No really, each aspect of the game have saparet teams working on it, so really nothing will improve the game more if they didnt have settlements on it. U have 0 clue about what game development involve.

Really what settlements need is a better tutorial that all, building isnt hard on pc or console.

And for the love of god stop been child and said everything is turn down for consoles, just get use to the new UI or controls isnt hard to adapt to new stuff. Seriously u guys sound like my granddad that complain about his computer.

OK, let me know when Todd hired you on and I'll take anything you say as fact.

You're an idiot if you think Settlemet system was even ready to ship.

And of course console considerations are always considered, every game that is multiplatform for how many years now has always had an effect.

If BGS wasn't so neck deep in the PC platform I'm sure they'd dump it and only do console. That's how business goes, money first...

I have a wire going inside the Red Rocket through the window. You just need to place the connectors in a way that the wire doesn't touch the walls. Some things need to be connected to a connector with a wire, but stuff like TVs, Jukeboxes and most lights need to be just near connectors.

Switches are like connectors, but they let you turn off the electricity from that point on. You can ignore them if you don't have anything that you would like to turn off at any point. I have pressure plates on the entrances of Red Rocket as an alarm system, which activate speakers that play a small sound when you step on them. I got tired of the sound, so I added a switch, which I (try to remember to) turn on when I leave the place (The pressure plates should be attached to traps, but there's no way I'll remember them and red walls don't match the decor... wait, it's Red Rocket so it actually matches... uhh, nevermind.)

And yeah, their next engine needs to support morphing terrain, if they're going to do settlement building again.

This is a new game and yes, it's a hard game to play. Give it time. I had a hard time making money with selling looted items such as weapons and clothing. Started crafting drugs, soups, roast and other things at the crafting stations and selling. Then started modding weapons just to sell. Give it a chance guys. Just takes time. When making the settlements, start small and scavenge the area just a little. plant a few crops and harvest these crops later to make more crops with more settlers. Scavenge more of the building zone to make your settlement bigger over time. Also I would look outside the building zone and find things i could bring into the zone and scavenge.

I personally enjoy the settlement building. For my own homes at least. The rest of my settlers can just sleep on the air mattress' I have laying around sanctuary. What i dont like is how difficult it is to figure out all of this stuff. It took my 2 hours to figure out how to get ,y lights in my house to work. I liked the idea and I'm not really a sim or crafting game kind of guy. What they really needed to do was extend surges quests abouy crafting. He teaches you noth7ng about scavanger benches, hardly a word about electricity and even things like food and water he glazes over. I love doing it, but the game leaves you to just figure it out as ypu go way to much. I'm still dealing with trying to figure out how to fill those accursed gaps you get when you add a story to your house.

dude i have 0 problem to set and run a settlement on my PC only problem i face was finding out how to do some stuff bc the tutorial is weak.

And yeah u are right they work the UI for console, and?? adapt to it, isnt a nightmare, u just need to learn it and that is all. Hell most games do that since they become multiplataform is part of the industries. I think at this moment the only type of game that still is pure on PC is RTS and that all everything thing else have adapt for PC and console. So how in the hell u cant adapt to it.

Thanks much, that really helps me to get a grasp on it. :)

I am kind of inept when it come to wiring stuff and I'll give it another go. Even without this stuff my Sanctuary people are 80 happiness, so that's not too bad, right?

Yep same problem here, they don't think to go upstairs if that's where you've placed them for guard duty, so flipping annoying.

I was in awe when I saw this feature in fallout. But, now..I'm too caught up in exploring. I can't be bothered to fend for these settlers who can't hold their own. Coming to my place, demanding beds and food. I have only built an area for my character. That's it.

I probably will give it another go. When all the missions are complete.

Like someone else has said on here, place a welcoming mat on the ground and whatever you put on top of the mat will move when you move the mat and only uses the mat as a size reference. Thats how you can eliminate all gaps

It was a pain in the * but I managed to do a small bunker for myself, the way I always wished I could do in previous Fallouts. There were only few options for Bethesda:

- remove the feature, because it is buggy and unfinished

- keep working on it until it works the way it is supposed to, postponing game release by another few months

- release it half finished

I am glad that I have my bunker and that I am playing this game now in november, so I am glad they just release it being cr*p

From a PC perspective, the system works fine. This is not a top-down Sims home builder; It's a system designed for use in a first person perspective.

There are some oversights on Bethesda's part, though:

-Doors are limited to a build-able frame. Player's should be able to add doors to existing, pre-built doorways (Croup Manor / Sanctuary Hills). Currently, you need to go through about 4-5 extra steps just do add a door to one of the prebuilt structures.

-Some structures are intact, like the Croup manor, but have gaping holes in their walls, floors, and roofing. It's kind of ridiculous being able to build scrap heaps but not being able to invest resources in patching up holes/cleaning out clumps of trash and dirt. The dirt/trash really messes up the positioning of extras like beds and tables, and the holes in the walls/roofs are simply not fixable, and the only way to "patch" them is to build a massive shell around the structure. Kinda defeats the purpose of having an architecturally diverse building if the only way to make it solid inside/out is building a box around it.

--

Those are just two majors problems that I have come across. A big content patch that adds in more functionality to the system would be a great start. In the case of pre-built structures, we can physically loot things like paintbrushes, paint, cleaning products, etc; So, why not let players select pre-built structures and spend resources repairing them?

I would like to see some small changes to make my inner OCD (should that be CDO?) go away. A door frame that can go inside (a novel idea i know). A small wall thats not the same size of a normal wall piece, you know, something that fits a small floor :goodjob: . A wall that fits to the side of a settlement main gate :brokencomputer: (arghh, the time, the agony, the denial, the time when you give in to utter despair) or is that just me :P

After all that though, Settlement building is still fun, another of those "game within a game" things, for me anyways. There's nothing like coming back home after a hard days "hunting an a killing" for a nice little bit of relaxing building. Wait, hold on....

Here's hoping for a few minor improvements down the road :)

Settlement building has huge potential, but needs some serious fixes:

  • The settlers need to be less moronic and robotic, and need to be able to look after themselves waaaaaaay more than they currently do
  • The 'attackers spawning inside the base' thing needs completely removing, or there's no [censored] point in bothering - so currently, I don't
  • Please [censored] god can we get an option to scavenge everything inside the building zone in one press, please? My playtime is too limited to spend an hour picking up and scrapping things - usable (green outline) to the bench and scrap (yellow outline) straight to components, please
  • An option to disable snapping or merge pieces would be grand, too.

Could be an utterly awesome feature - currently broken, but I remain hopeful for patches and tweaks

To me it seems as if they added just enough to see how well it would do at launch. If it went over well then add stuff later. I wish there was more explanation of how everything works but if they had tutorials then people would complain about this isn't what FO is about.

Maybe someone should create a tutorial guide here for settlement building and everyone adds little tricks they have learned during trial and error. Like for two story buildings you have to put a roof in between the upstairs floor to prevent there being a gap.

I wish there was a way to fix up the broken down houses in Sanctuary. Or assign a settler to patch it up.

I really want a freeform build mode with birdwiew.

And please free up build controls.

I want to use my own keys to buld, not the damn console friendly layout.

Really hate it. Sorry.

Actually it wouldn't be. DCUO puts players into free camera mode when decorating their base and works fine with a controller. I believe one of the far cry's does this as well. What we have in the game is not a limitation as result of consoles. Bethesda as per usual just didn't seem to think this mechanic all the way through.

it's a Bethesda game. Open a chest and get good loot? save. Talk to an NPC? save. Clear a corridor of raiders? save. Build a wall? save

I'm a FO player and I've wanted the ability to build, manage, and govern my own settlement since Fallout Tactics.

I think it's a great step forward, it could use some polish and added features. I hope Bethesda continues to patch this aspect of the game and build on it during their DLC/patching cycles.

You, along with every single architect in the world. That would be too easy. Play a Sims game if you want to build like that. The controls could be improved, but it is what it is, and feels somewhat realistic that you still need to walk around and feel like you're doing the dirty work.

I moved out of Sanctuary for this reason, it is such an eye sore that I'm not surprised if it contributed to some bouts of dizziness when I first started playing. That and sometimes companions are impossible to find because the town is so big. Moved to Sunshine Tidings for a much cozier feel.

I like settlement building, although I am starting a new character this evening and going to be much more judicious in the use of my resources this time.

I've used so much on Sanctuary, I don't have much left over for my other settlements - especially copper wire.

As to wiring, I kind of like it and feel like I've gotten pretty good at it. Gotta love those windmills. I figure the windmills were the way to go since, Lord knows where I was getting all that fuel for the generators - just didn't seem all that realistic.

And Dogmeat opening doors? Hey, no biggy, my cat opens doors all the time and dogs are much more adaptable. As I've said before, I luvs me my Dogmeat! Wish he would close them again though.

I built a kennel for Dogmeat. Now whenever I'm doing any work I just command him to it and he stays out of my way.
