Catalyst AI Problems.

well there is a semi fix or a fix that dose work for sum like me useing a atioglxx.dll from 11.6 that seems too work as for me i use it with 11.10 and i turn off AI and all the problems go away but if i turn it on and swich a map it crashs.

That does work and makes my game not freeze when AI is on even , But the problem is it drops FPS to 15-25 fps , So not really a fix for me ... ( i note i get 45-60 FPS on newest drivers)

On the upside, I can play the game and see it exactly how it is intended, without any black squares or artifacts, using the 11.9 drivers and leaving AI enabled. I can achieve this by adding either +vt_maxppf 8 or +vt_maxppf 16 to the RAGE launch options in the Steam games list (+vt_maxppf 32 causes massive freezes that last 20+ seconds) . It is actually rather beautiful without all of those horrible black squares, distorted polygons and sickly green hue.

On the downside the game freezes for 2-3 seconds every 10-15 seconds and I can see from the Logitech Performance Monitor that at least one core of my E8400 is saturated at 100%.

I really want to play this game because it does look rather gorgeous in general and the gameplay is of the type that I have craved since finally growing weary of Bordelands after almost 800hrs of gameplay.

If we could only get a fix for the freezing and stuttering then I think we could finally get to play what could well turn out to be one of the most enjoyable games of 2011.

I live in hope.

According to Steam I have played RAGE for more than 4 hours. At least 3 hours and 30 minutes of that has been the result of starting the game and quitting within a few seconds :shakehead:

don't use AMD rage performance driver. it messes your openGL again. I mean new one. don't even install any preview driver. all screw up. just stick with 11.9.
remove all config file, tweak codes. then verify your game on Steam. closed Steam, restart it. play rage. everything will be fine. that's what I do. I had technical issues like texture random pop-in, mosaic everywhere, screen tearing. now, they were totally gone. graphic is crystal clear, crisp. now, I have subtle stuttering. but it's not big deal. gameplay is very smooth. just stick with 11.9.

if you use 11.9 you will have horrible texture rendering all over your screen.

11.10 version 2 is playable, but the mission NPC's are stuttering.

Since the new Patch did not fix the dual core problem but at least admitted it was there and said they were working with ATI on it , When do you think we will see a result? i mean ATI said they will be releasing CF drivers for rage this week , Also did the job_numthreads 0 thingy work for anyone?

Yes it works nicely, you don't even need patch for that because variable is already there.

So you can play with AI on just by adding +jobs_numThreads 0 ? Or do you still turn the AI off but using +jobs_numThreads 0 you no longer get blocky textures? also do you use anything else aside +jobs_numThreads 0?

Yes you have to keep AI on or you will get corrupted textures, considering that you use latest driver. I used +cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 as a command parameter because otherwise it did not work.

Upon disabling Catalyst AI with 11.9 drivers i noticed that there was no corrupted textures , However the FPS was 15-25.

Anywayz Did anyone find any other fix? I still cannot get past intro with AI on :(

Till now i used a 32-bit Win7 installation. I recently updated to 4GB of RAM and hence switched to 64-bit with all the latest windows updates installed. Amazingly whatever little texture popping I had in 32-bit has vanished in 64-bit. The game runs smooth now too. Maybe there is a problem when playing RAGE on 32-bit OS's....just guessing.
BTW, i am on 11.9 drivers with Catalyst AI=disabled in profiles.xml. Enabling Catalyst AI gives me 1 FPS...
