Bungie's mmorpg "Destiny"

Post » Sat May 25, 2013 8:13 am

Not really much info to go on to be honest. I'll wait until they reveal some actual gameplay, and whether it'll remain console-exclusive.

Well someone's a Negative Nancy. You should probably wait until you actually know something about it other than a bit of concept art and a pre-rendered teaser before you decry it as unworthy of even existing.

And what exactly is "BIIIIG"? I'd say Halo was pretty big. And besides, this is Bungie's first non-Halo game in how long? 12-13 years?

I'm wondering if Bungie can do anything besides Halo anymore and will be quite interested to see whether or not this turns out to be basically Halo or an outlet for all of those ideas they had which I suspect Microsoft wouldn't let them explore.

Well, someone is "pansy"?

What Destiny is, is basically co-op shooter, social media intregration and mobile stuff. I just say Borderlands 3 and Left4Dead 3 has somethign to say to that. Also if Bungie was meant to be same as Bioware to EA, Bungies story is ended before even it starts.

Its not what I want, its what they're doing and how the market looks at the moment and everything whats happening and happened. To give you a specific answer would take way too long. Disappointed to Activision, lets just leave it there.

Console + Halo developers + "MMO" excluding PCs = Rawr mad, it's gonna be terrible!

Nothing more than a paranoid conspiracy.

I'm imaging it will be like a larger version of borderlands, but it will look like Halo.

And what do they mean by "bigger than Halo"? Is it physically bigger, or do they think it will be more popular, or maybe even a larger universe (This one seems least likely)?

I don't see where the OP heard it was an MMO anyway. I watched the trailer/teaser. From what I gathered it was going to be single player. Heavily made with more features for multiplayer. No where in the video did they say it was going to be an MMO.

By what I understand it's single player/co-op with dynamic drop-in drop-out akin to Journey, but also a shared hub worldspace where people can meet.

Don't mean to start a war but I think some(notice the word some) PC gamers aren't happy about a successful console only FPS. My thoughts.

On topic, I can't wait! It looks so interesting! Knowing bungies existing writers and world-building, it will be amazing. And it will be good for another Scifi FPS. Too much modern day stuff... And it may make 343 try to make H5/6 compete with that rather than CoD.(H4 added weapon drops based on points, killcams, custom loadouts and sprint)

Anyway, like the Valve box, it will be a fresh addition into the industry

Ahh never liked Bungie.. And they are stupid for thinking people on PC don't play FPS games.. When we have the biggest FPS ever.. TF2 that is.. A CoD game can have a lot of sales and a lot of people on for a certain amount of time, but at CoD's max is an average day for TF2..

It's a small-scale MMOFPS of sorts. For example, you can group up with friends and play the game and run across another group of players, or maybe just one or two. The matchmaking system is all behind the scenes and it's online only. Think Halo mixed with Borderlands and Journey.

I strongly dislike CoD. TF2 does look fun though never played it... Huge fan of Halo... But MMO style type of thing? No.

There hasn't been any real information about the game to really pass judgment on it. But from what I've seen it looks like some sort of Halo/Mass Effect/Borderlands fusion, but on a larger scale. Excluding the PC market from a game like this is a bad decision, unless there intention is to try & sell the next-gen consoles (I doubt it).

The concept is interesting, but there's been no substantial information other than the setting itself.

EDIT: I have no real faith in Bungie anymore. The longer they worked on the Halo franchise the more and more they mucked up the core gameplay. Every successive Halo game has played worse than the last (until H4, which is the best since H2, arguably better if the game had decent maps to play on). Despite the new options, graphics, editors, and online integration. Bungie can't write stories either. All of the real contributions to Halo were mainly done by Eric Nylund, and now 343i.

Didn't enjoy Reaches gameplay
ODST was alright
Wars was amazing, but not made by Bungie so it didn't count
3 was the best
2 was even better
4 was between 3/ODST
CE/CEA was about same as 4.

Forge got good, amazing, worse over 3, Reach and 4 though.

It's not even an MMO really, it uses the same "seamless" multiplayer Journey uses, but on a much larger scale.

Actually, iirc, they did cross platform multiplayer for halo 2, but consoles just got their asses kicked, go figure, so they separated them and decided to stick to focusing on console.

No that never happened. Xbox live made its debate with halo 2 and was pretty much revolutionized by it. This is one of those fallacies PC gamers make up to make them feel better about themselves.

There was one game that was cross platformed though later on. Can't recalled its name, but in the end the lag between the two systems made it unplayable and the game failed. Of course once again the PC players claimed it was because of the M+K.
