Buying Skyrim + Dawnguard = 70 €uro - Bit ridiculous?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:14 pm

How many times is the OP going to create a thread on the same subject?

Title and DLC is priced as it is, either pay for it or dont the choice is yours.
Exactly this. Vote with your wallet. If you think the DLC is over-priced don't buy it, although I would like to see the specifics on price adjustment by region. I think it would be interesting

It does seem a little ridculous how Skyrim plus 4 dlcs will equate to $190. Ofcourse the whole package, bought later on will probably cost a 1/3 of that.

Come on, 70 €uro for Skyrim + Dawnguard on Steam and you get how much content for those 20 €uro?

70 €uro = 86 $ Dollars
70 €uro = 55 £ Pounds

In other words ..

20 €uro for the Dawnguard is 25 $ Dollars or 16 £ Pounds!

In all honesty the DLC is not spectacular you’ll really not miss much if you don’t buy it. It adds little to nothing to TES lore or to the Dovakiin, unless you really want to be a Vampire which I found to be annoying after 3 game days.

So honestly just don’t buy it till it drops to like $10. It will drop in time, so just wait a few months. You’ll live! I guarantee it.

So would I, as the price adjustment's made per region seem to ignore the current conversion of local currency to the $ value and price each region differently. Oh and just in case anyone thinks that local tax or thing's like that make the DLC $25 in Australia compared to $20 in America I'm sorry but your wrong on that. Australia is currently having an inquiry as to why Downloaded Digital Media is sold at a higher price here than elsewhere and that also reflects in the price in the shops, Skyrim was $89 on Steam at release, same price in the shops compared to $50? American and the Aussie $ was and still is stronger than the American $???

BTW: Playing the DLC inclusive within your Main Game playing does 'feel' like it adds far more than it really does, so to fill out a new run through the DLC is worth getting.
Bug wise with starting a new game with Dawnguard I have yet to see a Dawnguard related bug or issue, there has been one main game oddity but that's about it?

Considering most games barely last 20 hours nowadays I think it's fine.

Indeed. And if the next DLC will make as poor impression to me as Dawnguard did, i'll just wait and get the GOTY Edition instead.

A product is only overpriced when the seller is losing profit due to it's high price.

If it's not worth it to you or if you can't afford it, don't buy it. Bethesda doesn't negotiate prices, whining won't bring the price down. Odds are that even lower sales wouldn't bring the price down, they would just make fewer DLC's in the future.

I don't particularly like the Vampire setting of Dawnguard and yet it adds a lot to my game. To me it was a spectacular DLC. Great new locations, interesting new lore on Vampires, Soul Gems and Snow Elves and the Falmer. Lots of other smaller stuff.

Yup. Of course you have to assume poor planning or lack of patience on his part. Dollars to donuts he already has Skyrim so will have to pay for it twice.

still cheaper than buying each DLC as it comes out.

also, there are plenty of huge titles coming out this year, and have come out before or around Skyrim's release to occupy ones time until GOTY is released. so its a matter of not getting fixated on skyrim DLC's and playing some other stuff for a while.

Yup. If Skyrim has 5 DLCs like Fallout 3, and if all of them cost 20€, them plus the base game costs 150€
But you can get the GOTY Edition for 50€ at release, so that plus the game when initially released is only 100€. And it will propably come down in price relataively quickly.
Still  But not as much ;)

If people recall, the statement was made by Beth that there would be less DLC, but with more content than in the Fallout games...i.e. 2 or 3 dlc instead of 4 or 5.

So far, they have failed to deliver, which somewhat renders the pricing of this dlc towards the lower end of credibility.

I dunno, it seems to me that the storyline, areas, etc. are bigger than your average DLC, which usually amounts to no more than a few maps/missions and a couple of new items and/or creatures, and (if there is one) a very short (<10 hours) storyline. I'm pretty sure I'd stack Dawnguard up there as far as TES add-ons go.

Woah there old chap, you are falling into ye olde trappe of mistaking ones opinion for fact.

You dont think the DLC is up to scratch? Fine. But bear in mind that just because you dont like it doesn't mean nobody else does.

Yep.

And if we're going to at least try for objectivity, let's keep in mind that Dawnguard has more gameplay than most full games offer out of the box. And it's DLC. I swear, the sense of entitlement around here sometimes...

The only Australian game i've ever heard of is Dead Island, and even that was sold at higher prices, so even Australian developer hike up the price on their own people. Also, the "brick and mortar" stores that sell games decide the markup on the software, and no doubt the Australian retailers are making a pretty penny. Also, I wouldn't say the AUD is "stronger" it's more at parity, trading about 3 or 4 cents both ways, so that's not a very good argument. Also economy size plays a lot into regional pricing, and the US is far more lucrative than Australia.

There was the Ty The Tasmanian Tiger games. Those were made by Krome. The devs were in Australia. I think they also made a Hell Boy game.
