I only do that with a few games, but when I do, I feel like I can never start playing them again. :(

I've never really had this problem because I hardly have any games.

I have Shogun, Rome and Medieval Total War, Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind and Daggerfall, Civ3 and 4, KotoR 1 and 2, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dungeon Siege 2, Dragon Age Origins and 2, Age of Empires 2 and Empire at War.

Of course there are games I don't finish.
I finish all the games I want to finish. If I don't finish a game it's because it didn't keep me interested. I don't understand it when some people say a game is good and they will play it again later, but don't. Obviously the game wasn't interesting enough, or else there wouldn't be a problem finishing it. Who quits something that is fun for the sake of quitting it?

To be fair, The Witcher's first village is a drag. Endless backtracking across large but linear fields for mediocre quests...

Yes it is. I did make it to the third or fourth chapter (the lake one) but lost interest. Then that first village killed any interest of restarting it later. And now it no longer runs on my Win 7 machine

Needles to say, i haven't bought the Witcher 2 :hehe:

Really should go trough Human Revolution. Somehow it seemed so "heavy" to play that i've little interest in starting it again, though. And when i enabled all it's graphical tricks it also caused a BSOD so big i had to physically remove components to get my system to boot again  Doing the same with every Crysis just caused really slow framerates

Uh, maybe try not buying so many games? Last game I bought was Skyrim and I only recently borrowed Bioshock 2 and Halo ODST from some friends. Only reason I haven't beaten either yet is because of work and homework. I guess I only have myself to blame for procrastinating until now but whatever.

I rarely finish games cause I get distracted easily. Most new games bore me completely :| Lack on innovation and imagination is depressing. Also with the industry pressing towards a DLC/Monthly/produce for the mass market. Most games these days are not for me :(

I feel bad if someone buys me a game and I play it for 5 minutes and bored. But it happens.

-Gears of war 3.
-CoD Modern Warfare 3
-Kingdoms of Amalur
-Bulletstorm
-Dragon Age 2
-Deus Ex
-Driver (the newest one)
-Ace Combat assault horizion
-Star wars the old republic

These are some games that came out near this time that I played for 1-5hours and just got bored and dropped them

Uh, maybe try not buying so many games?

I only buy three to four a year. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has caught my eye now and I've had it in my Amazon shopping basket for a week.

I should point out that in my personal opinion, finishing a game is not strictly necessary - for me. Enjoying the game is what I want. Some games are special... most I enjoy in much the same way I might enjoy a movie... only I expect a bit more from games in terms of time. But not all games are endlessly fun. Some games entertain me thoroughly for 15 - 20 hours over the course of a week or two - like, say, Torchlight. It was just flat out fun. I put it aside (I did finish that one, as it happens.) A year later, I played through it again with a different class, had the same amount of time and equal enjoyment.
I don't have issues starting a game (aside from game borkage) there are many games I haven't finished ranging from the game getting to difficult to "I wonder how another character would be like?"itis (very common with RPGs)
so I go in a game knowing fully aware that "I may never see the end of it" so I just try to enjoy the ride while it lasts.
I wonder if people have different expectations about what games should deliver. Not all of them are going to be special and engrossing and absorbing. That does not, in my book, make it a bad game.

I think I can safely say they do, for example when I played wow (back when it was subscription-based) one thing I didn't like was the nagging feeling that I felt obligated to "play" so for me it felt like I was paying to work & that lost a lot of the entertainment value to me. that's not to say that it was bad, just not for me.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Bought it nearly full price, enjoyed what I did play but then just kept getting killed over and over again and gave up.
Mass Effect 2 - Got it for £5, so I don't feel as guilty as with Deus Ex, but just stopped playing one day and never picked it back up.
LA Noire - Another full price one, I don't know why I can't finish this game, I should love it - I like the 50's and Rockstar sandboxes - but for some reason I just find it incredibly boring. By comparison I went through Mafia II in days.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - this is another game I should love but don't - ACII is one of my favourite games ever, but I just can't get into Brotherhood at all.
Skyrim - it's gorgeous but the dullest game I've ever played. Dungeon dungeon dungeon dungeon forest dungeon dungeon dungeon.

I've finished it now, and I'm glad I did because it was awesome, but for ages I gave up on BioShock 2. It's not as good as the first but still a great game.
Wow, You've got a very similar taste in games that I do. Like almost completely identical. Except I finished most of those games. Deus Ex is sitting on my shelf and is the lone game that I haven't played yet out of your list. Mass Effect 2 was a groaner for me to beat. I just flat out didn't find it that interesting. AC:B is fun, but it just adds so much more that over complicates what ACII did very well. Skryim was fun to explore but I can't play it anymore. LA Noire was a slow paced game and I wanted to go back and get the DLC but it's just too slow. BioShock 2 sat on my shelf for a year before I beat it and then it was a ton of fun.

I buy a lot of games and they sit in queue until they're called upon. I get into phases where I buy a bunch of games and don't play any of them. Right now I'm in the phase where I go through and beat all the games that are sitting on my shelf. I can spend about 20 hours a week playing games but that is on a low homework load week and it cuts terribly into my sleep. I don't get more than 6 hours of sleep during an average night.

I was just looking at the various games I have that I've never finished or even started. I tend to get stuck in a rut playing something like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 or WoW for months/years and let these other games gather dust. I'll install them, try the tutorial and then go back to my old standbys. Some of them I get through the first 10-15 hours and then just stop (fully intending to go back to them, but never do). Do any of you guys have that problem? I'm always impressed by threads here asking what games people currently play and they read off a list of a half dozen. Here's my wall of shame:

Morrowind GOTY (I know, pathetic - made it about 15 hours and stopped).
Lord of the Rings Online - have a lifetime subscription and never made it past level 32.
Gothic 3 - Never made it out of the area immediately around the starting village
Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga - have never downloaded it after buying it. Supposed to be greatly improved over Ego Draconis (which I only played for about 20 hours)
The Witcher Enhanced Edition - I hear its great put I never got beyond the first little village
Sacred and Sacred 2 - Made it about ten levels or so with each.
Titan Quest and its expansion - I hear this is great, but only played a few hours.
Two Worlds II - played about 40 hours, but then Skyrim came out and now I'm scratching my head trying to remember the story.

I'm always looking at new PC hardware upgrades, but I could keep myself busy for a couple of years with these old games that run easily on my current system. /sigh. How the heck can I get motivated to get my money's worth out of them?
Stop buying them.

What motivates the hell out of me to play the hell out of certain games is that I'm so extremely finicky.

Ironically, I used to buy up every game I could until I worked for the game industry, which then made me extremely picky and somewhat jaded.

Lol I have quite a few I have yet barely played or didn't even start. Ever since I finished high school like 4 years ago I have stopped beating games.
-Batman Arkham Asylum
-Bioshock
-Skyrim-I tried so effing hard to get into this game.
-Most of the Total War series-didn't even start them. Was like $15 one day. Total War: Shogun and Shogun 2 not included.
-Dark Souls
-final fantasy 13- right there at the end and just really don care to even beat it. What a crap FF game. The linearity killed it so much.
-Last Remnant
-The Witcher 2
-The last two FO:NV DLC which are supposed to be the best
-Morrowind-I will beat this one day. I have put some time into it though. Like 120 hours. Just never beat it. Just got the GOTY edition for PC like 6 months ago. Will get around to it.
-probably several other games I just clean forgot about.

In the last year I have beat two games. That's it. Skyward Sword and Assassins Creed: Revelations. I have played several others just have not beaten them

I still have a lot of games I started playing and although I liked them I haven't got back to them (I fully intend to ...... one day):

Arma2 (with 6 of the add-ons)
Skyrim (I played it for about 120 hours, but have barely started the quest)
Empire: Total War
Fallout New Vegas
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (an old game but just bought it a month or so ago)
Medieval II: Total War (and the Kingdom version ... cant remember which one I liked now)
Mount & Blade (another old one, but fun), also "Warband" and "With Fire & Sword" although not too crazy about the last one
Napoleon: Total War
Saint's Row 2
Saint's Row the Third
Total War: Shogun 2
X3 Terran Conflict
Mass Effect 3

There are about 10 others including online games I just don't plan on getting back into. A bunch of games, and I keep going back to my modded Fallout 3. And even though I have the game of the year edition I've still only done the main quest in the original

Oddly enough I've been playing a free one on Facebook called "The Last Stand: Dead Zone" a lot. It's still in beta but fun despite some bugs. But now that missions are taking 2+ hours to come back from I'll be getting right back into Fallout 3. I should note it took me years to get into Morrowind ... so I proabably will get back to those games, just no telling when.

Have never finished the main quest for Oblivion...or Skyrim, even though I have about 8 characters and hundreds of hours in Skyrim. I only have one that has even started the MQ, and I'll finish it someday perhaps.
I just met Esbern with him, so I don't even know how far I am along...maybe half?
I only finished Morrowind once, and have literally thousands of hours play.

Haven't finished Fallout NV yet, but finished Fallout 3 once.
I really don't worry too much about finishing games, and I basically only play Bethesda games.

I buy much more than I can play, I know that the moment I buy, but I can't help it when I see big discounts for retail boxes I like to collect them.

Since the beginning of 2012 I've been purchasing a lot pc games (Witcher 2, Gray Matter, Shogun 2, TW2 velvet edition, BF3, Monkey Island special edition, Rift and many others) and I can't even be bothered to install them, I'm too busy in Skyrim!

I bought the THQ pack on steam last summer and I still haven't played many of the games like Red Faction, Titan Quest or Darksiders. I mainly bought it for the 3 Dawn of War games, Company of Heroes and Metro 2033.

With all the Steam sales I get new games more often than I finish them. It doesn't help that I like to replay a bunch of my favourite games too.

Now I've got most of the games that I'm interested in though (at least up to 2012), so I'm slowly catching up. I know I will play all of them eventually. Except maybe a few random indie games that came as part of a Humble Indie Bundle or whatever with more interesting games. I did give Aquaria a try though, about a year after I got the bundle it was in, and that was surprisingly good.
