Combat underwater?

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 3:45 am

Whats up with this? Anybody going for it?

Edit: all I want is a system like oblivion. Be able to swing your weapon or use magic.

I wish.. I think it's a FO3 thing that accidentally got included. I'm very certain that it wasn't meant to be that way given all the dangerous enemies underwater. Not only that, but it greatly reduces what we can add to under water areas because there's no underwater combat of any kind.

No idea but it is annoying, since there are things under there that attack us.

This NEEDS to happen.
The one creature from Scandinavian Lore I had hoped to see an Elder Scrolls style version of, was a Kraken.

We need Underwater combat, Sail-able watercraft, Undersea Dwemer ruins!

Agree fully with this. There were several places in Oblivion that were only accessible by delving very deep into the pools in caverns... I'd love to see a sprawling semi-submerged dungeon in Skyrim... :)

Most people speculate that underwater combat was removed for one reason:
Finishers. You know, those things that don't really add to the game.

It's amazing how some people will go out of their way to invent excuses for Beth.

Tell me about it, it's obvious they removed it for no reason at all because they are a-holes.

I wasn't making an excuse, I thought it sounded more like a complaint.

I can't be for certain, but a strong part of me says neither of two comments above you were directed negatively towards you and rather further agreeing with what you said.

Quoting then would have avoided some confusion. ;)
I think another problem with aquatic combat might stem from navmeshes. The engine might not be able to handle multiple 3d NSF meshes well. (imagine a fight with a dragon where everyone involved could fly. I can't imagine it running well on certain machines in the $300 price range.)

Well, in this case that wasn't practical since he was talking about "some people speculating". My reply was directed to those people he talked about:)

@ apothekari
Pretty much all of that is what I was going to add. A mod I plan on making will add an abyss in the Sea of Ghosts with massive sea monsters and an ancient Dwemer city fully submerged.

Don't know about you guys, but I was expecting to see a shark come out of nowhere every time I poked my head under the water in the northern beach. Took me a while before I got up enough nerve to see what was in the depths...and found some cool wrecks.

I think it would be fun putting in various large fish / mammals swimming around in the deep areas...even if there is no combat and they have to be neutral towards the player and other fish. However, I would "prefer" to have combat ability underwearater

Would people prefer a slower weapon speed under water for realism? Possibly an enchantment for faster underwater swinging speed?

Well, for weapons meant for outside(axe, swords) reducing the swinging speed and damage would be logical. It will be nice though if somebody does special weapons for underwater battle. This will give more incentive to be rightly equipt when going underwater.

well daggers and knives would be perfect for underwater combat. crossbows would have been great if they were included.
