because you'd know that id's games had settings ever since the dawn of dedicated 3d graphics accelerators (3dfx)
Ps, I love the commander

I know that the basics have been in there. Render resolution, texture resolution, top 3 main special effects, mouse sensitivity, etc ... which is what, 2% of the Cvars?
98% of all the settings were in the console.
So now it's 1% and 99%, instead of 2% and 98%. (not exactly, but merely illustrating)
Seems like a lot to do about nothing.
Especially with topics such as "no graphics tweaking on PC?!?!"
When you can change practically everything - that makes the thread subject a flat wrong.
Here's a link I just found to a steam thread about how to customize rage. It's a new thread, so not that much as of yet.

Commander keen was one of the 4 or so first games I played.
It seemed so epic at the time, but now when I look back, it's so much shorter than I remember.
I think I just svcked so bad at it that it took ages.
P.S.
To be fair, when the original 3dfx stuff came out (for quake 1), you had to drop in a modified DLL to make it work, and run a separate exe.
That's a bit more than simply choosing "3d acceleration=on" it in a menu option (or even a console variable).
