me in seconds X-X (unless they got rid of that -40hp a shot thing)
So taking on the BoS would be a real [censored] I think >_>

I'm not that fond of them. I'll probably react the same as when I walk by Outcasts in 3, which was to kill them all for their snide little comments.

West-Coast BOS are not high up my 'Let's Be Friends' list.

I was not sure. I thought by the time of New Vegas the war between BoS and NCR was over. The War with BoS and NCR in Van Buren will be canon now thanks to New Vegas. All the info about the BoS attacking NCR's Gold forcing NCR to switch to paper money. Just the part were the war ends I guess.

NCR will be at war with BoS and Ceaser's Legion, guess that means NCR is alot of trouble. If NCR and BoS are still at war this would mean BoS should be a major faction or at least have a big role to play would it not?

Apparently the BoS is still recovering and the NCR is just keeping their distance. They're not going to be buddy-buddy, but they won't be actively fighting each other. NCR "won" the war and now they're just focusing on fighting Caesar's Legion.
