Champion of Cyrodiil

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 9:22 am

I am currently playing through the Dark Brotherhood, and I came over a couple of journals.
I will not go into detail about who the journals belong to.

Spoiler

From the 1st volume of XXXXXX's Journal's:

27th of Rain's Hand, 4E 187
Completed the Arena
contract. I ultimately
decided to pose as a starstruck
fan, and immediately got
into the Grand Champion's
good graces. While escorting
the arrogant fool through the
Great Forest, I slashed his
throat and left the corpse for
the bears.

So is this Grand Champion our Champion of Cyrodiil?

The Grand Champion can be a title for all sorts of things. Besides, it's pretty much cannon now that the Champion of Cyrodiil becomes Sheogorath after the Shivering Isles quest.

I doubt my badass character from Oblivion would let himself be killed by an annoying garden gnome.

I found a book about the Oblivion Crysis. It just describe the prisoner encounter with the Emperor and his accomplishments, nothing about his fate if I remember it well.

The date is 187. Unless the player character was an Altmer he/she probably did not live that long. It was a different Grand Champion. That is not to say the Adoring Fan wasn't an assassin though.

Look at the date, the CoC would have been dead by then.

I'm pretty sure it's canon now that the CoC became Sheogorath, I'm not sure if that's been confirmed or not though.

Not our assassin trough. At least not if you is a human character that would die in those 146 years.

The Grand Champion is the highest competitor in the Imperial Arena, this has nothing to do with the Champion of Cyrodiil.

I was curious about the date. I'm not very familiar with the calendar in TES, you see.
Also, these journals are written by someone from the Dark Brotherhood, who apparently moved from the sanctuary in Bravil to the sanctuary in Cheydinhal. The person who wrote them is currently living in Skyrim and is still relevant. Don't know if he's Bosmer. Perhaps I should boot up the PS3 and check. He speaks like the Adoring Fan. Very ecstatic, to say the least.

And I believe the Champion of Cyrodiil is not Sheogorath.

Spoiler
Sheogorath appears in a quest. If our Champion of Cyrodiil is infact Sheogorath, he hasn't changed. Looks the same.

deadric princes can take any form they see fit, and if the CoC did become sheogorah its safe to assume his mentality became the same, so he decided to look the same (the form he chooses is so he can appear as a banker, a perfectly sane man, to give the lucky soul who sees him more of an insanity spiral when he sees how insane this "banker" really is)

Sheogorath is a Daedric prince, he can change his appearance whenever he wants.

That's how the daedra work. When you become one of them, you slowly start to change into whichever daedra you are. That's why, in his quest in Skyrim, he says "I'm a Mad God. The Mad God, actually. It's a family title. Gets passed down from me to myself every few thousand years."

I figured.
I'm no lore buff, but I understand that the Arena Champion is the highest rank of the Arena, not necessarily the Champion of Cyrodiil. I also understand that the Champion of Cyrodiil must have been dead, or old at best. Could it possibly be the Champion? If not, could the assassin be the Adoring Fan?

Actually, he said that because of the whole Jyggalag-to-Sheogorath cycle. But yeah, you're right.

You don't need to be a lore buff to spot a harmless easter egg :P

I checked the guy out. He was not a Bosmer. He was human. He wrote the journals in 4E 187, and currently lives in Skyrim. Can someone tell me how long that is? I'm not familiar with TES calendar.
