Brotherhood of steel in new vegas

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 7:59 pm

I know alot of people like the brotherhood of steel and though they have been confirmed in new vegas we havnt gotten many more details on them such as

1. wether you can join them in doing whatever they are doing
2. wether they will be considered a good faction or a bad faction
3. wether they will be as powerful as in fallout 3 or just a lowely gang of power armored thugs trying to survive

We really don't have a lot of info on other factions either y'know.
A lot of people want to join Omerta, FotA, Chairmen and Powder Gangers but except from Van Buren and some older info we don't know a lot about them.
They could have changed, they could be the same as they were before.
All we can do is to speculate on what info we've been given from earlier games.

Anyway.

1. I don't think you can join them, maybe do some quests for them but not join them.
2. There is no good or evil in F:NV, only different shades of gray.
3. Trust me, if they are BOS they will have top of the line equipment and training.

1. We dont know, its been mentioned that you may have to deal with them at some point. That is all.
2. Hopefully neither. Theyve never been good or bad, hopefully never will be.
3. Im assuming a decline in power from F1/2, due to the prolonged was with NCR.

Anger aside. I expect them to be a neutral party as they were in the past ala Fallout 1 and 2 style.

I doubt you'll be able to join them. Obsidian will probably want to show the more neutral/strict side of the west coast Brotherhood in contrast to Lyon's boy scouts.

And no, they won't be power armored thugs. The Brotherhood of Steel have always been a mostly noble faction, the Outcasts were more just bitter at their current situation than they are a representation of what the main BOS is like.

On a seirious note, I think they will be a small organization who want to be respected, and feared by the locals, but cant be taken seiriously, because they sit in a little hole all day.

I like the capital brotherhood but I really hope they crack a couple of jokes about how Lyons' altruism cost the BOS the single most valuable pre war weapon ever uncovered thus far (Liberty Prime).

I imagine that hasn't helped the west coast's view of how he's handling things over there.

I think you might be able to be an honorary member if you do enough to help them. They'll probably be a neutral faction since they care about their tech more than anything (although that may have changed). That, and they'll probably be less powerful than the Capitol Wasteland BoS, but still quite powerful since the NCR is very very cautious about them even in their weakened state.

Yeah as long as they arent like the Outcasts, I'm cool. They say that The Outcasts are like the Western BoS, but to be honest, I found the BoS back west to be like those stern chivalrous knights than uptight [censored]s.

What brought you to that conclusion, pray tell? Was it how they sent you on a suicide mission quest to join? Or how you had to browbeat their elders into sending a piddly four man team to help attack the super mutant production facility? Was it Rhombus, who was more than willing to just kick you from the Brotherhood if you said the wrong thing?

Well, some people in Lost Hills BOS were [censored]s but don't all factions have a couple of [censored]s in them?

But on topic. In my opinion the BOS should definitely represented in a more morally grey light.
I do think they were depicted too much as the Good Guys in Fallout 3. However I did agree mainly with the way they did things..

You deserve to be kicked out the Brotherhood if you say the wrong thing. These guys are descendants of the US army, they're about discipline and respect to the chain of command.

Welcome to the military.

Meh, they better be jerks. I expect them to be. Otherwise, I plan on using em all I can, and then killing em. I usually don't get along with them, and their attitude towards wastelanders.

You can't really hold the whole suicide mission thing against them. That's like the #1 RPG convention: you have to do some quest to get any help from anyone. BoS does what is best for themselves. Would you send an army to invade an enemy facility you know nothing about? They're not black and white. They actually think things through. They're also very disciplined, which is why saying the wrong thing will get you booted.

With the new "if you wear NCR clothes CL will shoot you" thing, does that mean NCR will shoot on sight if you wear a BOS power armor, cause in that case: :roflmao:
I can expect lots of people going "Hey what the hell man, I'm helping you guys why are you shooting at me!?".

Honorable my ass. Sure, a difficult mission to test ability is one thing, but you have to remember how and why they gave you the suicide mission to the Glow. You had to pester them for admittance repeatedly, each time being rebuffed. Finally, instead of just telling you to get lost, that they would never let you in, like honorable people may have done, they come up with an impossible task on the spot to get you out of their hair. Remember how one BOS soldier seemed surprised when the other mentioned the "quest"? Then quickly recovered and went along with it, saying it was a "standard task" that all seeking admittance had to pass? And how they selected the most deadly place they could think of off the top of their heads? A place so deadly that even if you escaped it, it could kill you days later? Remember how surprised they are when you return, mission accomplished?

When your initiation criteria is an impossible suicide mission that no one has EVER returned from, it is pretty evident that you belong to an order that does not want new initiates.

Yes, it has been stated that even if you are in the good graces of a faction, wearing a rival factions armor or clothing in their in their controlled areas will get you shot.

Yeah well most people will see it as NCR vs CL and not realize that NCR and BOS has been at war with each other.
So when they put on the PA and get shot by the NCR they're going to be very confused and possibly write "NCR shot me, BUG!" on the forums.
Which will make me lol several times over.
Time for new players to actually research a little in the game. ;)

...
Hey Josh... NCR do shoot you with a BOS PA on right...?
Or has that part been rewritten or something?

I liked the BoS in F3 and I hope that you can join them in NV......from what I've read about them back in the west it should be much harder and demanding though. Should start with Trading and Tech salvage (like with the outcast) they then figure hey we can always use some extra eyes and ears in the wasteland, soon or later your able to go on raiding parties and more dangerous missions. After a lot of hard work they decide you earned the right to join but there will always be those who hate outsiders!

I'm looking forward to this, I don't think it will be a problem because in F3 most of the power armor was generic and only a hand full of it was actually BrotherHood armor (didn't have the BOS symbols or name).
