Cash shops in a P2P game

Post » Fri Aug 23, 2013 12:26 am

I couldn't picture this happening at all, so you're probably right. The devs I've heard talk about the game seem to be people like Todd Howard, really down to earth people who want to do their best for this game because they loved these games before they even worked for the company.

Charity is a different subject altogether imo, and charity items are fine as long as they don't break the feel of the game. Also, that cinder kitten is awesome.

Aye, it makes me vomit. As long as they want to keep players immersed, we shouldnt be seeing that crap

You're right, they haven't said anything about their plans to do stuff like this. My point was that its not always for greed that things like this are sold. I don't agree with cash shops, but they're not all bad. Just most of them.

It's sad to see consumers bend over and basically accept something that they normally wouldn't accept just because it's from a brand name they like. I'm willing to bet there is a large percentage of interested gamers that would find out info on a pay 2 win system put in last minute in TESO and would STILL buy it, trusting that the info wasn't true, or that people were blowing it up. Fair enough, your money is your money, but do people have ANY line they draw?

Will they charge for DLC, too? Just curious. That's a long way off yet.

Seems like they'll have plenty of income to work with. Can't see myself buying something pointless, unless I can have a pet similar to Porkchop The Boar follow me around, of course.

I drew the line on TSW. I was all set to pre-order then saw the double-dipping and bounced. I was a subscriber to RIFT, and didn't object to the roll over to F2P, but when I saw what they were going to put in their shop, I bounced. I do draw the line on other games as well. Double-dipping your playerbase, imo, just says what you think of them and how little respect you have for them. And that the playerbase rolls over for it, just tends to prove them right. /shrug

Aslong as they won't put all the good looking apparel in the shops I will "tolerate" it to say the least.

Get over yourself. Most of us have been playing MMOs for 20 or more years. These are things we're used to bending over and taking. (wait what :o)

Subscription Only games combined with an item shop are a no go in my book....

The only reason to have subscriptions is to allow the playerbase to get all the stuff they need and want in the game.... You wanna add 'fun items' add them ingame and not trough an item shop... People wishing for subscription based game, actually wish a non item shop game...

I draw the line at items that actually affect gameplay, like necessary consumables and gear with stats. Vanity items and services like name changes (the only things confirmed in ESO's shop) are the full extent of what I'll accept in a cash shop for a game that expects me to pay to play. If they cross that line without dropping the sub requirement, then I'm out.

If by DLC, you mean expansions, then yes, they'll probably charge for those (though likely not at the price of a full game). For updates to the game between launch/expansions (including skill lines and quests that further story arcs), the sub gets you all of that.

Yes, it's safe to assume they'll charge for expansions. Estimated price is 10-20$, as per the usual.

Yeah this.

Semantics sure, but saying Cash Shop implies you can buy in game gold or tokens and gear and content.

For ESO its a Vanity shop because you'll just be buying like the name implies vanity stuff that has no real bearing on game play.

However, many MMO's allow a monthly amount of vanity shop currency for subscribed players.

So perhaps ESO will do that aswell?

If they don't bind the cash shop items, then it will have a significant impact on the game. I am overall alright with this system as long as they bind the items.

Usually that's only in F2P games where the sub is optional--A portion of your sub cost becomes "points" in the store. Since ESO is launching with the sub mandatory, there's really no need on their end for them to offer that incentive (not that I'd object to them giving me stuff if they want to).
