Catalyst AI Problems.

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:41 pm

If i turn on Catalyst AI the game freezes and if i turn it off the game runs smooth but i get black square textures.

Is anyone else having this problem? If so please state your video card and CPU here and if u have a fix or workaround please post it.

My specs:
ATI 4730
AMD Athlon II X2 250 @ 3.3Ghz

Yep yep, it's fairly common if you read through the forums.. I get the same thing - you can SORT of get the game to work if you downgrade your graphics driver to 11.6, but it runs at a weirdly slow speed. performance-wise, the catalyst disabled current driver "weird ass textures" thing is the fastest performing thing.
Mine's a bit weirder, as instead of just black squares, I get random buffer textures. things like the texture for teeth appearing on someone's forehead.. yeah. weird as hell.

No real fix yet, it'll be a patch or driver to fix.

Hmm , 1 Thing in common between the three of us is a 4xxx Card and a dual core processor , Anyone having this problem with a 5xxx graphics card? or better yet with a quad core or higher processor?

Yes I have the same exact issue, I get random textures loading up where they should not be (texture artifacting) no matter how I set up the rageconfig.cfg or use the rage performance beta driver or the 11.10 beta its all the same Catalyst AI on = complete slideshow you can not even access the pause menu it moves so slow. I turn it off its texture artifacting all over the place.

System Specs:
AMD Athlon x2 5200+
4 Gigs of RAM
ATI 5770
Windows 7 Pro x64

What I find odd is my friend has the same video card and he had problems I shown him the 11.10 beta and for him it works fine with no artifacting and Catalyst AI is on but he has an AMD quad core......

don't use AMD rage performance driver. it messes your openGL again. I mean new one. don't even install any preview driver. all screw up. just stick with 11.9.
remove all config file, tweak codes. then verify your game on Steam. closed Steam, restart it. play rage. everything will be fine. that's what I do. I had technical issues like texture random pop-in, mosaic everywhere, screen tearing. now, they were totally gone. graphic is crystal clear, crisp. now, I have subtle stuttering. but it's not big deal. gameplay is very smooth. just stick with 11.9.

Aye! My best performance thus far has been with the 11.9 driver.

i had 'reasonable' (relatively speaking) performance on 11.8, 11.9 dies a gruesome painful death, and the 11.10 preview drivers leave it twitching in agony.

The new drivers cause same for me
Catalyst AI on= freezing of 3 sec per 2sec playing
off= artifacting all over the place

ATI/AMD really need some quality control of their own, these half-assed drivers that they insist on continuing to release are more trouble than they are worth.
Wish i'd kept to nvidia.......

Yeah. Pretty much the same here. Also an ATI 4XXX Card and a dual core processor.

Well that was not my case 11.9 was a [censored] slideshow if that's what you could even call it. Let me guess you have a quad core processor?

I was able to fix the texture corruption with Catalyst AI disabled by setting vt_maxppf to 32. Popin is still a problem though. Not as bad as before, but still very noticeable.

Uninstalling all previous drivers and AMD/ATI software, then reverting to the 11.6 Cats allowed me to play the game without the "100% CPU 0%GPU" problem, and without needing to disable Catalyst AI. However, there are still far too many corrupted textures and black squares (although a LOT less than with any other driver) for the experience to even remotely close to being acceptable, let alone enjoyable. RAGE for the PC is still far, far, from being fit for the purpose in its current state. Bethesda and ID have an awful lot to answer for in terms of why they knowingly took people's money in return for this shambolic pre-alpha build of the game. It's not acceptable that these charlatans lay the blame at the feet of the video card vendors. That's like a car manufacturer blaming the petroleum companies when 70% of a production vehicle won't work with petrol/gas bought from the pumps.

I can't think of another consumer product that we would accept this level of service/quality with.

EDIT:

My system is E8400 @3.00GHZ, Sapphire HD4850 1GB DDR3, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Win7 32bit, 11.6 Cats (soon to be removed due to lessened performance in older, superior products, that actually worked out of the box like they should).

I am starting to think its a Dual Core problem , No one with Quad or more is having problem with AI.

I'm pretty sure that some people with quad core i7 and AMD have posted with the same problem. It is more likely that dual core is the more prevalent CPU in general.

Probably thought it was best I make a post

I am running on an i7 quad core with a 6950 gfx card

I upgraded to the latest .10 driver and it solved all the graphical issues I was having but the stuttering/freezing still persisted

That's not true. I have a Q6600 quad and the game runs almost perfectly for me now on 11.9 drivers with Catalyst AI disabled and a version of the config tweak. We'll see if it holds up, but prior to disabling Catalyst AI I was seeing major artifacting with 11.9. Under this current combination the game runs smooth, not artifcating, and so far no load crashes.
