Compass is optional!

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:27 am

First part of your poll needs a "don't care". Because I'm sure anyone answering No, will be replied to with "OMG, why would anyone say No, it's just an option, you don't have to use it.".... when the only reason they answered No is because the Yes answer didn't fit, and No was the only other choice.

(Personally, I'm not going to remove any parts of the HUD. I like the game giving me the information I need to play it, instead of staggering around lost and ignorant because it's "more real". Now, moving the HUD elements around and changing their scale, like with DaRN UI? Yeah, I'd go for that.)

-----

How disappointed would you be, if it turns out that "HUD Opacity" is a single setting, and you have to either turn it all on or all off? Rather than just getting rid of the compass?

Don't care, don't vote. It's that simple.

I wouldn't be disappointed if it's an "ALL HUD OPACITY" setting. I dislike all HUD :P

I'll probably keep the crosshair, bars and compass and just turn off those annoying "x increased to y" messages.

Wow, I never cared either way but I'm surprised that you can. I thought Todd said earlier that the compass will always be on, but now it can be turned off  They are definitely making some changes to appease the public.

A thread was just started with confirmation that finishers can't be turned off, so not quite.

People are already getting worked up about the amount of information we receive from a quest to be able to play without the compass ;)

Ninjaed by 3 minutes. But the other topic didn't have a poll, so...

It doesn't affect me unless we can change the visibility of HUD elements separately.

Personally tho, Imma probably just get a UI mod. Or make one myself. Didn't someone at BGS say the UI was flash-based using actionscript 2?

[Joke] ... I just saw that post in hlvr's thread... The mods have merged the realms topics without victory in Mortal Kombat! The Elder Gods Admins will have something to say about this! :P

This is good news. It would be nice to get a clarification on whether or not it means you can adjust the opacity on each individual item, or if it applies to the entire HUD. If it's the latter, then 'better than nothing', IMO.

I won't be taking away anything in my first play-through, but when I later on role-play I'll probably turn off everything inclusing cross-hair.

Are you sure we aren't interpreting this wrong?

I mean, we've known for a while that the health bar, magicka bar, stamina bar and compass don't appear until they're needed... So maybe he means that you can make it so they appear all of the time or only appear when they're needed. :spotted owl:

Why would anyone want to turn their health bar off?

YAY! BEST NEWS SO FAR! :celebration:

So, looks like those of us, including myself, who would rather explore without location markers, enemy markers, and quest markers, can now do so.

Looks like I WON'T have to use my rag over top of tv screen method

I don't see how you can interpret "you can play with the HUD opacity so that you don't see your compass, crosshair, or bars, if you want." As "You can make your bars stay on all the time." - You might be able to do that, but that is not what he is saying at all.

As for why would you want to turn your health off? It makes you be more tactical, and some more hardcoe role-players might not like knowing their exact health. :)

I would rather have the ability to move it around and lock it into place somewhere else rather than just on or off.

Its challenging not knowing how much health, magika or stamina you have left.

I tweeted Pete and asked if we can turn off specific HUD individually or if it's always all at the same time.
No answer yet.

I hope this is the case. I want the crosshairs and the status bars, just no compass.

Someone will have a problem with that too. If that's an option they'll want to adjust the size of the crosshair
