Companion Thread

Post » Tue Aug 25, 2009 11:39 pm

This is intended to be a Comprehensive Companion Thread, since ...

1. There appears to be a need for one;
2. abyssmal terror http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=907657;
3. the energizer bunny (a.k.a. princess_stomper) and Jac thought it would be a good idea, too

Please .... in the following posts, put up a LINK and perhaps a SCREENSHOT to a Companion Mod that you use in your game.

Positive and constructive comments are welcome, as always.

Which Companion Mod do you most enjoy using (and why) ?

One from me:
http://www.rpgmods.com/smf/index.php?topic=365.0
The link includes a Readme on display, screenies, and download links. Kendra version 2.0

Links and screenies, please .... companion mods only.

ciao,
Salamandar

A female Redguard companion I wrote in the spirit of Kateri's Julan companion mod. Jasmine will comment on the various Blades's quests and has a story of her own that the player can follow.

Screenshots and story on Emma's site.
I like how Kateri has essentially written a parallel story you can go through while doing the Blades's quests.

Laura is an..interesting companion. Love or hate her, you won't forget her. B)

By Emma, both a gameplay quest and a potential source for multiple companions.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5047 adds many companions to the game.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5865 has a good companion. Gender varies with the player. However as most of us know this is a great (albeit buggy) mod. http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=51990

I've used Laura Craft and A Lords Men, both already listed and linked.

I've never had any real problem with 'A Lords Men'. Pretty simple and helpful to add some 'life' to your stronghold or dwelling.

Laura Craft was much more complexed. To the point that I could never get it to really work. The new animations were great, but getting Laura's story to work was just impossible for me. Seemed that just saying the wrong thing would drop her disposition and I would seldom know what I did wrong. It was just like trying to figure out a real woman, which may have been the intent. Well I've never been able to make a woman happy in RL (just ask my wife) and Laura had the same result. I'm sure it's not bugged, and I just wasn't doing something right, so if you have the time (and a female's mindset) I'd give it a try. I would be willing to give it another try later.

Just checked and Telesphoros has a good list of companion mods at http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm#23. But this is not exhaustive, so keep adding!

Here's what he's listed.

http://baratheon79.rpgmods.com/companionmods.html (listed above)
http://lovkullen.net/Emma/quests.htm (some listed above)
http://lovkullen.net/Emma/grumpy.htm
http://korana.elricm.com/Companions.htm
http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1097 (slave companion mod)
http://lovkullen.net/Emma/vorwoda.htm (one NPC and one creature)

edit: PES also has a long list of companion mods as well. Some good some not so good. I'm not even going to try to list all of these with links.

They are just companion mods so theoretically they should. But there is no way of telling, unless someone wants to go through and check every single one. Which will take time. But that certainly would be nice to have a compatibility list! hint hint

They should all work with each other* but add more than around 4 companions and it becomes a nightmare to get around, through doors and narrow passages, etc, and your framerate will start to suffer!

*although there are a couple of Emma and Grumpy's that are male/female alternate versions, and should not be run together, namely Laura Craft/Indiana James, and Beryl/Hurd.

There are also a huge number of very basic companions in http://princess.elricm.net/MournholdExpanded.htm, I made an add-on for my http://princess.elricm.net/Mournhold.htm mod that adds Grumpy's warping to the Tribunal mercenary and buyable rats.

Salamander, I think that maybe you should edit your initial post to include all of the suggestions we have given to avoid duplicates and to make it easy to reference this thread as well ^_^

I like this thread, lol. Very nice.

*although there are a couple of Emma and Grumpy's that are male/female alternate versions, and should not be run together, namely Laura Craft/Indiana James, and Beryl/Hurd.

Beryl and Hurd can be used together without problems! I always use them together, and although Hurd has the same features and approx the same dialog as Beryl, he isn't a 'clone' of her.

It's however true that laura and Indiana don't work together - they were the first companions I ever made, and at that time (summer 2002) it wasn't known that one would have to make new dialog lines when adapting a new companion.

http://lovkullen.net/Emma/quests.htm is a questmod but also include a whole range of companions, among them a teenager boy and three berserkers, and of course the main characters Wulfren and Laurenna. In an addon it also adds two fully functioning children companions. http://lovkullen.net/Emma/kids.htm includes five 'companion lite' - i.e. with a slightly simplifyed companion script as they are more supposed to be, well, a family in your house than full-fledged companions.

There are also many http://lovkullen.net/Emma/quests.htm available here - packguars, donkeys, dogs, cats... and of course wolf companion Spot without whome I refuse to start a Morrowind game.

Grumpy made two housemods that also includes companions, Asgard and Dome Home (well, I made the companion and the staff there, on his request), both available http://lovkullen.net/Emma/grumpy.htm

And, when talking of Grumpy's companions, don't forget his Cally and Gabran companions, available http://lovkullen.net/Emma/grumpy.htm

I probably forgot a whole bunch... :embarrass:

A developing, related thread .... http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=913121

When this concept is completed, it will offer an interesting altertnative to conventional companions.

Also .... any other Companion Mods which haven't been listed yet?

This was one of the best I ever used. I just found it again..Companion Janine. She anticipates threats so attacks them before she or the player gets hit. Never seen another companion mod do this......
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=4695

Great list so far just wish I could use Tribunal and Bloodmoon with SOP so I can use these companions. Im currently playing SOP for the 100 time and it still hates mods that alter anything other than graphics/armor/weapons....
