Bungie's mmorpg "Destiny"

Post » Sat May 25, 2013 11:49 am

Bungie and publisher Activision released a teaser for Destiny. Their new game seems to be, I'm guessing, MMORPG and is said to be "bigger than Halo."

"... like, how do you keep a player going for 50 or a hundred hours over some number of months and to not just want to play the game to want to play it with their friends."

It's a post apocalyptic fight for survival with space ships and colonies on moons. Think Halo Spartans wearing tattered hooded dusters walking through Skyrim-like environments or scenery, in a future after the future. There's a focus on a character called The Traveler. There's power armor, mechs and robots.

Your story starts as a defender of the city, able to wield some of The Travelers powers and a few nice rifles.

Have you guys seen this yet? Thoughts?

edit: "re-define the genre"...FPSMMORPG* ???

If its an MMO, then I am having an even harder time why they would purposely exclude the PC market.

Wild theory, but maybe this is for the next generation of consoles?

It's Bungie's signature style. Halo took on a lot of the styles of Marathon (another Bungie game).

Actually it looks like you should be fine. The other thread was locked due to spam and other inappropriate things.

What does that have to do with it? They are still cutting out a sizable portion of the MMO crowd by not having a PC version

I know that, but most console's today could barely support a "proper" MMO. So that means that if Bungie is developing a console exclusive MMO, then either they found a way to support an MMO in Today's consoles, or it's going to be released next gen. Ofcourse I still think it's a bad idea to not make it for the PC.

A LOT of Halo, indeed. The cruiser that looked like a Covenant Ghost looked pretty cool though.

True. Very peculiar. I'd guess to decrease the amount of pirated software.

Not too wild. I'd expect it to be.

Just the "what Willis was talking about" part. I assume it's from that one show who's name I don't remember.

They brought along some elements of Marathon to Halo, it's not a big surprise that they do the same for Halo -> Destiny.

Oh I just saw the thing for this game on the Xbox Live dashboard. They made it look pretty cool. I'll check it out when I get on Live later.

One article on its release said Bungie said its an MMO but its not an MMO, they wil have raids, but you can just walk past people in the middle of a raid and just join or walk past, so its a multiplayer style MMO, so its alot of people playing multiplayer but not playing an MMO, supposedly you can chose to do anything you want, so if you want to fly to another planet and fight you can or you can fight on earth, but of course it will turn out like every other MMO. and no surprise its only on Playstation and Xbox.

Definitely excited about this and I've already pre-ordered my copy from work. It sounds like it's a mix between Halo, Borderlands, Journey, and Mass Effect.

I also absolutely love the art style.

Sounds promising. I really hope they have the battles actually effect the game and are player driven. That would make this game simply amazing.

Well, if IGN is anything to go by, then it is coming out for the "Xbox 3" as well as the Xbox 360.

Fail if asked from me... This is basically Bordelands, some PVP added to it. Bungie just shows how pussies they're and try to keep their job and release new game every 2 year, instead of going BIIIIG.

http://documents.latimes.com/bungie-activision-contract/

Activision can terminate the contract without penalty if Destiny doesn't sell at least 5 million units in the first six months, or for any reason they please after the second expansion pack releases.

I honestly think they should cancel this right now.

It's not an MMORPG, they blatantly say that in the video
