companions are useless now

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2016 2:36 pm

with automatron, you can create your ideal companions, with excelent weapons and infinite ammo and superior carry capacity.

it makes the old companions useless, only having them until you get their perks and throw them away...

no matter how much you love the npc, the robot companion is far superior.

they should allow us to at least give a good weapon and them 1 ammo so the companion can have infinite ammo, like settlers...

idk, it's just my opinion, what do you think?

and sorry bad english

Who cares since the game isn't about min/maxing stats and normal companions still do just fine?

Companions have the same uses they always had. If the things you wanted a companion for are better served by robots then your options have expanded. But I never carried Piper or Curie along because of their combat prowess or carrying capacity, so robots aren't likely to replace them any time soon.

Robots are good for firepower and carrying, but they still can't replace actual humans/mutants/synths with personalities, so. Ada is close, but still feels unfinished.

This. So much this.

I'm still playing through Xenoblade Chronicles and the majority of threads I see about it talk about maximising DPS or "ultimate builds". I don't know why anyone would care tbh, as you can play through the game just fine, however you want to play it.

This is also very similar to the reason why I hate tier lists in fighting games. It just svcks all the fun out of it because it's about attaining perfection or "being the best possible" rather than enjoying the journey and/or the experience.

They were always useless, just dead weight. With Lone Wanderer, they are completely obsolete

I generally used companions as pack mules any way so Ada is a big improvement in that area. Other than picking out a bunk buddy, for the sleep bonus, I didn't have much use for companions. They were fun at first but when you get to the point that you have heard all their dialog for the 500th time it got stale.

Companions always been useless. If they allow us to give them weapons and 1 piece of ammo for them I might start using them again.

Companions in PA are OP.

One cool thing about a Sentry bot companion armed with dual shoulder fire missile launchers and twin gatling guns is that enemies now focus on them, intstead of making a beeline through a hectic battle straight towards the player.

Companions should have unlimited ammo of the same type their default weapon is, so that upgraded legendary weapons can be given to them. This would help even them out with bots.

I agree completely. The ammo thing really kills companion efficiency.

. Danse is pretty good, but other PA using companinons easily lose PA parts to enemy explosive attacks. Also PA doesnt help increasing Companion's firepower that much.

I want to remove the brain out of the useless companions like Piper and create robobrains with it.

That would be pretty cool to do. Have the SS go all mad scientist and put all of his/her friends brains in robot bodies.

I imagine an assaultron with Pipers voice hanging around Diamond city. :lmao:

Hmm. If we could turn companions into robobrains I might finally have a use for Preston, Danse, MacCready, Strong, X6-88 and Deacon. I wonder if robot Deacon would be constantly changing his parts?

Companions that can shoot are a little counter-productive, since at best it is something of a race to see if you can snatch the XP from their kills. It would be better to create a noisy but ineffective distraction to help you get better kills.

And using them as pack mules is an annoying stop-gap, since you are still limited in what you can load onto them. To maximize carry weight, get Strong Back 3 and bump your END, AGI and AP regen. You can carry an unlimited amount of stuff, resting briefly every 40 seconds or so. If you have SB4 you can fast travel as well.

So the true use of a companion is to provide the nap time XP bonus if in a romance.

Or you can listen for that rare line of banter that you haven't heard a million times before:

"I don't have to outrun the ghouls, Blue. I just have to outrun you. "

True, low end PA kind of svcks, gets blown to bits quite quickly. But high end PA tends to hold up decently.

Yeah  that would be ironic, considering she's constantly accusing mcdonuts of being replaced by a robot.

Actually, as long as you use the Command function to tell companions to pick stuff up (as apposed to adding stuff to their inventory using the Trade function) they'll pick up an unlimited amount of whatever. It's quite handy. When I finally switched Piper out for a new companion I removed over a ton of all sorts of stuff. LITERALLY over a ton. Like 2,350 lbs worth of stuff.

I just picked up Deacon for the first time, and aside from him guilt tripping me over picking up loot off bodies, im finding that he is obe of my favorite companions.

I will probably use robots more, but some companions are really great characters and are fun to have around.

I love Cait.

She carries a sword and turns foe robots into piles of scrap in no time.

Against humans she picks them up and body slams them allowing me to finish them off.

We make a great team.

I must admit that the robots make great provisioners though.

Good to know. I'd rather load a companion up this way than make another pathetic "emergency cache" that I never get back to.

I'd miss Deacon's witty banter.
