Classic Car Thread

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 6:24 pm

So I searched and there wasn't a thread open already, so I made a new one.

This is a thread to discuss anything that has to do with Classic Cars (20-45 years old), ones you want, ones you have, mechanical questions, etc.

Lately I've been wanting one of these very very badly, a http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_G4SUUJigS-c/TFQdw1K56BI/AAAAAAAADU0/7bfaEFjF5AY/s1600/ALPINE+RENAULT+A+110.jpg http://cdn6.wn.com/ph/img/a0/07/16f708395fb7ee476fb3ab391bf7-large.jpg One of the many classic cars I would love to get my hands on.

As much as I love 'Murican muscle cars, I'd have to say Europe knows plenty.
It's not a debate I really want to engage in, however:

The Dodge Charger too, of course...

Haha as much as I love American muscle cars I still would love to have that Renault.

But speaking of American Muscle, the number one spot on my car wishlist goes to the 1967 Fastback Ford Mustang. I would love to have one with a 428 Cobra Jet in it.

I agree. American muscle cars have the straight line performance, however for subtly, elegance, and track performance I have to go with European.

And that is a very nice car. They recently came out with a newer updated model of them as well, which aren't that bad surprisingly. They kept the same general shape as the originals which is a nice change of pace. Of course you probably know that because you linked to the Morgan site

Well considering what it is it can't be any earlier then an '84, though I am faily certain that it is an '87, making it one of the "Frankenstein" models. However, even if it was a '91 it would still be over 20 years old, meeting your critria. But then again it isn't really a "car", per say.

I've always liked the Morgan 3 wheelers...I'd love to have one of them bad boys. There are several here in the States, and they can be had starting at 20-30K.
Check out the 3 wheeler page on the link I posted.

Well it's still an automobile that's older than 20 years old which is the AACA standard for being labled a "Classic". So I would say that qualifies. :)

Sure thing man.

I also wouldn't mind having an old http://foto.autozone.be/fotosauto/MG/web450x300/MG-Midget_12949720.jpg to put around in. They've always seemed like a neat little car to drive around.

I'm a svcker for wood paneling and leather seats, okay? :cryvaultboy:

People stare at me when I drive it around, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

And as for being a "classic" it certainly gets the milage for it. Which is to say: not a lot.

Not a midget, but my grandpa bought a brand new 1966 MGB back in '66, and he still has it today, 46 years later, in almost perfect condition. He even has the original engine with only 80,000 miles on it (pretty much everything else has had to be fixed or replaced though). He always likes to brag that he's never met anyone else whose the original owner of a car they bought so long ago. :P

Oh man, I would love to have that car. Your grandpa needs to hang on to that one.

I like the Corvettes from 1961 to about 1967. Both of those body styles are my favorite. However the '68 'Vette is still a very nice car.

I believe the correct word for that pic is pwhoa.

I'd love to admire a '69 Dodge Charger, but would not ever dream of owning one. As Top Gear says the Charger, unlike the Mustang, had the good decency to die young. What I'd really love to drive is an '86 BMW M5 or M3.

I know a guy from our local club (not auto-related) who says he has a '68 Stingray, but I haven't seen it yet. He says he bought it new and has always taken good care of it.

Powerful engine as well.

He'd better. That is...if he does indeed have one.

Yeah, they used the Alpine A110 1600S as a rally car back in the 60's and 70's. It's an absolutely fantastic car.

Yeah, the new Mustangs are just a blemish on the old ones. They can't even begin to compare to the original Mustangs. Speaking of BMW's I found a '97 M3 for $7600, of course when I asked my dad if I could get it I got the usual "Hell no, you'll kill yourself," that I normally get when I ask for cars that I want. :P

That's a 1993 Wagoneer right? I vaguely remember having a conversation with you a while back. Unfortunately it does not count. Not yet anyway. Few more years. My Dakota doesn't count either and it's 11 years old.

I own a '69 Mustang Mach 1, with it's original 351 Windsor V8 in it. Whole things looks brand new since I cleaned it up, and runs pretty damn well. I don't drive it too often, as it's more of a hobby car than anything to me, but when I do, you can tell I'm coming from two blocks away, and it sure as hell picks up quick and nice.

The '93 was actually the Grand Charokee with wood paneling, really, and those were only for the one year. They stopped making the "true" Wagoneers in '91. And even so, mine is an '87.

And yes, we did. That's an old picture though, it no longer sits in that spot.
